So, for a while now I've been using Kalphiter's Dedicated hosting service.

So far, I've been very happy with it for the most part. The server is powerful and has a good internet connection, and Kalphiter has been relatively helpful (if a tad rude) in assisting me with any problems that come up.

However, since the start me and Kalphiter were on very mediocre terms, for whatever reason. I removed him from the autoadmin list (by default, he is on it so that he can help people set up their servers) and he flipped out and told me that he had banned idiots on my server before (without my permission) and asked that I give him back admin, presumably so that he could continue to do so. I respectfully declined, and he then told me that he could 'admin himself anyways because he was hosting the server'. Now, this kind of threat on it's own is really unprofessional - I am paying him money to host me a server, and what I want to do with it should be entirely up to me. However, there really wasn't much I could do about it, and so I let it slip - after all, I did need someone to host the server (I have a wacky home network set up so I can't host, long story).

Recently, however, the problem has really come to a head. I was running some sort of skiing server which Kalphiter started to spam (projectile loop events). Now, most idiotic griefers of this nature would receive an immediate perma ban - however, as he was my server host, I realized that really wasn't feasible, and anyways, the infraction was pretty minor. So instead, I gave him a 1 day ban. Now, among the many people in my server (it routinely is in the top 3 or so in terms of player count) I wasn't really paying attention to the chat. However, someone had mentioned Kalphiter and I quickly looked back in the chat. To my dismay, after the ban had taken place, Kalphiter had quickly joined the server and the disconnected without saying a word. When I asked him about it, he denied having erased the ban, claiming that I had un-banned him. According to his log-writer, that appears to be the case (see the last line):

Of course, I didn't unban the guy, but hey, give him the benefit of doubt - perhaps there was some glitch or something (the alternate explanation would be that he added the log entry to cover his tracks).

So I was going to let that slide as well. Except that now, I noticed something strange in my ban logs.

Looking through them, a certain ID 23094 appears (http://forum.returntoblockland.com/list.php?cmd=view&id=23094) as 'mr webbi' or 'Hunter S.':

Notice that at no point is id 23094 included (thus neither I nor anyone else ever admined/de-admined him, and plus, nobody apart from me can admin/deadmin anyways on my server). Additionally, he is definitely not on my auto-admin list.

This leads me to believe that 23094 is Kalphiter. He is the only one who could possibly grant himself admin.
Kalphiter - please, explain to me who else that could be. Really the only possiblity is that you have been messing with the server that I PAY YOU FOR, behind my back. It would really be a pity to ruin such a great service by doing this kind of thing, so please give me an alternate explanation as to why people are able to somehow gain admin on my server without my knowledge.

Kalphiter used an auto-ban on my server a couple years ago. It banned ID 0-3000 before I perma-banned him. I don't like this kid at all.

Yeah, I guess maybe I should of seen it coming.

I dunno. I've never really had much against him, and tech wise, he's very capable, so I trusted him with a project like this.

He's not pointing out how bad of a hoster he is. He's pointing out that Kalphiter potentially has an alternate key and is using that to interfere with hosting.

Moving on, the best thing that can happen would be if another similarly arranged setup was created, run by someone more responsible.

Plus, competition might force Kalphiter to get his stuff together.

I could do some, but definitely not all of what he has accomplished. For example, I have no clue how the whole key uploading system works.

Well, on the bright side, I'm glad that's cleared up. It's a relief to know that you weren't abusing your power completely.

The unbanning still stands, but as I said, I think I'll let it slide - perhaps it was another glitch or something? I dunno. I guess the case is closed, unless there's something else I'm missing.
