Is there a free version out for offline use so that you can choose the blocks you want and lay down new flat pieces? or any free version?

There is a demo version that is limited to 150 bricks here: http://blockland.us/files/Blockland_1_03.exe

There is also the v0002 prototype floating around that some people still play despite the fact that it sucks.

'Tis true.  But, there IS RtB... You can download v0002 with the mod there.

I feel sorry for anyone that thinks RTB 1.045 is a suitable replacement for Retail. Lolz

Yeah, me too.

I don't see why people think that Retail sucks. It's their little prototype that sucks.

Retail Blockland
Plenty of neat bricks
Barely any lag
Better quality shadows
Better graphics
Uses a higher version of the TGE
Cool customary minigames
Better controllable vehicles (turn better and stop instantly when hitting the brakes)
Cool weapons
Cool vehicles
Cool items
Plenty of nice maps
Neat accessories
More customizable minifig looks

Thats all i can think of

Return to Blockland
Alot of bricks
Fun minigames
Plenty of paintcan colors, including the lettercans
Customizable jet lag
Uses a lower version of TGE
Cool vehicles
Cool weapons
Cool items
Some nice maps

Thats all i can think of

Hmm, Retail does have more than RTB, that why people are so jealous?

Retail Also has a better Add-on system.

Retail also has a better everything.

Plenty of neat bricks
Yet still lacking a basic inverted corner brick.

Inverted corner brick?

Someone explain this concept to me.

Perhaps it's just people in my timezone - but I still see more people playing RTB in an average afternoon then there are on Retail.

It depends on as you said, when and where.
