Milkshape smoothshades by default. If you have an edge you wanted smoothshaded manually however first select the appropriate verticies, then click unweld verticies. Next go into the groups tab with the verts still selected and toggle auto smooth, then click weld-verticies, and you should be done. (This process can also be used in reverse for making something flatshaded)
