oh hey more replies than I expected
i vaguely remember spring letting you play as a unit, but i havent touched that in like 8 years
tried that out, unfortunately it's a pain in the ass to get set up and it didn't recognize any games I put in it for some reason
running with rifles feels sorta like that, except there's no actual commander (just an ai commander that gives you general directions) and nothing in the way of resources (for a team; there are individual resources) or basebuilding
oh yeah I already have that, but good example
there was also a game called Smite i think that was literally what you wanted, but i think it's so dead you can't even find anything about it on the internet anymore; i only know it exists because i have a physical copy
wasn't that a MOBA? also I can tell you for a fact it's not dead as my friends play it quite often, unless you mean another game
There was a project to remake it on... Unreal engine I believe.

tried this out and it's pretty fun, not sure if it was exactly what I was looking for but it is fun nonetheless
