Stair railing brick: Now with x1 railing!

Author Topic: Stair railing brick: Now with x1 railing!  (Read 4891 times)

This is an oddly specific brick I needed, but I might as well release it if anyone happens to need it.
It's a pole-brick compatible handrailing for stairs that goes up exactly 1 brick every 2 bricks it goes forwards. This means the railing is under the very specific angle of 30.964 degrees or 0.540 radians. If you need a railing under the angle of 30.965 degrees you can forget off.
Here's some images:

Before

-No, you can't do this with diagonal pole bricks.

-Right after I murder Lego Lad

How have we gone so far without this.

Aw man

This was so loving needed holy stuff

I'll make one for a x1 step width stair tomorrow, and make the icon for this one less dark because it's really goddamn dark for some reason.

How does one of them on their own look

Is it the whole railing or the diagonal part

i dont build much, but this is very useful

It's the entire railing, so it's a 2x1 brick.

Needs proper collision shape, and normals on the diagonal part are slightly incorrect

This might sound stupid but how do I fix the normals?

Are you making this in blender? They should automatically be correct if the end cap is a seperate face (not connected to the tube itself)

select the shape, go into edit mode (tab) then press a to select all faces (or select the faces you need to change)

then hit w, 0 (zero)

This will flip the normals. You can also recalculate the normals (outside)

all of these normals are facing the right way they should not be flipped
it has to do with how the blb exporter handles normal lighting

I love this, and it'd be really nice to see ones for a 1x1 stair and a 1x3 stair. I don't know if anyone other than me would use it, but one for 2 and 3 stud run stairs with 2 flats rise would be perfect.
