The Gamecube used a modified combination of ATI graphics processor and a POWERPC CPU that in theory would be able to run the games graphics, but would likely require fundamental changes to the engine (Or some kind of emulation layer that would probably kill performance).
As for the controls. I've mapped the game to a 360 controller once. A gamecube controller might be a stretch, but if you're clever you could probably manage something workable.
On top of that, there was technically a network adapter for Gamecube, so you could even still have online play!
