Author Topic: Feminism for a grade.  (Read 7690 times)

most of the ppl in this thread actually surprised me by how aware they are of what feminism actually is
good on u
So they should too, everyone has a vested interest in feminism whether they're aware of it or not

I thought the fight like a girl ad was tacky, but it seems like you'll be graded on your ability to discuss the topic, not agree with it.

wait for someone to do something stupid, because it seems like you've jumped the gun here

I saw your comment earlier claiming I was a bigot before you even heard why I oppose what I oppose. I'll address everyone else's stuff later, but yours stood out to me.

You're confusing feminists and feminational socialists
I don't think so. I'm just bored of seeing a topic a lot; especially when it has nothing to do with me, a straight white middle-class American male

So maybe my announce was more about how uninterested I am in feminism

You're confusing feminists and feminational socialists
you can call a flower a bagel, but that doesn't make the flower a bagel

I'm sure you're making a bigger deal about this than they would if you would just be a student. Yeah, if you act like a bigot, constantly spouting irrelevant nonsense then yeah it'd probably be reasonable for them to assume you simply hate women. I'm interested in hearing about how this all goes down, word for word if possible.
This was it, Bubba. Wrong person. Yours was the one saying that my opinion on the subject does not matter because I am a male. I was born with the wrong genitalia, my apologies. You then went on to compare me to tribal kids of the 50's and say feminism is about equality and tolerance even though you just dismissed my opinions on the subject because I'm a man. Doesn't sound very tolerant to me.

Where in that quote did she say that? lol

Edit: Oh, I finally parsed out what you were trying to say. You're talking about this?:
itt: op talks about how sure he is that women are equal despite never having to face struggles of being a woman
Once again, she didn't say your opinion didn't matter. She's saying that you can't possibly be 100% sure that women are equal because you haven't actually been a woman.

its funny becuz like 50 years ago some kid was probably complaining about how his teacher liked racial equality and thats not fair because he hates black ppl and should be allowed to.
ur teacher is not wrong for teaching equality and tolerance, which (DID YOU KNOW???) is the actual basis of feminism?!?!?!?1/?! wow

modern feminism (third wave) isn't needed at all
it's mostly about trivial stuff and stuff that they created themselves

No one serious actually agrees with gender feminism. Most people that say they are feminists are equity feminists.

Asking you to acknowledge that your viewpoint is different is not intolerant. You are a man, ergo you don't know what kind of struggles women face better than they themselves do.

then i guess by that logic: people who self-diagnose are more right than doctors because they obviously know themselves more than doctors do

But doctors are medical experts. You're not an expert woman I think

In this case, I disagree. It does not matter, because anyone can see that women in the first world are hella equal. It's not really as much about their struggles, as women face their own unique struggles in society that just comes with being a woman, as do unique struggles that come with being a man. However, I know many, MANY, women who share the same opinion as me.

Your brown townogy is stupid. Doctors are trained to diagnose problems with peoples' bodies and minds, and they are even people themselves. Men are not comparable to doctors in this situation. Symptoms of a disease or illness are elusive to the one suffering from them. (unless they're a capable diagnostician) However to a doctor, they are not. Discrimination is the opposite. The victims of discrimination know the extent to which it exists from personal experience. Those who aren't affected do not have a full understanding of it.

It's honestly not that hard to wrap your brain around. A white person might not be aware of the extent to which racism occurs in American society because they aren't the target of it, so anything but overt and open displays of racism would pass by their head. This situation is no different; as a male you probably aren't a better authority on the extent to which loveism towards women than actual women.

Oh, you said they are hella equal! They must be, then.

Men and women should not experience struggles unique to them if it can be helped. You are dismissing womens' plight without understanding the extent to which it exists.
However, I know many, MANY, women who share the same opinion as me.
One woman does not speak for her entire gender. Even if it wasn't that way, this is anecdotal.

I like how ultimax took two paragraphs to say what I just said in two sentences

Listen to him tho he speaks truth
