the district of columbia is more populous than two US states and the seat of american government. although it enjoys many rights held by other states, it is not a state. DC is a federal district, but a growing moving has been looking to acquire statehood for some time now. a referendum is to be held on the same day as the presidential election to decide whether DC wants to become a state.

this is not a simple process, however. if DC wants to become a state, it must following an arduous path: first, the referendum must succeed, then congress must propose an amendment which must pass both houses, then at least 38 states must endorse DC for statehood.

so during the november 9th presidential election, DC also held a referendum regarding the subject of DC statehood. 79% of voters said YES to becoming the 51st state, named "New Columbia", so now the second step is in motion: for congress to introduce an amendment. will it ever happen? with a republican-dominated congress, most likely not.

How? Give an actual explanation not just your usual brand of stupidity

Well you're giving the capital, where all the votes are held, and the senators/congress lives.

You'd be voting in two more senators and at least 1 more congress member from D.C. to vote there. And since mostly people who live there are there for politics (oh and they're rich AF.) You'd certainly lead us to having rigged votes in such a small area.

Whoops, mixed D.C. up with something else. NVM.

Okay i asked you to give a educated response yet you just said everyone in DC is rich as forget?
DC is super ghetto so please for the love of god learn how to actual research something before spewing "facts". The area around DC isn't as bad but DC in general is kinda dirty and rough

Not even that but your statement has no actual corruption issues? Unless you just assume all politicians are corrupt

Plus 50 is such a nice rounded number. 51 is just weird.

i remember in history textbooks in school where they counted all of the states and include DoC there for some reason

Then we should make Puerto Rico a state and divide California

Then we should make Puerto Rico a state and divide California
another idea: let's just make DC a state, and nuke texas. then we still only have 50 states and it events out

you should get an award for this idea
