She does 1080p game. Steams pretty heavily, though mostly mid end games graphically. The extra expense was kinda just to future proof the thing a little.
The i7 isn't much better than the i5 for gaming and definitely not worth the extra $100. She's probably not going to need more than 8 gigs of RAM either.

You do NOT need the i7 for gaming, especially for 1080p. OVERKILL. nice stuff: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Megahertz_myth

As of right now, you also do not need 8 gigs for gaming, hell, you only necessarily NEED 4 gigs.

i go over 4 on almost every game i play
some examples include:
garrys mod
beamng
arma/dayz

i say 8GB is the must have for gaming

So I built my first computer around around 2-3 months ago, and so far I've had no problems with it. Then, all of the sudden, my computer will randomly restart itself or freeze completely, and the only fix is to do a hard shut-down. This only started happening maybe two days ago at most, I'm not sure what could be causing it.

I've checked temperatures of my parts, and nothing was out of place, so I don't believe it was my computer overheating. What should I do?

hi thats me
How frequently does it happen?

To get you started on something, try running memtest. http://memtest86.com/download.htm
It's a program you have to boot the computer into, grab an empty flashdrive or cd-rom for this.

It happens every 1-15 minutes, and I'll try that.

Any last minute (day) opinions before i grab this stuff?
Making it for a chick i know.

Im kinda about a few brand names. Im sure this could be cheaper.
And that stinger mobo, i assume there was a wifi version that exists like how the 1150 version had the 2. But i cant find it.

And i cant remember if the hydro case here has a back case fan that i should be replacing or not.

I dunno if a 970 is good for this tier comp.
But i like the blower style of it cuz it exhausts itself out the back. That seemed cool for a mini itx build.

i'm usually a lurker, but this build you linked can be vastly improved, so i went ahead and took time out of my day to improve this build. liquid cooling really isn't needed either, i've used fans for years and i've gotten great temps, you just need to pick good cases. the case in this build isn't all that great when it comes to airflow. i7 is also a waste of money for gaming, never get one if you want a gaming rig. i've also picked out 750 watts because PSUs aren't exactly expensive at all, and on top of that it's better at cable management, allowing you to get rid of extra unneeded cables. the 16gb of ram isn't needed at all either, 8 gb is perfect for regular gamers and what not. but when you heavily mod pc games, for example skyrim, more ram is better. i have 16gb myself, but tbh for a regular gamer you wouldn't need more then 8gb.
so tl;dr i got rid of a bunch of useless stuff and gave u a better & cheaper build. this build should handle nearly anything you throw at it with a perfect 60fps.

edit: seems like some of my points have already been made, but nonetheless this build i made is a better choice.

this is a vast improvement, but considering his build uses less than 400 watts, do you really need a gold certified 750 watt PSU? Go for a 500 watt one like this, save some money: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/ZXTVK8

you could do a 500 watt one, but buying a gold certified 750 watt psu will and should last you awhile you wouldn't ever have to upgrade. plus it's really a 20 dollar price difference either way, so that's why I just put in that one.

So far I've bought:

  • The RAM
  • The case
  • 2 fans
  • The power supply
  • The hard drive

Turns out my school can't provide me with Windows, so I need to buy it :(

Oh and I'm broke now.

well you could use linux but you'll be in the dark for awhile til more support comes along

Well, if you have the spare cash, I'd say go for it. I've been using a 1.2kw PSU for as long as I remember and whenever I added a GPU, for example, I wouldn't even care about the wattage it consumes.

"more support"?
I hope you're not talking about driver support or something 'cuz Linux is way ahead of Windows is in terms of drivers, both open source + proprietary. My week-old desktop PC is running Debian 8.1. If you mean game support, you have Steam for Linux and so far I've been able to play games not natively ported over to Linux yet using VMware + Win7 with no problems whatsoever. It's actually a hell of a sweet setup.
