I know but this is how I justify it: a lot of the time you get dogs who suffer trauma and stress which leads to more complications which means more money spent on vet visits, and not only that -- a lot of the time these dogs may have illnesses at shelter's that are either developing or the caretakers just cant recognize that the dog or cat has one. So by the time you've already paid off all the medical expenses, you'd be paying the same amount as you would for a puppy from a reputable breeder, or far more. Now I am not saying some breeders can have unhealthy dogs, because I know they do and inbred dogs are common as well.
