i'm in the market to pick up a new mouse because my current one is stuff - the little slidy feet things are sliding on the mouse, not my desk, the batteries like to inexplicably disconnect causing the mouse to fail (usually in the middle of a firefight, never outside of one), and the power switch has two modes - on, and "randomly goes off sometimes".
also, been playing some shooters and having more buttons on the mouse would be greatly useful
i've been looking at gaming mouses, and i came up with some ones that look okay, but they're really low price. good reviews, but i still want some other opinions, and maybe suggestions
i have a laundry list of things i would prefer in the mouse, sorted with priority at the top
- needs to have quiet button presses - it doesn't have to come with this, i am completely capable of taking it apart and making the buttons quiet myself, but if i do, it must not damage the long term use of the mouse. this is part of why the feet are falling off my current one - i took them off to get at the screws, but now they aren't staying. i did expect that, but if i can avoid it in a future mouse somehow, that'd be great
- 5+ buttons, but 8 or so is preferred. This is counting the 3 on every mouse (left, middle, right).
[0]i want to be able to pick it up in store to skip the shipping time. if the shipped version is going to be a dramatically better product, still list it
wireless is preferred for convenience, unless wired is leaps and bounds better. i've heard it's better, but i dunno nevermind that, i want a wired one
- optical please
[0]no loving gaudy lights - i don't mind if they're on the bottom or under my hand, but i could
not stand it if it was lighting up the scroll wheel or something. i guess i could disconnect it while performing quieting surgery, so it's not a big deal.
- muted color schemes - i don't need a ferrari, i'd prefer a spy car mouse
[0]i don't really care what the mouse looks like (you know, like those weird ones that look like transformers? i don't care if it looks like that or not)
you might note that the last 3 things could probably just be tied under "prefer utilitarian design," which is true. just wanted to drive it home that i don't want a flashy mouse.
i would prefer a mouse that doesn't look like it came from mars. don't let that stop you from suggesting them though.
i'm sort of looking for volume here, not exactly accurate suggestionsmost of these are mutable. if your suggestion misses most of these marks, but you absolutely love your mouse and would marry it if you could, feel free to suggest it
in my search i came up with
this one and
this one, and they both have good reviews, but there's two things off about each of them
the first one is apparently not programmable. what does this mean? can i not bind functions to these buttons ingame? i assume it just means you can't set the mouse buttons to emulate keyboard keys... but that's okay. i don't think i need that for compatibility, right?
the second is apparently 'small'. not sure how i feel about that, but i don't really claw grab my mouse, so i guess i prefer one that would fit my hand
both have no reviews about how quiet they are or how easy/safe it is to disassemble, and a quiet mouse is a major priority.
i'm tempted to just drop by a wal-mart and grab the first one i listed. it's literally $12, which is barely anything out of pocket, and it has some amazingly good reviews, but the 'lack of programming' is concerning me.
give me your mice suggestions
