Microsoft has just discontinued support for Windows 7, so no more free support/updates. The only updates they will continue to push out are security.

No idea why they're doing this so soon, it's a great OS.

it's still probably one of the most preferred windows operating system. it is indeed strange that they're doing this so soon.

Security updates are what matters anyway. Besides, Windows 7 is nearing the end of its life. Cant have Windows 7 for forever.

This means that they only have 1 OS that's actually out right now, that has updates. The windows 8 line.

This is the standard life cycle for a Windows release.

Microsoft will offer Mainstream Support for either a minimum of 5 years from the date of a product’s general availability, or for 2 years after the successor product (N+1) is released, whichever is longer.

Its time for everyone to get with the times and upgrade to Windows 8.

Or windows 10, which is going to be coming out soon

Gonna hold out on upgrading for another year or so. I like Win7 too much.

Once Windows 10 comes out, I'm going to laugh at all you Win7 users who are clinging to a dead operating system. It's pretty much already become the joke about preferring XP to anything newer, stop sulking in your comfort of the familiar and try something new.
