Preface: This is merely an idea I have long thought about and would love to see come to Blockland.

Society: CityRPG Revisited

I am not a big fan of any of the current servers in development with CityRPG themes so I wrote up this post. If you are interested in helping, please contact me, I am willing to make it worth your time.

Features
Here is essentially what makes the server, the server!

Jobs
Jobs have been completely redone. Paychecks have been removed from half of the jobs, instead you get money for what you do. Doing your job rewards you with different things depending on what you're doing, in most cases it will be money. A simple list of jobs is provided below.

Labor Branch
Work hard, get paid.
Judicial Branch
Jail suckers, make money. This job branch offers paychecks.
Business Branch
Sell your tools and firearms to citizens.
Medical Branch
Heal terrified citizens. This job branch offers paychecks.
Free-will
Do what you want! These jobs are freelance and give players more freedom.
Worker
A lumberjack like job, you are given axe.
Police Recruit
The first step in becoming a man of the law! You have a baton.
Shopkeeper
An honorable job where you sell firearms to civilians, pure gold!
Nurse
A medical assistant, you can heal people and get money for it.
Bounty Hunter
A legendary job thats been around for years, you jail people and kill wanted players.
Laborer
A step-up for the worker tier, you are given a pickaxe in addition to your axe.
Police Officer
The next rank in your police career. Your speed is slightly increased.
Entrepreneur
Following shopkeeper is the entrepreneur, your persuasive sales skills allow you to sell a larger variety of items.
Doctor
A follow up to the nurse, the doctor. You can perform full heals and issue pills to players.
Criminal
You scum! Your speed is increased and you can pickpocket players.
Foreman
The final tier in the labor branch. You efficiently collect resources at a double rate.
Federal Agent
The top of the judicial branch. You are given body armor. Your speed is also slightly increased.
CEO
The most important tier of the marketing branch; the CEO. You can sell all items in the inventory.
Surgeon
You are the biggest money-grabber. You can perform max heals and issue pills to players.

To get a job you must visit a specific bot that will take you down the career path you choose. For example, there will be a police bot in the police station that will allow you to become an officer. There is also a labor bot and a medical bot, the business and criminal branches do not have bots.

Experience
Experience is a simple system added that will help you level in your job branch. You gain experience for doing your job.

In summary:
  • Police officers get experience for jailing players.
  • Laborers get experience for working over long periods of time.
  • Players in the business branch will get experience for making sales.
  • Doctors will get experience for healing players and making sales.
  • Free-will does not earn experience.

Miscellaneous
There are also a number of special tweaks that are included. These are:
  • When you exceed your health, you are downed. Once downed you cannot move and can only spectate your body, you can only be helped up by a doctor. Other players can carry you to the hospital as well. If you take too much damage or wait too long, you will die.
  • You can only be arrested if you are downed.
  • Killing wanted players will lose your job as a police officer. However, if the player exceeds a certain level of demerits, they can be killed without penalty.
  • If you get killed, you will spawn at the hospital.
  • Guns do not despawn unless a member of the judicial branch chooses to destroy them.
  • Banks can be robbed if a third of the active players are in the judicial branch. Banks have bots that serve as tellers, you can use them like normal banks.
  • There is no demerit limit. This means you can get jailed for a very long time. You must do a lot of bad things to get jailed for a long time, for example if you killed 20 people you would be jailed for two hours.

Lots
Lots will function a little bit differently than how they previously did. Lots can be purchased prebuilt or you can hire a player with a building permit to build a lot for you.

The process for obtaining a lot:
  • Property will be up for sale all over the town. At the beginning, they are owned by the bank, beyond that, they are player owned. There will be empty spaces and spaces that are filled with prebuilt buildings.
  • Property that is being rented in or owned cannot be destroyed or built in. Special bricks can be placed, but that is all.
  • Why are you doing this? Quality control is one, and the other is to make hiding harder for criminals.

The process for hiring an player with a building permit is simple and goes as such:
  • A client contacts a player with a building permit, they agree to a set value for the completion of the job.
  • The builder is given trust to the client's lot, and the client's money is taken but is not yet sent to the builder.
  • Once both players are happy with the completed build, the builder will get his or her money and will lose the client's trust on the lot.
  • If the client is attempting to scam the builder, the builder can cancel the job at any time. If the builder is up to no good, the client can also cancel the job. Cancelling the job will clear the lot and refund the client and revoke any changes made after the job request.
  • However, once both parties have agreed to the completed build, there are no refunds.

Other small things:
  • You cannot edit your build unless it is undergoing an builder contract. If it is, police officers can baton and fake kill any brick they choose.
  • Events will be limited, and custom bricks will fulfill most roles. I want to keep it straight forward for players.

Training
Training works as a second job, it allows you to perform multiple tasks but you only get to choose two. They also cost a lot!

Firefighting
You're trained in putting out fires. You have the items to put out fires now.
Grapple Mastery
You have become the grapple master -- you now spawn with grapple ropes.
Item Builder
With resources you gather, you can construct your very own tools and firearms.
Narcotics
By acquiring drugs materials, you can create drugs.
Political-Influence
You're permitted to bail people from prison for a fee.
Building Permit
You can build and be hired to build on other people's property.

Before anybody begins complaining about drugs, drugs will only be sellable from player to player. They will have special features of their own, and getting caught with them will have big penalties. Being a drug kingpin should be fun and scary at the same time.

Fires
Fires can happen as a result of flamethrowers and molotovs. Players caught performing arson will be charged by a hefty amount of demerits. Fires will not permanently destroy bricks, but will force players to make fixes to their damaged property. If a property is too torched, you cannot make sales out of it.

Weapons and Tools
I want to include a custom weapons and tools. Tools all pertain to jobs and are made to help players. Weapons are for killing and disabling players.

Planned weapons:
  • Pistol
  • Submachine Gun
  • Sniper Rifle
  • Shotgun
  • Assault Rifle

Planned tools:
  • Chainsaw
  • Drill
  • Sledgehammer
  • Bat
  • Taser

Q&A
For all your questions, I will have them answered and placed here for future reference.

Q: Can I help?
A: Read the the closing message at the bottom. If you want to help build, I will reach you personally. Don't ask.

Q: Will there be premium features?
A: Maybe, just visuals. I am not a big fan of giving other players an edge because they have more money in real life.

Q: Will you finish this?
A: I don't know, hopefully.

Q: Do you need resources to build?
A: No.

Q: Will there be vehicles?
A: I do not want vehicles at this time and have no plans for them.

Q: What weapons will you be using?
A: I have nothing in mind for weapons, this is the least of my concern.

Q: Will there be hunger?
A: No.

Q: Can you come up with a better name?
A: Sure, it can be called Society. Name isn't much of a focus right now.

Closing Message
I am in great need of a programmer and potentially someone who can model. If you are interested, please contact me. This project will be very professional and I am only interested in people who act professionally.

Do not criticize this for being a CityRPG, instead provide constructive criticism in relation to what I wrote up. I have no interest in drama or stupid behavior.

These are not all the features, simply what I remember off the top of my head. Any specifics do not need to be included, I am more interested in the core idea.

Ask questions, I will answer them and include them in the original post.

General Discussion / Building Service
« on: April 14, 2017, 09:23:42 PM »
Preface: Summer is coming around, I will have a lot of free time. Also, the last thread was too old, so here is the new one.

Building Service

Intro: Hi, some of you may remember me, some of you may not, it doesn't really matter. I absolutely love Blockland and all it has brought me. My building talents have always been appreciated and I really think I could help people out with their builds or projects, making the builds they desire.

With this said, I will build for you, in return for money or anything else you think you can provide me with that I might like. If I like your project/idea enough, I will do it free of charge.

Skills: I'm proficient in various areas including:
  • Complicated terrain
  • Low-detail builds
  • Default bricks and colorsets
  • Large scale projects/builds
  • Much, much more!

History: I used to do a lot of things when I was more active and I was in two of the best clans of my time/currently.

These clans being:
  • Height
  • Cohort

I also worked on a gigantic project that was going to feature one of the most diverse maps and diverse code that offers players a very unique gameplay experience. Unfortunately the code was lost along with the models and the build itself. Motivation was also lost.

Here is the topic for those interested, because it was hell-a rad: http://forum.blockland.us/index.php?topic=219318.0

Pricing: Building takes time and creativity. Pricing will depend on what you idea you have in mind. The prices will be just and I can be flexible as long as you provide me with something.

Screenshots: Credibility is key! I will provide more images if you need to be more satisfied.

I would show more but I lost a lot of old saves.

Contact: You can contact me on the forums if you need anything. We can further contact on Steam or through e-mail if we come to an agreement.

Topic-related: Any drama will be ignored. If you have any questions feel free to post or private message me.

That is all for now, thank you if you read!

Suggestions & Requests / Gamemode challenge/request: Brickism
« on: March 18, 2014, 11:18:25 PM »
Brickism
A community of equal blockheads!

What is it?
Let's dig back to our old Soviet roots. The main idea is that you are a member of the community, or the Brick. The Brick is an equal community, everyone treats each other the same and makes the same amount of money and gets the same amount of stuff- right?

Unfortunately that's not the situation. Anarchists are trading weapons and plotting secretly, politicians are stealing money from the people and a revolution is around the corner. But what role do you play? You play one of the many on different sides.

Roles
The Brick has many roles for a big Blockhead like you to do!

Anarchists
They try to overthrow everything, they make deals with the civilians and attempt to craft weapons to overthrow the authority! They do not rely on time, but rather rely on labor generated.
Civilians
The civilians are your middle men, they don't take sides but they can if they want. They can either aid the authority or the anarchists, whichever role they choose to pursue. Everyone gets the same amount of gain, but each role differs and does something different affecting both roles.
Authority
Well there's always a boss, isn't there? These guys run everything, they have accessibility to everything but it takes time for the time get items or perform actions. It takes them an entire tick in order to receive a shipment of items.

These all come together and become dependent on each, anarchists rely on civilians for goods to craft from, civilians depend on the authority to import special goods and the authority is dependent on the anarchists to create chaos and be cleaned up.

Actions
The final question is how you tie everything together and get it working. Brickism works as a Communist gamemode. Everyone is basically equal except for the authority of course.

The authority serves as the over lord and performs actions to protect the society from the evil anarchists. Their actions include jailing any evil doers and sending them to Sibrickia, Sibrickia is an inescapable prison located a quarter of the world away. You can't escape until you serve your time or die, if you die you lose everything you had prior to going to Sibrickia. The authority also has the ability to make orders, orders come in the next tick, one tick is about five minutes so the authority is fairly stocked all the time. They go from civilian to civilian collecting any money they create, if a civilian fails to meet expectations of money, they are given a warning. If a tick passes and they are checked on once again and haven't met the needed amount, they are sent to Sibrickia until they work it off. Additionally they can cut off rations if a revolution occurs, if a revolution occurs, they ration workers must supply the people with food to stay alive. Lastly, they simply have to keep peace by wiping out any anarchists they see and confiscating any illegal items.

Next, civilians, the middle people of the Brick. When they spawn, they are given a job. They must work this job until a revolution occurs or a specified amount of ticks passes. Civilians are very basic, they work in a factory creating weapons for export, creating mechanical engines, creating rations for the people and lastly make clothes for the people. Now you're thinking, these are all useless jobs! Actually, they're not! The factory worker creates weapons, if they work hard enough and aren't caught, they can sneak weapons out of the factory. The engine worker has sufficient parts to create bombs, bombs are very important and serve as a great addition to the revolution. The ration worker makes food, but alternatively he can create molotov roostertails out of left over ingredients or supply the people with food when the authority cuts off rations to the people. Lastly the clothier can make body armor for the people and if they gather enough materials from everyone, they can make a full armor suit.

The most evil but crazy fun role of all, the anarchists. They basically run the revolutions, they perform attacks on the authority as much as possible till enough tension occurs that a revolution arises. The anarchists have only 50 ticks to create a revolution, if this does not happen, the game resets and new people are chosen. Anarchists work with civilians to gather weapons and tools, during a revolution their health doubles and they become enraged which allows them to survive longer and take more hits. If an anarchist or a man of authority dies, they die permanently and are sent to the civilian side.

I'll write more if anyone cares or is interested ... (There are probably holes somewhere in this, point them out if you want, any suggestions to add on would be nice.)

Suggestions & Requests / Efficient Terrain Generator
« on: February 26, 2014, 07:55:12 PM »
As many of you know, I recently shut down the DayB project due to lack of activity and progress. With the lack of RTB and low quality servers and the remaining work we have produced, I figured I'd give it a shot again but there's a catch -- there's no way in hell we can actually pull it off without a terrain generator, it's as simple as that.

The map is so large that create so much terrain isn't really possible without going insane (like I previously have). All I'm looking for is a terrain generator that can produce efficient and climbable hills with little to no jumping.

If you have a generator capable of doing so or are willing do so, please contact me.

Off Topic / Low Quality Video Upload
« on: December 28, 2013, 10:04:45 PM »
Hi guys!

This is off-topic but it still relates to Blockland somewhat. But can anyone explain to me why this is such low quality? I recorded it in pretty high quality but when it came down to uploading it the quality went into the stuffter.

The link is provided down below, help would be great.

General Discussion / Where is Iban?

I stumbled across a couple CityRPG's and was wondering what happened to Iban, does he still play or have a forum account?

Suggestions & Requests / Higher Brickcount
« on: August 08, 2013, 03:57:30 PM »
Ever since the new update everyone has been building lot's more, so with no terrain- we have to build it! Sylvanor and I'm sure many other people have had some issues regarding brickcount. 256k may sound like a lot, but when it comes to terrain and expansion in big builds it just doesn't cut it.

So this is a cry out to the Badspot, can we please have a raised brickcount to 500k~ in order to improve our builds? It would really be grand to see things like Seattle and other grand builds grow larger and keep people eager to build.

Let's try and keep this at the top and get as much support as possible guys!

Off Topic / Name thief/strange website (???)
« on: June 09, 2013, 10:06:20 PM »
So I ran into this weird website while looking up name, apparently the administrator of the website uses my name and the SeventhSandwich's name. This is also a very crappy "create-a-xxx" website ran by what looks like stupid people. No this isn't an angry cry out to the guy who stole my name or whatever but I find it a strange- but he did steal SeventhSandwich's name and forum profile image.

The website link is: http://postit.createaforum.com/index.php

I'm doing research at the moment, but he also has a Skype named "derroith". Apparently he also made a Minecraft account under my name, my original name is BlockPWN3D.

Any more information would be great if anybody knows, I've just never been impersonated and this is all really weird to me.

Off Topic / Removing polls
« on: March 21, 2013, 05:55:23 PM »
I've been wondering, and I realized you can't remove polls, which is kind of annoying when you don't have a poll, but recently had one.

Anybody know anything about this?

General Discussion / DayB • 1/14/14
« on: January 14, 2013, 09:27:30 PM »

Heavily inspired by a popular mod and then recreated into the wonderful game of Blockland. I'd like to introduce you to Day Blockland; short for DayB.

Features
The most important part of the entire gamemode itself.

Weapons
A completely dedicated weapon pack created specifically for this gamemode. They are high damaged and go specifically for realism. They also feature iron sights for precision and a better feel to taking shots- especially sniper rifles.

There will be about six different types of weapons. The weapon categories go pistols, shotguns, submachine guns, assault rifles, light machine guns, and sniper rifles. These go in caliber wise too, varying in small pistols rounds to large armor piercing bullets.

Hunger and Thirst
Fairly self explanatory, a player must go through every house, grocery store, hotel, hospital and barracks just to get a little bit of chow. Clearly a player won't find an ordinary can of food in a barracks, but most likely in a household or a grocery store.

Not only will the player be starving, but the player be dehydrated as well. Just like hunger, the players got to look everywhere just to get a drink. It could be water or it could be soda, but remember too- it could be the players last drink!

Blood and Death
A players excitement of brutally murdering blockheads and ravaging towns is the point where the player gets shot. From there on, it becomes a hassle if the player is not prepared. The player will bleed until death if the player does not bandage, if the players blood is low, the player will need some sort of way to regain blood.

Now, lets say a blockhead has died, he respawns back on the shore just like he started. This means you will have nothing from your old character, that is if you can manage to come back and get your stuff.

Temperature
Temperature is also a somewhat small key factor, player will get cold of traveling outside too long or swimming. The player will get very cold and eventually get very sick. To cure your sickness the player must attempt the use of antibiotics.

To obtain heat, a player could remain indoors, use a heatpack, or get wood and create a fire. A couple things to avoid are being outside often and swimming, as those two will make the player coldest the fastest.

Sight and Sound
The most important thing next to hunger and thirst; sight and sound! You'll have to be quiet and hidden in order to avoid being seen or heard by zombies, even a couple fast paces on concrete can alert a large amount of zombies.

The last thing a player would want to do is fire off his rifle in a city ...

Zombies
To make matters worse then they are, there are zombies too. These block hungry fiends will do anything just to get a little but of your plastic flesh.

Media
What does it look like?

Pictures
The beautiful cityscape of Blockland, now crawling with plastic thirsty zombies and crazy bandits:

Server
The server itself and it's main priorities.

Rules
They're simple, follow them and you'll be fine- don't and you'll be permanently banned, and no you won't be unbanned, all bans are cleared by me. You can complain or PM me if you really need to be unbanned. Don't be stupid on here either, or you'll be blacklisted then banned right after.

  • Respect and listen to admins at all times, they are always right.
  • Dont come on the topic and complain about how how you were shot by another player, but you can report bugs.
  • If you glitch or cheat or do any sort of exploiting you will be banned swiftly and we'll make sure you never come back.
  • Don't ask for admin, admins are hand picked.

Follow the rules and everyone will be happy- don't and we will have some issues as I brought up before.

Blacklist
People who are known to be foolish or ignorant will be thrown on here as well as individuals who behave inappropriately towards the server on the topic.

We don't want any questions on the topic, all questions should be asked through private message.

Currently nobody right now! We prefer clean, good people!

Admins
The top guns, the tippy top of the mountain, the admins. Admins are expected to be helpful and informational, they should never cheat or abuse- please report this right away. There should not be issues either, our admins are hand picked and moderation is not a big problem.

Admins are also not shown due to privacy and to let players know they are always being watched ...

  • 12/22/13 - Inventory done, lots of future plans! Happy birthday to me!!
  • 12/24/13 - Lots and lots of map progress done, special thanks to Dog and expect solid work for the next two upcoming weeks. Animations are on halt for anyone who was wondering.
  • 12/26/13 - Huge original post overhaul! Build work and code still in progress.
  • 12/29/13 - Progress is going great! We are getting a lot done and plan on doing a little surprise for the New Years. I don't know if some of you have been stalking me or not but I have a channel up and running ready for DayB. Phydeoux is also hooking us up with some really sweet models- keep those donations coming too!
  • 1/7/14 - Happy New Years!! Progress is unfortunately deep in the stuffter and we're pretty busy. I will try to see what we can do but it's hard to keep up.
  • 1/14/14 - Due to lack of time, content and hope we're putting this project on hold for a unspecified amount of time. The time is unknown and there may not even be a time, rather it may be canceled entirely. Locked as of now.

Miscellaneous
Things that are less related to the server go here.

Testing
Selected individuals have been chosen for testing, do not ask for testing. There are two ways, one is through personal choice and another is through an option explained later on.

These testers will be testing various things when I need them to, but there will be open testing as well for all the other players who did not make it in time.

Currently the testers are chosen individuals and certain premiums.

There is no testing date, it will be posted under this section when there is.

Off Topic / another year older

Well yeah, I'm another year older, fifteen if you're really wondering and I thought I'd share with all of you. Especially how I was going to die the day before my birthday, haha.

Well its still morning over here, and I'm getting ready for swim practice, I've received a sweet headset from my brother and an iPhone 5 from my father, still don't know what to get myself!

Share anything related if you wish!

Modification Help / Creating a default minigame, then adding players
« on: August 05, 2012, 10:13:04 PM »
Quite simple, but I have poor knowledge on Minigames and how they work.

I simply wish to know how it is to be done, and so it forces players into the minigame that it creates.

Here's what I do know.

Code: [Select]
new scriptObject(MainMinigame)
{
class = miniGameSO;

brickDamage = false;
brickRespawnTime = 1000;
colorIdx = -1;

enableBuilding = false;
enablePainting = false;
enableWand = false;
fallingDamage = true;
inviteOnly = false;

points_plantBrick = 0;
points_breakBrick = 0;
points_die = 0;
points_killPlayer = 1;
points_killSelf = 0;

playerDatablock = playerNoJet;
respawnTime = 10;
selfDamage = true;

playersUseOwnBricks = false;
useAllPlayersBricks = true;
useSpawnBricks = true;
VehicleDamage = true;
vehicleRespawnTime = 10000;
weaponDamage = true;

numMembers = 0;

...

The rest I do not know.

Help is very appreciated!
