Modification Help / Re: RTB Development

If that's the case, then how can it be the slightest bit feasible? It's impossible...

The first and most important reason is that binary file reading isn't implemented in Torquescript so we couldn't actually send those files to the RTB server in the first place.
How do servers manage to send files to clients? - Out of curiosity

Files that aren't on RTB get downloaded from the server. I don't think the impact from uploading would be as bad as I initially said it could be, but it's still not feasible for a bunch of other reasons. If you want a more detailed explanation feel free to suggest it in the RTB Development thread.
Continuing... I would like a more detailed explanation as to why this isn't possible?

Files that aren't on RTB get downloaded from the server.
So I suppose that would also cause upload lag?

1835
Exactly. I actually lose money making RTB - it's in my best interests to have the least possible number of users to lower my costs.

Residential connections have terrible upload speeds and all the available upload bandwidth should be dedicated to the players using the server otherwise it'll cause a lot of connection lag for them. It would also take about half an hour (or more) to upload all the content people have downloaded. I wouldn't say this was very feasible.

Content Downloading essentially does this anyway, as long as that server hoster gets their add-ons from RTB.
Content downloading was a hit which is why I thought of ways to make download quicker.

Also, don't players download files off the server anyways?

1836
Like what?
It'd be what I recommend for RTB, it costs some £££ but since Ephialtes obviously has a well paid job it shouldn't be a problem... It's supposed to make download quicker on a server, basically it requires a computer with 3 terabyte hard drives connected to a reasonable internet connection...

Here is the basic plan: While a server is being hosted, it'll slowly upload downloadable files to the RTB server, thus when a person connects, will download the files from the RTB server instead of from the server... This method will bring problems which I have already thought about and solved.

I doubt it will happen, but will most certainly be very popular.

Still, it would be tons of features we don't need.
Not necessarily, I've thought up of a few good ideas of my own.

Ephi, tell me, when did Kalph say that he wants to replace RTB?
No proof? then that's your overgrowing pride at work.
IT'S A SCREENSHOT SO IT MUST BE THE SAME FOR EVERYONE LOLOLOL
He did say he was going to make a better one though...

Blockland Cloud is bullcrap. You can't even connect to chat?
Kalphiter already cleared this out... Do you have the add-on?

It's a very elegant system into which I've poured a lot of my professional knowledge. I'm 19 with a management position in a development department for the UK's top company in it's industry. Forgive me if I rate my own competence above that of some 15 year old autistic kid who still goes to school.
"It is unbeatable, idiot!"?

1841
Whether or not code was stolen is pretty irrelevant for me. I'd much prefer it if people stopped discussing that.

The issue for me is that this is an add-on designed to replace RTB - when RTB doesn't need replacing. RTB is actively developed and managed, and it doesn't have any noticeable issues (or none people have reported to me). There's no reason for another RTB and I wouldn't allow one to be posted on the forums.

Please read this post by Wedge because it sums up everything very neatly.
Wedge does clear your reason for disallowing competition, it's very obscure otherwise... I apologise for getting the wrong impression from your posts.

I like how most of the people here want to go on Ephi's side since he's cool and popular and etc, whatever you believe.
Hardly anyone has evidence of if Kalph copied from RTB or not, usually, people don't care about small fractions of scripts being taken from another without authorization, but just since this is in drama and Ephi went mad and became involved, people seem to take it like a murder crime.
So, basically "OMG SINCE EPHI HATES IT I AGREE TOO HE MUST BE RIGHT"
I just hate how people seem to worship RTB like christianity, [You will only have one god.etc] It's just plain stupid to fight over a modification which is an optional download.
I completely agree with you, but we can't take BC as an example since we have no solid proof it was stolen until it is released. Sometimes I feel like Ephialtes is too proud about RTB. I feel this because while reading his comments and actions on the BC topic, I get the impression that he is trying to say "RTB is unbeatable, stop trying Kalphiter." He also mentioned in previous posts in this topic that he will disallow any competition. Of course, I might be wrong... Ephialtes did work hard on RTB and if Kalphiter did steal his code I can understand him acting that way.

All in all, RTB is a great add-on and has been there since the very early days of Blockland. Nobody would like it to be replaced anyways.

The lighting is wrong too, it looks too bright, he probably used an image editing software to change the textures of the bricks. Also if it is real, he would have no problem releasing it right now...

Can't wait.

EDIT: It looks real, how about releasing it already, why ever not?

forget there not being a modify button, I wanted to add that even if it is not allowed on the forums, he could still release it on his website?
