Does anybody even like those steam characters?

I've always hoped they would expand on them. It's a fun looking group of mascots now with fairly distinct personalities.

I don't see why everyone in the graphics community dislike jpegs, for the most part they are easier to come back and edit even if png supports more colors

No no no and no until there is no more left. Jpeg artifacts are one of the most obnoxious things ever when you are trying to edit an image.

The massive Steam logo seems out of place. Also, isn't the current "trend" to put whatever item of interest you want in one of the corners of the desktop, rather than directly in the center? Then fill the rest with negative space?

I'd recommend ditching the logo, don't waste time with fake "shadows", and don't blow up the size of the characters so large that we can see the "jaggies".

I don't think the jaggies were from resizing, but rather from using the magic wand tool for some strange reason.
