My laptop's backlight's dead!

Dangit!
I just pulled out my laptop for school, just to find that the screen turned on, but the backlight won't turn on.
It's all zappy, and when I take off a cover and unplug and re-plug in the display, it gets all zappy and trys to turn on, but fails.
At least I can still sort-of see it (and post here).

At least this gives me a good excuse to get a new laptop.

It lights up the screen so you can see it. 

They should make a monitor that instead of having a backlight; it opens a portal to the sun, but with heat shielding, of course.

My laptop has two green lines and a red line all next to each other. Accidentally dropped it.

Only other problem I have is a battery with a 10 minute lifespan.
