Blender Modelling

Hey everyone, i'm learning how to model in blender and know the basics; but i need some help with this;

How do i get this building i have extruded separate from the grass at the bottom? Like a different group?

There's got to be a faster/easier way to do it, but until someone posts how, you could just duplicate the entire object, delete the bottom part on one, and the top part on the other.

Select the building in edit mode (like in the picture), and press 'p'. Then choose 'selected' from the menu that shows up.
