How do I know when a mod will work with the latest beta version?

By either looking at the mod's topic in the minecraft forums and seeing what they say, or by just using the mod.
If it doesn't work, the game will either fail to start up properly in some way or just not be showing. And if that happens to be the case, the easiest way is to just delete the bin folder and run minecraft.exe so it will download minecraft.jar again.

But, I tried chrome, firefox, and safari. All of them had problems of their own.
