Author Topic: Weapon model problems - model not showing in game  (Read 2780 times)

When I put down my weapon that I made, only one part comes up (as far as I know, two spheres are not coming up) on it and it's all in gray.

I followed a guide step by step and I don't understand what's wrong.

Most likely it's the LOD of the mesh. (Level of detail)

Usually the number associated with the group of the mesh.
It needs to be LOD 100

I don't know if you're using Milkshape or Blender, or 3DS.. So that information would be helpful.
I'm going to assume milkshape.

The exporters in all three of those programs have an area for LOD editing.

Thanks for your help.

Unfortunately, even after your advice this is happening:

Info:
-I am using Milkshake 1.8.5
-I am following this guide http://forum.blockland.us/index.php?topic=78760.0

As far as I know, an LOD of 100 is for player models while an LOD of 0 is for weapons.

Although, I'm not sure LOD's are your issue.

I tried with both 100 and 0, and they both don't work. It's probably not with LOD.

If you could try looking at the guide and see if there are any flaws, that would be helpful.

1. That shows you how to make WEAPONS

2. The LOD is really the only thing, above reason may be the issue.

3. The guide is old and very much outdated.

4. Try this: http://forum.blockland.us/index.php?topic=130591.0
Just use the default jeep as a template for your vehicle. Just replace "jeep" with your vehicle name in notepad.

Could you upload your .ms3d for me.
In a private message if you prefer.

Make sure you have every group assigned to a material, and the LODs are in order

1. He IS making weapons.

2. LODs on weapons should be set to 0, not 100.

3. A guide to a program that hasn't changed in 4 years isn't outdated.

4. He is using MS3D, not moving from Wings3D to Milkshape.

OP can post model on the topic if he wants and we can look at it to see what needs to be fixed, or you can just PM it to Pandan.

Because all of you seem to know what you're talking about, here's the model.

Note: This is my first model, so it's not exactly a masterpiece.

Thanks for all of your continuous support, by the way. It really helps.

Sorry Pan, got bored.

You see the top <none> button?
Click that, and browse a color file. (Preferably a 16x16 file)
Then when you export it, they should come out with the dts to color it properly. Coloring it in milkshape will not work.

Edit: Also oops skype got in the way

Also set the LODs to 0, and use the Torque Exporter Plus to export.

I have no idea where you guys are getting the idea that the LODs have to be 0.

100 works fine, so does 0. Just don't do anything between. Because that defines a set distance of view-ability.

A couple things to note.

1. Make sure your groups are all different names.
2. Make sure your material names match the .png/.jpg files you have in your add-on directory.
3. Make sure you're using the torque exporter plus.

That step is not necessary.
You can simply create 16x16 .png or .jpg files and throw them in. As long as they're all solid color.
I attached the three I used to make it easier.

Should be like this.

Add-ons/...
        Weapon_laser2/...
              blue.png
              yellow.png
              orange.png
              laser.dts
              sever.cs

To everyone who helped me, thank you. It's great that all of you took time out of your day to help with my problem. Thanks guys.

Edit: Here's my finished Megaman Blaster:

I think it's pretty good for a first model!
