Compliments of TheGeek and I.

More bricks - compliments of TheGeek, Kaje and I.

I knew I could get Ephi to come out of his hole if I prodded him enough.  Just think, mere days ago this is how he talked about announcing to people that a model to brick converter was possible:

Quote
(13:54:06) Ephialtes: oh you vagina
(13:54:13) Trader: ?
(13:54:14) Ephialtes: you're making a blb exporter?
(13:54:27) Trader: i have made one

Quote
(13:55:53) Ephialtes: me and thegeek have had one for ages
(13:56:03) Trader: why haven't you made more bricks then
(13:56:09) Ephialtes: couldn't be bothered

Quote
(13:58:09) Trader: have people submit their models, and, if they're good enough and would be appropriate for conversion to bricks, they get added to a catalog
(13:58:16) Trader: and then people can browse the catalog in-game
(13:58:20) Trader: and download the bricks they want
(13:58:46) Ephialtes: have fun with that
(13:58:52) Trader: lol, you're such a downer
(13:59:06) Ephialtes: and you're a massive friend haha
(13:59:10) Ephialtes: this just tipped me over the edge, my bad
(13:59:24) Trader: this was kaje's idea, and i thought it was a good one
(13:59:29) Trader: we want to make some good bricks
(13:59:43) Ephialtes: you didn't have to go whoring your brick exporter

Seems like "whoring" my brick exporter, as it were, has spawned a slew of creativity in the community.  Some of the results are good and some aren't so good, but when people make good bricks for Blockland, we all win.  There's just no need to be a richard because you want to control the flow of information as to what's possible in Blockland.

I encourage anyone with the talent to do so to come up with ideas and models for bricks that would makes sense to have in Blockland.  Let's make some cool stuff.

right click save as. ;D

If not, use this..

Well, your model was crap, but the converter made it into a brick anyway. :cookieMonster:  Not a very good / efficient brick, but a brick that works nonetheless.

I don't see why this would be useful as a brick anyway.

Alright, Here it is.

Test that thing out.

Don't send me a .dts.  I need a format designed for importing, like .obj or something.

How does the texturing side of the converter work?  does the model need to have stud textures built in?

Just split the model into groups based on what texture those faces should use (SIDE, RAMP, etc).

It will just be a little harder testing out the proportions.

If you're using Milkshape, a 1x1 brick is 5x5x6.

That......and everything else

Well, I'll probably have Kaje separate the model into separate bricks.  We may or may not release them.

However, we have several ideas for other bricks that can be released as a pack.  No ETA on that yet.  Kaje hasn't been pumping out too many models since the converter hasn't really been solid until now.

That is not a brick, you obviously dressed Kaje in blue.

Nope, it's a brick.

Btw, the model sent to the converter that resulted in the BLB you see above is just an exported copy of the exact same model that comes with the game (accessories removed, of course).

Could i help you test it?
Ive been keeping a hold of some brick models of mine in preparation for such a event.

I suppose if you want to submit your models to me, I could run them through the converter.  I'll only convert those models that are of high enough quality.

This topic gets cooler and cooler.

Indeed.

Kaje and I have some ideas for bricks in the works.  I think I've perfected my converter, so we're going to be testing it pretty thoroughly.

it is going to completely phase out the old buggy prop system that requires that propsys add-on

This alone makes the effort completely worth it.

Some people were curious about how well the minifig brick worked with the physics system.

Answer: Very well. :cookieMonster:

I'm actually going to be Gman, but this is a good suggestion for next year.

Next year is too late, and you'll make a terrible G-Man.
