Bump for new ASCII Animator: Layers Tutorial!

Good tutorial dude, thx for that. :)

fyi - the "fg" and "bg" sliders affect the alpha transparency of the foreground and background parts of the layer. however, this doesn't work like alpha transparency in other programs, like gimp -- for example, if you have an '|' on a layer, and a '-' on a layer above with fg set to half (127), you won't see a '+', but rather you'll see a '-' that has half the colour of itself and half the colour of the underlying '|'. confusing enough? (if you want real transparency, use gimp! ;) )

thx, i'll take a look when i get the chance :)

Some silly questions ...

1. is the file animtest.apf in your ascii-paint-bpio folder?
2. if so, can you load it by specifying the absolute path, e.g., "c:\somewhere\ascii-paint-bpio\animtest.apf"
3. is the size of the file 11,344 bytes ?
4. finally, and most importantly, can you make a new image, save it as "test.apf", restart ascii-paint, then load "test.apf" successfully?

Thanks for the help in sorting this out.

I don't think so.

What do you mean?

A command prompt should appear behind the main window. If not, run it from the command line and see if it prints anything when you try to load/save .apf. Also, are you using the latest version (0.4.0)?

It won't even let me save it as a .apf :(

Oh noes. Does the console print anything? Can you load .apf's?

I can't open animtest.apf :(

Hmm, do you get any messages in the console or anything? Also what os/machine are you running?

Can you save a new image in .apf form, and then re-open it successfully?

Sure, thanks!

Cheers!

Hi! When I first read your name I thought it sounded familiar. Thanks for producing such a nice piece of software. Very high quality stuff can be expected from those who use this program.

Go to the website mentioned in eigenbom's post and click downloads. Ascii paint 0.33 is the one you want to download if you want the latest version.

Hi, thanks, and no worries! I actually look forward to finishing off the intended features so I can get back to making my game! :)

Also, note that v0.3.3 uses a new file format (.apf) that hasn't really been tested well, so use with caution. Although with 55+ downloads I suppose its working fine. :)

I signed up to this forum just to say that the stuff you guys are doing with ascii-animator is really cool, and I'm glad you are using it!

Please feel free to report any issues/bugs using the issues tab at the ascii-paint repository: https://bitbucket.org/bpio/ascii-paint/

Also Conan -- good work with the tutorials! Do you mind if put them on the ascii-paint wiki?
