Off Topic / programs or apps to help with college work planning
« on: January 15, 2018, 01:45:44 AM »
i am horrible at remembering due dates or other stuff, I need something to help be able to plan it out instead of all my assignments being scattered in the wind through the syllabuses (which dont have every assignment on them, wtf!) due date "pages" (missing a ton of smaller due dates) and other stuff. I tried the HW app for iphone and it kinda sucks, do any of yall use anything?

Off Topic / cilantro is horrible
« on: January 14, 2018, 02:15:25 AM »
i cant enjoy store bought guac because that stuff has cilantro. i cant enjoy chipotle cause the rice has cilantro. everything good in this world has cilantro in it and that turns it into satan's back door, and i don't eat ass.

"cilantro essential oils" cilantro essentially ruined food. Glory to mexican places that don't put cilantro in their guacamole. "everything on your tacos sir?" forget no bitch take that green ass-herb off my stuff i pay to taste a taco not a damn soap dispenser

Games / !NEW! Super Smash Bros. Megathread - bayonetta and cloud kappa
« on: January 06, 2018, 12:07:20 AM »

Discord

Welcome to the discussion hub for all games in the Super Smash Bros series

What is Smash Bros?
The Smash series consists of 4 games, a mod, and a fan game. All of them platform fighters with the goal being to knock all opponents off of the map. Differences emerge between games as some core mechanics are sometimes heavily tweaked or outright removed between iterations.

What are the games?

Super Smash Bros. (64)
The first and thus oldest game in the series had its debut on the Nintendo 64 and is much different than its sequels. Movement is slower, most or all characters have real 0-death combos, and shields are ineffective. The game has a small cult following and is still emulated and played online today.

The second game in the series and also the best selling game on the Gamecube for good reason. Melee ramped everything 64 did way up. Accidentally attracted a large following of competitive players because of its fast gameplay and technical depth. Has the biggest competitive scene of all the Smash games by far and can be played online with emulation.

Released on the Wii. What can be considered the developers answer to his distaste for the state of competitive Melee. Brawl was slower and floatier than Melee, combos were harder to pull off, and it was generally designed to be more casual friendly. It is still played competitively but matches focus much more on zoning and pokes than previously. Had online once but it was bad and went poof with the Wii's online services. Can still be played online through emulation (again). Most likely contender for smallest competitive user base. Strangely easy to modify for a console game which led to....

By far the most popular Brawl mod and the Melee community's answer to Brawl. Changes Brawl to play significantly more like Melee, including heavily rebalancing most cast members, readding wavedashing and other Melee techs, and even adding entirely new stages and characters. Large competitive scene but stifled because of Nintendo's distaste for mods. Can be played online from your Wii (they somehow kept up their online thing) or through emulation. Development halted due to potentially dubious and mostly unknown means but the game is still greatly polished and widely played.

The most recent game and the first to feature decent online play, Sm4sh removed most of the Brawl jank while keeping most of Brawl's mechanics. Comes on two platforms with stage choices being the only major difference. Continually updated with patches and DLC characters and sporting a sizable competitive scene and endless people to beat up online makes it probably the easiest Smash game to jump into right now.

Notable Smash clone on steam that is actually pretty good and should get more publicity so its here. It tries to raise the aggression to new heights with many of Melee's techs but with easier inputs and a lack of shielding. Currently in early access but it is more than playable with online functionalities and a small but varied roster. Good to check out if you can't emulate anything listed or afford a Wii U or want something new. Obviously bring a Gamecube controller and adapter.

Is there a BL competitive scene?
Sometimes someone in the thread will host a tournament for a game (usually Sm4sh) that is coordinated in the BL Smash Bros steam group. Join it to be informed if something like that pops up.
http://steamcommunity.com/groups/blsmash
All BL tournament announcents will be in the thread title and links to them will be on the top of the op.

How to host/join tourney?
When you see a tourney announcement in the title just check the top of the page and click the challonge.com link and register an account there to sign up. Join the BL smash steam group chat around an hour to 30 minutes beforehand so the tourney organizer can take attendance and set up easier. You must be able to join the steam chat or pm the tourney organizer at least after every match to communicate wins and losses for tournaments where participants cannot fill in their own matches. Try to play until you are out of the tourney or win if you can.

To host, make an account at challonge.com and click start a tournament. Either rip the rules from a previous tournament or make your own. Specify the console and date and try to give a few days notice and set it for a weekend afternoon for the best output. Then, contact me so I can put the tournament in the OP. When it gets close to starting harass all the competitors on steam until they confirm they will join or are dropping. Once it begins the tournament runs itself except for the occasional rule breakers and gray areas.

You can grab the sort of adapted to online BL rules if you want below

Anything else?
Actually yes

Games / what the forget happened to starbound
« on: November 16, 2017, 08:24:24 PM »
while the first version of the game released it was in a mechanically incomplete state but still was coherent in progression, what you have to do, etc. Every point was connected and the game flowed from one part to the other, albeit not beautifully but there was progression and you knew what to do.

1.0 Starbound is basically if someone took a loving knife to the game and surgeons had to stick it back together trying to guess where certain pieces go. You start the game with a cutscene, you land on one beautiful world, and it doesnt tell you anything else. Get Core Fragments. Where the forget are core fragments? Oh, they're in the core. Let me just dig to this core (almost the same as digging to hell in terraria, as the first thing you do) and get these random stuffs so I can actually go between planets, something the whole gimmick of the game is centered around, but no - I'm stuck in two hours of the first planet where you dig, die, dig, die, and the enemies aren't even particularly dangerous. Instead of swinging your sword in an arc like a reasonable 2D game (cough cough terraria) or at least having a hitbox that can reasonably cover your person - you get a pinprick of hitbox on your giant sword, cautiously timed so the enemy can run between your slashes (and I'm pretty sure they take near 0 knockback) and the entire point of combat devolves into click fast enough to not die. god damn. The UI is horrible to work around wit h the stuff hotbar (why did they have to change it from the simple minecraft/terraria style) and multiple building tabs where you cant find stuff (god why couldnt they just make one big inventory)

end of rant

the game wasnt the best but it is stuff ass richards now

feel free to agree or disagree let me hear what you gotta say boys

Off Topic / Excel merge entries but sum them together
« on: November 05, 2017, 12:18:48 AM »
Hello tech support blockland forums I am having a problem with Excel

I am categorizing all my pokerman cards and recording them except I dont want these gay ass duplicates when i mass enter them in, case in point:

I have 2 Jangmo-o's that are completely the same, I want them to automatically go into the first entry (line 23) when entered and change it so the 1 is a two, obviously. Is there any way I can feasibly do this?

22

phenomenon in question. if you havent changed height then you wont be able to walk up it,  but if you're already "walking up stairs" you can? Doesn't work on anything over 5 studs though, very confusing.

Any explanation?

« on: October 26, 2017, 01:39:32 AM »
blockland modding documentation is so spotty that i cant reliably find anything on it.

Is there a function somewhere that'll spawn blocks in a certain location or something?

creating a dnd universe based on semi-futuristic germany/europe in which there's giant mechs and magic makes a comeback as an actually useful fighting method, i have thought of these names

  • credits (generic scifi currency)
  • marks (sweet german nationalism)
  • dollars (sweet american nationalism)
  • euros (dirty european nationalism)
  • gold (sweet medieval influence)

or other one you suggest it
