« on: February 09, 2012, 01:11:09 PM »
People have called me:
-Pensive (Always appearing to be in deep thought)
-Insane
-Flippant (Humorously and frivolously disrespectful)
-Sarcastic
-Classy
-Interesting (Probably not in a good way)
-Professional
-Eccentric
-Spirited
-Sweet
-Lazy
-Ill-Tempered

This is all I can think of off the top of my head...
What about you guys/girls? What words have people used to describe you?

In my forum statistics, it shows a blue line next to Community Projects in both Posts and Activity.

Tell me I'm not the only one seeing that. And then tell me what it means.

Off Topic / Music Megathread - V5! Back and more unoriginal than ever!

I'm feeling particularly unoriginal today, so I shall steal Neo Rickfire's wonderful OP.

What is music?
Music is an art form whose medium is sound and silence. Common elements of music are pitch (which governs melody and harmony), rhythm (and its associated concepts tempo, meter, and articulation), dynamics, and the sonic qualities of timbre and texture.
Prehistoric eras
Prehistoric music can only be theorized based on findings from paleolithic archaeology sites. Flutes are often discovered, carved from bones in which lateral holes have been pierced; these are thought to have been blown at one end like the Japanese shakuhachi. The Divje Babe flute, carved from a cave bear femur, is thought to be at least 40,000 years old. Instruments, such as the seven-holed flute and various types of stringed instruments have been recovered from the Indus Valley Civilization archaeological sites.India has one of the oldest musical traditions in the world—references to Indian classical music (marga) can be found in the ancient scriptures of the Hindu tradition, the Vedas. The earliest and largest collection of prehistoric musical instruments was found in China and dates back to between 7000 and 6600 BC. The Hurrian song, found on clay tablets that date back to the approximately 1400 BC, is the oldest surviving notated work of music.
Genres
Hip-hop

Hip hop music is an American musical genre that developed as part of hip hop culture, which is defined by four key stylistic elements: MCing/rapping, DJing/scratching, breaking/dancing and graffiti writing. Other elements include sampling (or synthesis), and beatboxing. The term rap music is often used synonymously with the term hip hop music, but rap vocals are not required for music to be considered "hip hop".
Electronica
Electronica includes a wide range of contemporary electronic music designed for a wide range of uses, including foreground listening, some forms of dancing, and background music for other activities; however, unlike electronic dance music, it is not specifically made for dancing. The term was first used in the United States in the early 1990s with regards to post-rave global-influenced electronic dance music.  Genres such as techno, drum and bass, downtempo, and ambient are among those encompassed by the umbrella term, entering the American mainstream from "alternative" or "underground" venues during the late 1990s. Prior to the adoption of electronica for this purpose, terms such as electronic listening music, and intelligent dance music (IDM) were used.
Rock
Rock music is a genre of popular music that developed during and after the 1960s, particularly in the United Kingdom and the United States. It has its roots in 1940s and 1950s rock and roll, itself heavily influenced by rhythm and blues and country music. Rock music also drew strongly on a number of other genres such as blues and folk, and incorporated influences from jazz, classical and other musical sources.
Pop
Pop music (a term that originally derives from an abbreviation of "popular") is usually understood to be commercially recorded music, often oriented towards a youth market, usually consisting of relatively short, simple songs utilizing technological innovations to produce new variations on existing themes. Pop music has absorbed influences from most other forms of popular music, but as a genre is particularly associated with the rock and roll and later rock style.
Jazz
Jazz is a musical style that originated at the beginning of the 20th century in African American communities in the Southern United States. It was born out of a confluence of African and European music traditions. From its early development until the present, jazz has incorporated music from 19th and 20th century American popular music. Its West African pedigree is evident in its use of blue notes, improvisation, polyrhythms, syncopation, and the swung note.
Heavy Metal
Heavy metal (often referred to simply as metal) is a genre of rock music that developed in the late 1960s and early 1970s, largely in the Midlands of the United Kingdom and the United States. With roots in blues rock and psychedelic rock, the bands that created heavy metal developed a thick, massive sound, characterized by highly amplified distortion, extended guitar solos, emphatic beats, and overall loudness. Heavy metal lyrics and performance styles are generally associated with masculinity and machismo.
Instrumental
An instrumental is a musical composition or recording without lyrics or singing, although it might include some kind of non-articulate vocal input; the music is primarily or exclusively produced by musical instruments.
Alt.Rock
Alternative rock (also called alternative music, alt rock or simply alternative) is a genre of rock music that emerged in the 1980s and became popular in the 1990s. Alternative rock consists of various subgenres that have emerged from the independent music scene since the 1980s, such as grunge, Britpop, gothic rock, indie pop, and indie rock. These genres are unified by their collective debt to the style or ethos of punk rock, which laid the groundwork for alternative music in the 1970s. At times, alternative rock has been used as a catch-all phrase for rock music from underground artists and all music descended from punk rock (including punk itself, New Wave, and post-punk).
Classical
Classical music is the art music produced in, or rooted in, the traditions of Western liturgical and secular music, encompassing a broad period from roughly the 11th century to present times. The central norms of this tradition became codified between 1550 and 1900, which is known as the common practice period.
Punk
Punk rock is a rock music genre that developed between 1974 and 1976 in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia. Rooted in garage rock and other forms of what is now known as protopunk music, punk rock bands eschewed perceived excesses of mainstream 1970s rock. Punk bands created fast, hard-edged music, typically with short songs, stripped-down instrumentation, and often political, anti-establishment lyrics. Punk embraces a DIY ethic; many bands self-produced recordings and distributed them through informal channels.
Drum and Bass
Drum and bass (also written as drum 'n' bass and commonly abbreviated to D&B or DnB) is a type of electronic dance music which emerged in the mid 1990s. The genre is characterized by fast breakbeats (typically between 160–180 bpm, occasional variation is noted in older compositions), with heavy bass and sub-bass lines. Drum and bass began as an offshoot of the United Kingdom rave scene of the very early 1990s. Over the first decade of its existence, the incorporation of elements from various musical genres led to many permutations in its overall style.
Blues
Blues is the name given to both a musical form and a music genre that originated in African-American communities of primarily the "Deep South" of the United States at the end of the 19th century from spirituals, work songs, field hollers, shouts and chants, and rhymed simple narrative ballads. The blues form, ubiquitous in jazz, rhythm and blues, and rock and roll is characterized by specific chord progressions, of which the twelve-bar blues chord progression is the most common. The blue notes that, for expressive purposes are sung or played flattened or gradually bent (minor 3rd to major 3rd) in relation to the pitch of the major scale, are also an important part of the sound.
Dubstep
Dubstep is a genre of electronic dance music that originated in south London, England. Its overall sound has been described as "tightly coiled productions with overwhelming bass lines and reverberant drum patterns, clipped samples, and occasional vocals".

Games / Gang Garrison 2 - "Constructing an Autogun!"
« on: January 15, 2012, 02:38:08 PM »

http://ganggarrison.com/

It's an 8-bit remake of TF2, as the title says. It has no hats or extra weaponry, but still, it's a nifty little game. Not a lot of people play.

I am currently in a server named after me if you want to play.

Note: Do not be all stuffty about the actual TF2 being "better". That's not the point. The point is an interesting remake.

They make us laugh, they make us cry, they make us rip our hair out in frustration. Discuss your furry, feathery, or scaly friends.

My doge, Reagan, is a 6-year old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. I really love him, but I can tell he's getting older... he used to handily outspeed me and love to run, now I can only get him to run once in a while and when he does I usually run far faster than he does. He tried to jump onto my bed a few days ago, and he fell short, tried to claw his way up for a split-second, and then fell. I lifted him onto the bed and he took a nap.

On the other hand, with his age comes a lot of affection. He often squeezes next to me on the bed, whereas when he was younger, he would have much rather slept under the bed or in his crate.

He has always been psychotic in that he takes my clothes and shoes, hides them under the bed, and tries to maim me if I attempt to retrieve them.

But enough about my doge.

Discuss your animals.

Off Topic / Why does it seem like younger siblings are the favorites?
« on: January 09, 2012, 11:48:13 AM »
Most recent example:

>Riding in minivan up to Atlanta
>Listening to Contemporary Christian (not my favorite, but some songs I really love)
>Song I love comes on
>Ask to turn sound up
>Mom says, "I'm turning on a movie for George and Charlie (my brothers)"
>I say that they have Nintendo DSes with them
>George says he'd like a movie, but he's fine with game
>Think I get my music now
>As if the screen in the back can turn on so I can see song titles
>Mom says she's turning on a movie for siblings still
>Say, "But I just asked for music."
>Mom ignores

wtf, why do younger siblings get favoritism

Off Topic / Can someone make a gif with these images in rotation?
« on: January 03, 2012, 03:54:49 PM »
I don't know if this is even possible, but I wanted these images in rotation, each lasting for seven seconds, and then the next image coming.

Thank you much in advance, once again if this is even possible.

All of these are real contradictory, but these are all of the zillions of results I've gotten.
Again, thank you.

EDIT: This is for my signature, so you need to be able to read it

His posts

The scene of the (latest) crime

After HDCamcorder pre-emptive drama from me, I decided I would be very selective when drama-ing people.

This guy warrants my attention.

He has a "known idiots" list below a sentence self-proclaiming his contribution of, quote, "Absolutely nothing since '09!"

Here's an interesting bit of dialogue.

I thought I would put polls for all videogames here
Occasionally (example, the first poll) I will do a poll myself

The family's been at my house.

While I love them, I like the relaxed-ness of them being gone as well.

I'm too lazy to get myself back up to speed, what's been going on?
