General Discussion / How is blockland optimized?
« on: October 24, 2015, 01:26:49 PM »
How is blockland able to handle 60,000+ bricks in a scene, and do shaders on them, and still get 60FPS. How are FxDTS bricks optimized? I know that they can't move, which helps, but how does that help? Is there anything else special about them? Is there something special about the old Torque that helps with this? What's an Oct Tree? How does that help?

Finally, why are StaticShapes so inefficient for bricks compared to FxDTS bricks?

Edit: Thanks for answering all my questions.

I have recently started dualbooting Linux Mint. It's absolutely incredible, would recommend, but that's not the point. What I'm here to say is how close blockland is to native Linux support, why it should be added, and how well it currently works on wine

Blockland currently works on Windows and Mac. The thing that's important for Linux support is that it already works on Mac, which is a system based off of Darwin which is based off of BSD which Unix-Like. Linux is Unix-like as well, meaning their systems work quite similarly. For example, the terminal program nano will work both on Mac and Linux, and almost any other Unix-based OS. This, in short, means that Blockland is pretty close to native Linux support.
Why should Native Linux support be added? You've mentioned it works well in wine! Well, first of all, steam. Steam does not even allow the installation of programs where the developer has  not specified that it works on the OS you are running. This means anyone who's bought the game on Steam cannot download Blockland off of Steam. Secondly is that it detours a Linux user from buying the game off the Blockland website. There's only a chance that any old game you find will even work in Wine, and if it does work, it's very likely that it will be glitchy or some features won't work. There's no guarantee the game will be enjoyable on their system, and they're probably not going to want to throw money at it until it gets native support. Lastly, with SteamOS, native Linux support would mean the ability for people to play Blockland on Steam Machines, which have the potential to be huge.

Now, I want to show some pictures of Blockland running in wine. All I did was head to https://www.winehq.org/download/ubuntu and press "click this link to install the wine1.6 package.". I know it says Ubuntu, but it worked for me on Mint as well, and I'd imagine it'd work on any distro with apt-get. Before I talk any sooner, here's some screenshots of blockland running through wine, in Linux Mint 17.2:

VV Fullscreen mode, Max Shaders VV

VV Windowed mode. Max Shaders VV

As you can see, it works with fullscreen mode, shaders, and everything. I was expected it to barely work 1/2 the time in windowed mode and have no shaders, but this blew me away. Would it really be that hard to implement native support?

(Apologies for the page stretch)

Suggestions & Requests / Bullet holes
« on: July 11, 2015, 12:22:30 AM »
I was fooling around with the blood decals from a mod--if you've played murder mystery you know what I'm talking about--and it got me thinking: In the same way Murder Mystery is able to make splotches of blood on walls, couldn't you use that to make bullet holes on walls that have been shot? I'm not quite sure the mod that Murder Mystery uses to do so, but if anyone knows what I'm talking about, tell me if it's possible. Or better, someone make the actual mod.

Ah, a beutiful exterior. Notice the rainbow FX, it shows how much time was put into this build.
The interior is cozy, featuring a kitchen, living room, and computer desk.

Suggestions & Requests / Weeping angel model
« on: June 12, 2015, 09:06:17 PM »
I've been wanting to make a server where you'd run from weeping angels and would need to get the TARDIS key, and then get to the TARDIS.
I could script them, but could someone make the model? I'm not really able to model.

If you don't know what weeping angels are, then: http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/Weeping_Angel

A lot of people are posting help topics without providing console.log's. We can't help this people because there's rarely a time where we instantly know what is going on. Logs will, in most cases, lead to a direct answer--or at least give some clues.
What I suggest, so that people get help faster and time is saved, is that a guide to posting help topics should mention how to post logs, and when to post them.

Drama / Unfair ban on Aoki's CRP
« on: December 07, 2014, 08:27:06 PM »
I was just banned a few minutes ago on aoki's CRP for using RapidFire, which the rules say NOTHING about.
It was outpact who banned me.
I should also mention EVERYONE else was using them, and he picked specifically on me.

Suggestions & Requests / Ye Olde duplicator
« on: December 06, 2014, 03:11:49 PM »
Does anyone have a link to the old duplicator, unmodified? I'm talking about Ephi's duplicator.
The new duplicator way too many issues for some uses, it's less of a replacement and more of an alternative.

Modification Help / [Question] How does the brick limit work?
« on: December 01, 2014, 07:42:40 PM »
It is somewhat common knowledge that the blockland brick system is limited to 256,000 bricks because of the networking. What if I wanted to exceed that limit, but full-render distances apart--so I'd have an island consisting of 256,000 bricks, island A, and then 2x the full render distance away is another 256,000 brick island, island B. Now say I started on island A and took a teledoor to island B. What would happen? Would island B render or just be invisible? If it doesn't render, can I force the client into unrendering island A? Again, these are 2x the full render apart, you cannot see island A while standing on island B and vice versa.

Suggestions & Requests / A working ModTer terrain generator
« on: November 30, 2014, 02:57:57 PM »
Since terrain and interiors are gone, and have been for a very long time, we need a ModTer terrain generator. I know GFS ghost has one, but to be honest, it's useless considering small terrain generation is about ~300,000 bricks(or you can have floating terrain, which is fine if you never misplace a brick or want to delete something), and the limit for bricks is 256,000. Not everyone wants to sit down and spend hours building terrain for a build that takes 2. So we need an optimized terrain generator, something that will use the least amount of bricks.

Gallery / The Most Realistic Blockland Family RP Simulator Ever!
« on: November 29, 2014, 04:51:35 PM »
This is the most realistic simulator for blockland servers EVER. It really doesn't get any more realistic than this.
Pretty pictures:
Wonderful overview:

This explains a lot:

A slightly challenging treasure hunt. Don't give up!:

What a high-quality disco build. Very detailed.

How nice.

Sorry for the low quality, the picture uploading service I normally use is down.

Rate 0/1 natural numbers only.

I need to find:
When a player connects to a server
When a save finishes loading
&
If it's possible to stay connected to a server and host your own without opening 2 blocklands. Stay connected as in not leave--basically, what do I send to the server and look for to just stand there? Also, how would I still get chat messages from the given server?

If you've seen what I've been posting lately, you probably already know what this is for, but anyway:
Can I make a GUI that has no window at the top? If so, how?

1. Can I make a GUI that could show another area-- like, a GUI that would show you the view of, let's say, a brick, but would still be in a GUI--like a window. Kinda like Picture In Picture settings some TVs have that let you watch 2 channels at once. If so, how?
2. Can I control the position of a GUI & size through a script? If so, how?
3. Finally, can I make a GUI that's not necessarily a box, but let's say... any closed shape I want, for example, a right triangle. If so, how? / Can I make parts of the GUI completely transparent? If the other one is impossible, how do I do this one?
*cough*seemless bigger on the inside*cough*...also, most ambitious first addon ever, right?
