Off Topic / Adrenaline
« on: August 15, 2012, 03:28:02 AM »
It's honestly the best thing ever. Evolution did well when it invented this stuff.
It's the most extreme painkiller capable of nullifying any physical pain, and the effects under an adrenaline rush are just awesome. It's like there's no more limit to physical capacity, and it's loving amazing in a fight or sparring session. It's like you think and then your body does and you don't feel anything and you don't feel strained.
The side effects thereafter are kind of stuff though. It's like the day after a hard workout, except compressed into 30 minutes of dead.

Off Topic / Networking PC/PS3
« on: April 30, 2012, 12:29:43 PM »
I want to know if this is even possible, and if it is how to do it.
Is there any way to setup my PS3 as a sort of server node. I don't really have any use for it anymore because I don't game on it anymore, so I would like to use it linked to my actual PC using some server node/terminal trickery.
Also this is assuming I can get linux on it, even if I can't on this model, I have another PS3 that can install linux after I get a new hard drive for it.

Off Topic / Multi-Display problem
« on: April 29, 2012, 10:52:06 PM »
Alright so I just setup a second monitor, and I'm having trouble with the arrangement.
Basically I want my right side monitor to be the main display, problem is moving my mouse off of the right side of the right monitor moves the cursor to the left monitor. It's a little inconvenient, the cursor should move onto the left monitor when I move the mouse to the left side of the right monitor.
Really can't figure out how to set this up without making the left monitor the main monitor, which I'm not doing.

Annnnnnnnnnnd about 30 seconds after posting this I figured it out... that's 20 minutes wasted.

->To be announced

I make a track maybe once a week (takes a week to completely finish one usually) and put it on soundcloud until I'm bored of it. So this topic might get updated some time in the future. Also I update tracks fairly often.

Off Topic / Abnormal GPU fan speeds
« on: August 20, 2011, 05:58:43 PM »
My GPU fan is seemingly randomly changing the fan speed by up to 30%, even while idling. It will be sitting at a constant 40% speed, and then for 3 or 4 seconds jump up to about 70%. When gaming it might be running at 60% or so and then jump down to 30-40% for a few seconds.
I'm using the TriXX utility for controlling the fan, however even when I set TriXX to us a fixed speed, or when I completely close TriXX the fan still ranges its speed wildly. When I open Catalyst and disable manual fan control, it re-enables it after a few seconds much like TriXX does when I put it in control, and the problem persists.
I have absolutely no idea what's going on and would appreciate some insight.
The card is a new SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 6850 and I've only been noticing this problem today.

Edit:
Also note that I know this isn't a temperature problem, normally the fan is set to scale with temperature, but this is happening regardless of the temperature.

Creativity / Ship Sprite
« on: August 03, 2011, 07:00:00 PM »
Sprite I made a while ago. I've never actually been too good at making sprites but this one turned out well imo.
Opinions?

Also it's being rendered in a simple C++ and OpenGL test bed. If I get enough inspiration I may start development of an actual game with the help of a few buddies of mine.

Off Topic / Radeon 6850 worth it?

Is the extra $70 for a Radeon 6850 opposed to a 6770 worth it?

« on: April 02, 2011, 08:50:35 PM »
Got this game a few days ago and have been playing it quite a bit. I don't think I've ever seen a topic for this game or other Stalker games.
Basically the Stalker universe is based around the Chernobyl disaster, with a twisted universe where people are wandering the "zone", the Chernobyl exclusion zone, a place where (in this game) anomalies, radiation, and mutants are rampant and everything seems like it can/will kill you, to gather artifacts. Or something like that.
You are sent into the zone to investigate crashed helicopters from the military's failed operation STINGRAY - an attempt to scout out and take control of the zone.

Off Topic / Graphics Card
« on: January 22, 2011, 09:16:16 PM »
So for the past few weeks I've been looking into buying a new PC as an upgrade from my current (not so great) one.
At the moment the only thing I'm still primarily deciding on is a nice graphics card. I want something affordable that will run most new games at a good FPS. I've been looking at a Radeon 5770, 6850 or 6870 for the most part lately, and I'm leaning more towards the 6850. But I would just like some opinions from some people with more experience with this sort of thing.
I'm open to any opinions on my current choices, or suggestions for alternate choices that any of you may have.

Also any opinions on a decent keyboard? Don't think I want to pay more then around $150 for one.

Games / Ace Combat: Assault Horizon
« on: October 17, 2010, 05:57:36 PM »
Ace Combat: Assault Horizon is an upcoming arcade combat flight video game developed by Project Aces and published by Namco Bandai for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. It is the first in the series to be released for the PlayStation 3 and the second game for the Xbox 360 after Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation.

If this game is anything like AC5, I am going to love it forever and ever. And judging by the debut trailer, it's going to be a hell of a game

Games / DUST 514
« on: July 26, 2010, 10:21:29 PM »

Dust 514 (officially capitalized DUST 514) is an upcoming console-based MMOFPS set within the Eve universe, developed by CCP Games. It was announced on August 18, 2009 at the Game Developers Conference in Cologne, Germany and was introduced with a short trailer featuring unrendered footage of the game.[1][2] This game will be the first game developed by CCP since Eve Online, and it is currently being developed by CCP's Shanghai studio. According to Hilmar Veigar Petursson, the CEO of CCP Games, the game is being developed for the seventh generation of video game consoles (Wii, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3).[2]
The game features users fighting ground battles in wars on planets in the Eve Online universe.[3] According to a preview by Edge, the events that happen in this game will affect the EVE Online universe. Battles in this game can also determine who controls various planets in the EVE universe, and users in Dust 514 can interact with users from the EVE universe such as providing mercenary assistance.[4] In an interview conducted by Simon Carless of Gamasutra, Petursson said that he hopes "these [Eve Online and Dust 514] communities will meld over time", bridging the two environments. He also wanted to establish a relationship between the flying-oriented nature of Eve Online and the infantry-oriented nature of Dust 514, saying "while the fleet does the flying, the infantry does the dying". [3] According to Game Informer, this gives fans and players of Eve Online a new challenge in testing their FPS skills.[5]

I myself play EvE Online quiet a bit, and naturally can't wait for this. Possibly one of the most ambitious console games ever made, crossing the EvE Online MMORPG focused solely on the PC with a first person shooter based on consoles. Each affecting the others gameworld. Whoever buys this game better defend my planets well.

    Update:

    • CCP is going to be using some procedural systems to generate unique battlefields and environments on each planet (There are about 50000 planets in EvE, mind you. With a percentage of gas giants and the like, there will still be thousands of planets for DUST players to fight on.)
    • Battles will each have a commander for each side, stationed in a massive Mobile Command Center (MCC). From there they will be able to launch installations, vehicles and other devices and items onto the battlefield. These command centers are player controlled, can be moved, can be destroyed and from what I've read/heard will need to be fitted before battle.
    • The battles will heavily influence the world of EvE Online. They will be the deciding factor for who controls what, where and how much they control in the EvE universe. Players in the EvE universe will be able to issue contracts for DUST 514 players to accept for money that (from what I've read so far) will be shared between games.
    • The battles will feature "More then 16, but less then 256" players.
    • Customizable vehicles!
    • The game is being designed as an MMOFPS, it can run perfectly fine without EVE Online, just as EVE can run perfectly fine without it. They do affect each other when linked, though.
    • Capsuleers do the flying, DUST marines do the dying

    Games / Starcraft II
    « on: July 08, 2010, 01:44:14 PM »

    What's StarCraft II?
StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty is a military science fiction real-time strategy video game currently under development by Blizzard Entertainment as a sequel to the award-winning 1998 video game StarCraft. The game is being developed for concurrent release on Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X. StarCraft II is split into three installments: the base game with the subtitle Wings of Liberty, and two expansion packs, Heart of the Swarm and Legacy of the Void. On May 3, 2010, publisher Activision Blizzard announced that Wings of Liberty will be released worldwide on July 27, 2010.[7][8][9]
Set in the 26th century in a distant part of the Milky Way galaxy, the game is built around three species: the Terrans, human exiles from Earth; the Zerg, a race of insectoid genetic assimilators; and the Protoss, a species with vast psionic power. Wings of Liberty will focus on the Terrans specifically, while the expansions Heart of the Swarm and Legacy of the Void will focus on the Zerg and Protoss, respectively. The game is expected to be set four years after the events of StarCraft: Brood War, and follow the exploits of Jim Raynor as he leads an insurgent group against the autocratic Terran Dominion. The game will include old characters from the original game, as well as introduce new characters and locations to the franchise. From SC2 Wiki

    I can't wait
Being a fan of the original StarCraft, I can not wait for the sequel. I've been watching a few in-game commentaries of battles and match-ups and personally I'm pretty excited.
