Help / Not able to use downloaded add-ons

for some reason, when I download an add-on, and move it into the add-ons folder, I'm still not able to use them. when I download them, I don't un-zip them, and just move the directly to the add-on folder, however, when I go to open up a single-player server on custom, I can't use them. Its not that I can't toggle them in the add-on screen, its that I can't even find them, at all, inside the game. Anyone have a solution, or having the same problem?
