General Discussion / Re: Setting up gamemode maps

I've never worked with blockheads ruin x-mas, but those are the pieces you need for speedkart. If you use additional brick packs or add-ons, you will need to include their names in the gamemode.txt file. Making maps and gamemodes is not for the faint of heart, so you have some research and hard work ahead of you.

I plan on using all default bricks/etc for the maps because I am uploading them and want everybody to be able to use them. I guess it will be a little harder than expected but probably something I can pull off. I got the bricks for the speedkart set up, I am not sure if it will actually work or not yet but I think I got all the necessary blocks.

UPDATE:  I have been working on this fairly steadily, but I tend to work slow to because I want every detail to be perfect. I have pretty much all the walls finished, just need to add some gates, and I have the bulk of the island built. I have also added a speedkart starting line with the kart spawns. I think it is about time to start adding the actual town  buildings.

Unless you have a very clear and specific question, you have to figure it out yourself depending on what you're trying to do.
Builds are tailored to fit their gamemode, there is no universal map.

For example if you want to make your own speedkart map, you could duplicate the kart spawns and win-brick onto a single plate, duplicate that plate, and then clear all bricks before replanting. Then save that and you have the necessary pieces. All that is left is to build your track.
Yes that is what I was intending to ask. What bricks do I need? I also am unsure what bricks are need for a blockheads ruin X-mas map to make it work.

Well I mean, I noticed there are certain builds that are on different game modes (the race tracks for example have a starting line where everybody spawns and picks a car/etc). What do I need to build/event to make it work correctly?

Is there anybody who is willing to help me figure out setting up gamemode maps? I am currently working on a build that I want to be compatible with ever gamemode but I do not know how to set it up for Blockheads Ruin Xmas or for Speedkart racing. I have the basic race track set up and a spot for the Xmas game mode I just do not know what to do brick/event wise for these things and do not know where to start as I have not experimented much with gamemodes. Can anybody give me a hand by either helping me build or helping explain what to do? Thanks a bunch to anybody who can help.

what is your brick limit anyway?

I think it is like 260,000 or something like that, which I am at a little over 100,000 right now and still have like a whole town to build.

Not if the walls are made of mirrors, the enemy wont know what side your coming from!

More ontopic though McZealot is right, anyone who can figure out how to install a gamemode isn't going to need a tutorial. You should focus attention more on some of the things the tutorial doesn't cover, and you should probably have a look at finding a third color for the castle too.

The current unfinished version that is available for download covers plenty of things many may not have known, including many little known tricks and thing that many have not bothered to learn (such as macros, /commands (all of them), and console commands ('all' of them)). It has many of the basics that were skipped but advances well beyond that. Beyond that the version that is being worked on that will be the final product will be more than just a tutorial map, it will be a one size fits all for all default game modes in the game. The only problem I may face now is I worry about hitting the brick limit. I am getting close to half way there and I still have much to build so it just might reach it before I finish which would be a shame.

UPDATE: I have decided to take this project back up and have started working on it already. I also have plans to make it even better than just a build on top of the tutorial, and make it compatible with all of the defult game modes as its own map for them.

UPDATE After some consideration I have decided to start working on this project again. It will still likely be a while before I actually release it but since person life for me has gone up I have the energy to work on this gain. I have plenty of ideas for this, my main concern is that I will hit the brick limit before I finish, but hopefully I can at least get the main town finished before that. Thank you to all of you who complimented the build so far. The finished product will be much better hopefully. I plan on making it a medieval island type build that if I do not hit the brick limit first will be compatible with all default game mode types as new map for each of them.

holy. stuff.
that is amazing

i didn't expect something so well done but damn was i wrong
i presume its made out of all default bricks and colorset?

Thank you. I was actually worried about not having it perfect. I build slow because I end up obsessing over every detail. This is actually a little bland compared to what I planned. I wanted to be compatible for the most people so I made it using all default things.

OP said it was fine if I posted the save to this so you don't have to contact him.

Holy mother of god this is amazing, seriously. The aesthetic theme along with a much more extended tutorial that fits the theme of the old one is just astonishing. I didn't even get through the whole thing yet and I am telling you to try it out immediately.

Here's some better pictures I just took:

Only thing I would suggest for now is to make the text white instead of red.

I am just going to add those links to the OP if that is okay. Also thank you so much! I am glad you liked it. I would have liked to finish it because the end product was planned to be way better, but I do not have the energy lately. Eventually I will probably get back to it.

With your permission I would like to use these in a build of mine. I can give you credit if you wish. Will there be a way to download these when they are finished or can you email me a save file?

Update: I am taking a break from the game for a while. If you would still like to have this map read this link.

I was going to do much more with this build but since I have moved on from Blockland i figured I mikght as well not let it go to waste. It is basically a much better version of the tutorial map styled after medieval castle. It has many tips and tricks in it, and I think most players, even experienced players can learn a few tricks. I might post a finished version eventually, but it will not be for years, but this in itself is basically a pretty well finished map, just could use a little extra.

If you would like a copy of this map please contact Crazy ManMan on steam and I will send you a compressed file through email. I have no where to post a donwload link currently and I am not going to be very active on this forum for a long time probably, so it is the best way to get ahold of me currently. Or you can just email me Krazy0ManMan@gmail.com I check it pretty regularly.

Also constructive critism is much appreciated. Tell me what you think I did right and what you think I did wrong. I am always trying to improve my building skills.

Edit: Thanks to forum user gr8dayseth there is a download link now available here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/piodwpytrpp9qs2/AAB6fZ0LwKcLpgHAhMFiD9TSa?dl=1

And better images here:

edit 2: It is made with default color set and default bricks. I wanted everybody to be able to use it without installing mods.

UPDATE: This project has been revived. The finished product will not be availed for some time likely but rest assured, this will be a much more complete build when finished. If you are interested you can help me build as well. Just add me on steam or just show up on my server whenever it is up.
