and iirc it crashes.
This is not a good description of your problem. You're not going to be able to get much help until you provide more detail. (I realize that you're not explicitly asking for help, but this thread exists because you're having this problem)
The least you could do is run steam in a shell and search the output for errors:
Code: [Select]
$ steam
Running Steam on arch 64-bit
STEAM_RUNTIME is enabled automatically

As seen above, there's always a bunch of harmless error spam, so it's a bit difficult to figure out which error messages are related to your problem. If you do manage, however, to find relevant error messages (or can restate your problem more clearly), search google or the tf2 for linux bug tracker. If you're very sure that you've uncovered a "new" bug, then leave a good bug report there.
In my opinion, finding out and understanding problems like this is an essential (and maybe fun) part of using Linux, no matter how shiny your distribution claims to be.
why are linux and apple users always trying to game anyways. they must be slow learners.agreed, windows is the best gaming platform. maybe gaben can change that, though. or maybe not. actually probably not
of all the pro reasons they claim they want to use them, they actually in fact put all effort into using a computer like it has windows and can run it like it uses windows.
its hipster remorse, with to much pride to admit defeat.
