Off Topic / Re: Free multiplayer linux FPS games with voice chat?
« on: March 02, 2014, 11:24:11 PM »
Not working on linux. It just freezes when it starts.
and iirc it crashes.

This is not a good description of your problem. You're not going to be able to get much help until you provide more detail. (I realize that you're not explicitly asking for help, but this thread exists because you're having this problem)
The least you could do is run steam in a shell and search the output for errors:
Code: [Select]
$ steam
Running Steam on arch  64-bit
STEAM_RUNTIME is enabled automatically
Installing breakpad exception handler for appid(steam)/version(1393366296_client)

As seen above, there's always a bunch of harmless error spam, so it's a bit difficult to figure out which error messages are related to your problem. If you do manage, however, to find relevant error messages (or can restate your problem more clearly), search google or the tf2 for linux bug tracker. If you're very sure that you've uncovered a "new" bug, then leave a good bug report there.

In my opinion, finding out and understanding problems like this is an essential (and maybe fun) part of using Linux, no matter how shiny your distribution claims to be.

why are linux and apple users always trying to game anyways. they must be slow learners.
of all the pro reasons they claim they want to use them, they actually in fact put all effort into using a computer like it has windows and can run it like it uses windows.

its hipster remorse, with to much pride to admit defeat.
agreed, windows is the best gaming platform. maybe gaben can change that, though. or maybe not. actually probably not

General Discussion / Re: Is Blockland Down?.com
« on: January 11, 2014, 11:23:46 PM »
This is a helpful site and all, but why was it necessary to use frames? If the content of the site is hosted on zapkraft.net, why not just CNAME isblocklanddown.com to zapkraft.net and configure nginx accordingly?

Code: [Select]
<frameset rows='100%, *' frameborder=no framespacing=0 border=0>
<frame src="http://zapkraft.net/blocklandup/" name=mainwindow frameborder=no framespacing=0 marginheight=0 marginwidth=0></frame>
</frameset>
<noframes><h2>Your browser does not support frames. We recommend upgrading your browser.</h2><br><br>
<center>Click <a href="http://zapkraft.net/blocklandup/" >here</a> to enter the site.</center>
</noframes>

Sorry if I'm coming across as a jerk here -- I was just wondering. And the site is cool.

Drama / Re: DDoS Threat by BL_ID 44599, Known currently as Fungasamongus
« on: January 01, 2014, 12:47:41 PM »
After attempting to make him stop he proceed to threaten to DDoS either the server or the server's official website.

A player with the same BL_ID and name came on my freebuild, lagged it out by duplicating thousands of 1x1s, and made the same DDoS threat when I banned him. Nothing happened.

It's no big deal, guys. He just wants attention.

I suggest using FileZilla for using FTP.
Nothing wrong with FileZilla, but WinSCP is another great Windows FTP client. It's my favorite, matter of fact.

If you have RTB, you can use the ID lookup tool.

http://whatsmyip.org/

or mine that took me about 5 seconds: http://thesupremenerd.com/ip/
You can use that in automated scripts for Dynamic DNS or whatever if you'd like.

NOEDIT: Or look at the bottom right of your posts.
Wow! I didn't think of that! :cookieMonster:

I'm thinking of Linus Torvalds.

I go through all the questions and the last one he asks is "Does your character use Linux?" and I hit yes. It's on to me!

Then it guesses Bill Gates.

errrfail

EDIT: okay, I kept going and it got it.
