Off Topic / Re: How good is this graphics card for TF2?
« on: December 19, 2010, 03:09:07 PM »
Ok.  So is it possible for me to get a 7800GT for a PCI slot?  I know my computer is crap but it is all my Mom could afford, it at least lets me play blockland and stuff so I can't complain.
What's your computer make/model? If you can figure that out, then you can search up your motherboard and figure out what sort of slots you have.

The 8400 is slightly worse than the 7800GT which runs TF2 pretty well, so it should be fine. It's a PCI card though which means your computer probably blows (if it doesn't even have a PCI-E or, god forbid, AGP) -- your processor is probably the main bottleneck. When I upgraded to a 5870 I was still rocking a Pentium IV so stuff was weak. When I snapped in a new i7 920, it ran perfectly.

Yeah, put it in a sealed container with water. Try to avoid warm places too.

/b/ is where all the 12-year-olds go to get their fix of DEM MEEMS after they're done with lolcats. It's a bit like Xbox Live, except instead of their seething vitriol having context, they choose instead to emulate everyone else. It's where the noncomformists go to conform.
/r9k/ is like the hipster little brother of /b/ and about a hundred times funnier in that sad, ironic way.

I wish my user would learn how to resize avatars properly.

This video offends my delicate sensibilities. I demand its immediate removal.

Off Topic / Re: Wikileaks - 250k US Embassy Cables leaked...
« on: December 05, 2010, 03:31:03 PM »
Oh you silly Americans. The department of homeland security can't do stuff because Assange isn't even an American citizen. The absolute best the government could muster was an attempt to levy rape charges against him. Wikileaks isn't hosted on one server, they're scattered throughout most of Europe and now there are hundreds of volunteers offering to mirror it, so taking it down is virtually impossible.

This information being out in the open is a good thing. The government doesn't keep secrets to keep people safe, it keeps secrets to maintain face. The two are closely related, sure, but it's an important distinction to make. And quite frankly, this glimpse into the world of diplomacy is fascinating.

so Why does this guy do this? is he just trollin?

Fame, probably. Julian Assange is the face of Wikileaks now. I somewhat doubt he's doing it because it's the 'right' thing to do. With an organization like this, though, the motives of the individual are irrelevant. Assange isn't the only one behind Wikileaks, and there are countless people who support the mission. So long as people believe that the governments of the world should be open, I'm sure we'll continue to see leaks.

The release of the cables wasn't a, "Ha ha, let's see how much we can forget up your diplomatic efforts!" but rather a wake-up call. The people should know what their government is up to.

I haven't taken any medication in the past 4 days.
Oh. In that case, it's either Von Willebrand disease or a non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Congrats!
You're going to die.

Were you on any sort of medication? Anticoagulants, aspirin, ibuprofen, accutane, -- there are a lot that cause spontaneous nosebleeds. It's generally pretty rare, but it's still a distinct possibility. Generally it shouldn't take 10 minutes for your blood to clot unless something's interfering.

Yeah, your best bet in this situation is to just reinstall Windows. If it checks C: on startup every time though, it sounds like an issue with your hard drive.
