The realization wipes the weak smile off of Jaakko’s face. Her paralysis was more extensive than he’d thought. He felt bad for her. She was alive, which was more than he could say for his squadron. He wondered that if he were in her position, would he be able to put up with being paralyzed from the neck down?

Would he rather be dead? Tippy was dead-

Tippy.

Jaakko realizes he’s been staring at Musashi’s motionless limbs.

“Sorry,” he apologizes purposelessly.

“Do you think that the war is over now?” he asks in a somber tone.

Jaakko gives a weak smile.

"Hell, I guess I'll have to learn how to drive good, never did have to drive much back then... Half the time I would ride a snow mobile..."

"And we barely stopped them anyway..." Jaakko laments, "Thank the Gods- but we lost so much stopping them."

He glances at Musashi's now-useless feet, then looks at the floor. His mind is blank, and Jaakko can't seem to come up with anything else to say.

"Sorry," he says reflexively.

"Oh, I'm thinking about going to Kintharia, but I don't know what I'd do once I get there,"

“I wanted to say thank you for stopping Xiaomei from shooting me down when you guys encountered us before... all this happened,” Jaakko replies quietly.

Sadness still burns his stomach thinking about Tippy, though he tries to keep it suppressed if only for a few minutes.

Jaakko hesitates for a moment, then wipes his face and approaches Musashi.

“Hello Musashi,” he greets quietly.

She seemed to be out of it.

"Get well," he says quietly.

He walks back towards Ash and Lorens, glancing at Musashi to see whether or not she is conscious.

A few more tears run down Jaakko’s face.

“...I’m so sorry, I don’t know what else to say,”

He is silent again for a few moments.

“I know she means a lot to you. She means a lot to me. I know myself and your squadron have been at odds in the past... but if you need or want something or want to talk, let me know,”

Jaakko looks up, taken aback.

"Wha-? Oh my Gods,"

He is silent for a moment.

"Search and rescue couldn't find Tippy... Sorry... I'm sorry," Jaakko laments.

Jaakko nods and is silent for half a minute.

“I understand,” he says finally, “I’ve been pretty broken up about everything,”

He falls silent again.

“I wanted to check up on you... because you were close to Tippy...” Jaakko has to force the words out of his mouth.

Sadness starts burning in his chest.

“I think she would want me... to check up on you...”

A tear runs down his face. He grabs the bridge of his nose and looks at the floor.

“Sorry,” he laments.

His voice a weary but with hints of Jaakko trying to make his tone sound warmer.

I cannot conceive what civilian life would be like. Kintharia I think would probably be receptive of someone who helped them stop the Aesthian attack,”

Jaakko sighs.

“I trusted you and your squadron when you told us that the Imperials would violently and overwhelmingly retaliate with nukes if Aesthia struck first, which was asking me to go against Aesthia, collaborate with the Imperials, and work for Kintharia’s interests. And I did that with an awful lot of blind trust that you and your squad mates weren’t turncoat and were telling the truth,”

Jaakko scowls.

“My first squadron I was assigned to was attrited leading up to Taiton, then lost the rest of its strength to the Deltans, I was not in command. And now...”

Jaakko suppresses his frustration at the insinuation that he had allowed Mjolnir to be wiped out, but he wonders if there was anything different he could have done.

“We gave up so much to stop Aesthia and the Imperials from destroying everything, and it nearly happened anyways. I don’t know why I survived when everybody else gave up everything. If you think it’s because of cowardice or some fault of my character, I’d like to know,”

Jaakko holds his gaze for a few seconds, then looks away and composes himself.

"I want to go to Kintharia, and I want to know if you can help me get there,"

He pauses.

"And if getting involved with the KZG buys me a more certain future, then I want to know about that too," he says quietly.
