Help / Dedicated Server - Saving Blocks - How/Is it possible?
« on: August 30, 2009, 02:09:51 PM »
I've seen this brought up in several topics and there is never an answer. I'm hoping with this clear title we can finally have the proper question asked and the proper answer delivered, whatever it may be:

Is there a way to save bricks on a dedicated server from THE CONSOLE? I would like to be able to script periodic saves of my server so that if it crashes we don't have to rely on a client to reload (and then worry about if they saw all of the bricks).

I found this post, but the commands did not work: http://forum.blockland.us/index.php?topic=12678.0

So again: Is there a way to save bricks on a dedicated server from THE CONSOLE?

Badspot - If there currently is NOT a way can this be included in the future? I honestly consider it the ONLY downside to server hosting.

Build stuff in a private server. There is no such thing as an original thought these days. Everyone takes something they've seen and try to make it better.

Oh, and yeah...

YOU'RE PLAYING A GAME WITH LEGO BLOCKS. ON THE INTERNET. Is it worth being upset about?

You can run an unlimited number of dedicated servers on the same key.

When you start a dedicated server that does not have a key.dat, it will prompt you to enter the key via setKey(AAAAA-1234-1234-1234);

Oh, haha, I didn't actually try typing that command into the console. It worked. Thanks, Badspot! :)

This is a Windows 2003 server on a bonded T1 internet connection. I will actually be playing the game (along with others) on a DIFFERENT computer. The machine would only run the dedicated server batch file.

So I guess I just need to wait for Badspot to see this! I won't mind paying for another key to support your work... other games usually offer up the dedicated server for free... so hopefully you have some recourse! :)

Ah, well that's good. I still need to know how to set the key, as the actual full-blown game cannot be run on this particular machine (as I said, no 3D card). I've tried copying my key.dat, but that doesn't work. Any ideas on how to set the key via the command-line?

Hey guys. Is there any way possible to host a dedicated server without purchasing a second license? This machine would be hosting only as my home machine does not have the bandwidth for the number of people that would be connected. This server will never actually run the full retail game, only the console-based server.

Any ideas? Badspot, do you support this?

edit: And as a second question... if I DO have to put a key on the server, how do I set it? I cannot actually launch the game as the server does not have a 3D accelerator. I get some message saying "Input key via setKey...". How can I do this?

Help / Re: 3 blockland v8 problems
« on: August 13, 2007, 12:55:07 PM »
I would have posted this the other day, but I was waiting for my forum account to be approved :p

A fresh install of Blockland v8 creates the "add-ons" folder. You need to rename the folder "Add-Ons" (case-sensitive). That will fix your problem.
