Gallery / Castle Start
« on: May 19, 2012, 12:32:49 AM »
I have decided to finally start on another castle, and here is what I have so far.  The walls are approximately 20 bricks high, I think higher, but as of now all I have done are the exterior walls of the castle.  The red squares on the inside are my guide for the inner castle part, and I plan for the castle to be a reddish-brownish color.  Tell me what you think so far.

Fantastic, I've been waiting for you to do another castle.  Your "travels" builds were very well done, and it was only a matter of time before you threw a fantastic castle out there.  Keep up the good work.

Those round wall bricks don't work very well for the castle. It's almost as if it looks like it doesn't fit in with the castle.

They don't match perfectly, but I kept them round because I made this castle first in the WiiWare game, Sandy Beach, and since the towers were round in it, I kept them round when I converted it to Blockland.

Lord Tony
Period

Could you point me in the direction of Lord Tony's castles then?  I could only find a few in the gallery.  This is not my best castle, I still have Kingdom of Heaven, and White Gold Castle also.

I was very pleasantly surprised when I saw this build.  The outside is phenomenal, and I enjoy the muted color scheme.  It doesn't bother me that the outside and inside are the same bricks for the walls, because the inside of the house could also be brown.  If it were red brick or something like that however, it would bother me.  Great use of windows and balconies, overall it is a fantastic build.

I've had this castle sitting in my saves for a while, and I just spent about 45 min finishing it.  It is a small castle, only 21,203 bricks.  I don't plan on furnishing it because it is just too small to do it effectively, and that's why I didn't post any interior shots because they would just be empty rooms.  My main purpose for building castles is that I want to be known as the best castle builder in blockland, and until I earn the title, I will keep building.  Feel free to rate, or comment, but keep in mind I'm not going to do anything else to the castle.

Well, I must say it's a well done castle.
However, the only thing I liked with it was the shape of the outside. Very well made and creative.
The inside is very dull and boring + the fact that there no interior walls.

The entrance hall is first of all very empty. The walls is plain with nothing sticking out, other than those banners, which makes you see that the room actually is a square. I find the guards quarters pretty strange because it only uses wood. And it's the only room that uses wood for other things than for decorations. Anyhow it looks pretty and more interesting with the use of wood in the castle, so that would be good to increase. The throne room needs more decorations and details. Especially on the wall behind the throne. The windows there looks strange and the beams is waaay too thin. Looks like they'll fall any second. The dining room is one of the worst rooms. Really boring and also random. It needs more stuff on the walls. Stone pillars, decorations.. I don't care. Just add more stuff.

Improve these things and it'll be great.
Love the build, keep on buildin dude.

I added more pictures to the main post.  As for the throne room, I didn't want to fill it with a lot of random stuff because the focus should be on the king so by making it simple, the focus stays.  As for the dining room, that was the Royal Family Dining Room, so only for the king, queen, prince, and princess.  I posted a picture of the Great Hall in the first post. I also added two pictures of an east and west wing hallway, which they do very, and the east is more ornate because of the height and narrowness of the hallway, while since the west hallway was shorter and wider, it can't be done as easily.

White Gold Castle is finally finished.  It sits upon the cove island on the map “The Islands 2.”  The castle in its entirety has 94,092 bricks.  There are around 15 bedrooms, a great hall, kitchen and storeroom, throne room, guard quarters, and a private area at the top of the castle for the royal family. I have worked for several hours on this build, probably at least 30, and I have taken into consideration many of the comments posted by members before I finished the build.  Feel free to rate, and post any positive or constructive comments about the build.  I may eventually post the save, but I'm going to wait for comments from people first and see how many people want it.

(Update) Here is a link to the save, keep in mind you still need the map "The Islands 2"  but I have no Idea how you would get it.  http://www.mediafire.com/?x4c78pohoh6oybj

(Update 2) I am including this link which is originally for the save "Kingdom of Heaven," but it includes the map and I think all the add-ons required for this build as well.  When you extract the folder, take everything inside the "Kingdom of Heaven" folder and move it to your default blockland directory, make sure you move it to the new directory otherwise the textures in the map will not work properly.  NOTE!!!  You will still have to download the other file because this one is for the map and my other castle, not White Gold Castle.

its nice and all but i dont like how bright the white is :\

Sorry, but I'm not changing it to "Off-White" Gold Castle lol, and I added the patches of gray to soften the white.

There have been so many astonishing remarks from people and I'm only about 1/3 of the way done.

If a castles walls cannot defend then they are useless walls that shouldn't be there.
Traditionally castles would have 3 or more walls each separated by a deep trench filled with nasty things like spears and spikes and plagued rats to add to the defense, if it wall is so short that people can jump over it the what's the point? It wouldn't even be able to fend off bombardment by artillery such as ballistas and catapults.

I appreciate that this is not real life, but a castle just isn't a castle without enormous walls to keep out invaders, it's more of a holiday home

Very true, but that is more for a castle that is on a large plot of land.  This castle is built on a very tall, very steep island and the only entrance is from the harbor at the beginning because it would not be possible to scale the sides of the island.  If a siege were truly to happen, there wouldn't be any place for the opposing army to place ballistas or catapults and the bridge connecting the harbor to the castle could be destroyed to prevent anyone from ever reaching the top.  It would not realistically be possible to get an army to the top of the island, but if it will please people, after I'm done with the main castle itself, I will build another wall further down to eliminate all attempts for siege, but without blocking the view of the sea from the courtyard.
