It's really fun, just remember to drink water! I speak awful German and do handstands (miraculously not falling over either). Even with water, however, the morning after can be loving terrible lol

Off Topic / I love Blockland and the forums (a small note)
« on: July 02, 2015, 02:16:29 AM »
You guys were the first internet community that turned me from dumb 13 year old to starfish 14 year old to now (pretty okay) 18 year old. You guys have always been my haven. I have found some other groups, mainly music groups, that have accepted me, but something about this forum just makes it irreplaceable. I love all you guys. I remember tidbits of so much, and honestly I probably don't know a great deal of you  guys now, but it makes me happy seeing new creative faces, and new starfishs, of whom I know will become good people. I hope this forum never dies, because when it does, a part of me will honestly die. It's late, and things are starting to sound mushy, but seriously thank you all for making me what I am today. Thank you guys :)  :iceCream:

Note: Not a leaving post

Sincerely,
Cucumber!

you don't understand. the problem i have with synths (and guitars) is that the only thing people try to do nowadays is try to replicate the "vintage" sound. what if i don't want to sound like every other artist? i want sound for the modern age. if i wanted to be pretentious and make musique concrete then yeah i'd buy a moog modular, but i don't want to. people who try making innovative synths are always drowned out by these vintage replicas with no innovation whatsoever. i understand that there was innovation put into some of these instruments for their time, but we are in the 21st century now. musicians have to evolve more and more and keep on making things people have never heard before to get noticed, but almost any instrument company can just sit on old schematics from the 50s and sell like hotcakes.
I love synthpop and old synthesizers to be honest. I think when done right they work beautifully and don't sound pretentious at all. For me they create a suspense and atmosphere.

Along with just memorizing these things (Which is actually easier than you think), just don't be intimidated by the math. If you have questions, ask questions! Math is really cool, and this is coming from an average-grade math student. It can be scary but just remember it's actually pretty cool stuff.

My advice to your music is just don't get roostery. I'm not saying you are, but plenty of electronic musicians I know have failed to progress in EDM because they get too full of themselves and think that they have reached a godly level. So just keep studying mixing techniques, and music theory, and just keep on learning. After a quick listen to your songs, the only real suggestion I have is to vary up your percussion and make your beats more lively! Your electroswing things have potential, but there's really not as much swing to it. Overall, good stuff.

I'm not trying to plug my music, but I made an electroswing song about a year ago, and I really played around with the percussion to give it that swing vibe. You can listen here if you'd like to compare and contrast to your music.
