goth wont listen to any of yall. he thrives off of believing the entire rest of the world is against him and that he is superior to everyone else due to his alternate (and extremely incorrect) views on things like this

i sincerely hope his kids in the future don't end up really struggling because they don't like their identity yet are forced to deal with the constant feeling of dysphoria because of their loving father refusing to let them be who they want to be in life

General Discussion / Re: WTF is this playercount?
« on: March 15, 2021, 09:16:45 AM »
i think that actually got changed with the steam only update or something. 3 servers under one dtoken/key (?) is the new limit i heard, though unsure how true this information is
yes, after 13 years badspot finally implemented a limiter to how many servers you can post at once, after the ms kept getting hit over and over when the key leaks were going on
...but of course he still never added a sensible playercount limit

I personally disagree with the lighting part, because static maps can look really good with the right shader mods IMO.
i guess in your case with outdoor scenes it doesnt look too terrible (aside from every single surface having the plastic-like shader which looks trash imo), but if you try making any interior map like bedroom you'll end up with no lighting inside of it. fine for blockhead scaled stuff since you can place brick lights but classic maps like bedroom/kitchen are just entirely shaded inside and look terrible compared to how they did in v20

Suggestions & Requests / Re: gm_highway/gm_bigcity/gm_fork static map?
« on: March 05, 2021, 02:46:30 PM »
ive had some success porting source maps to v20 rather then poopy staticmaps, but its quite a janky process with results that require a forgetton of patching up before being functional and looking good:

some of gm_excess_construct:

i did end up finishing a map port into a complete downloadable map, and that is gm_flatgrass

this method of porting maps gives you results with just-about perfect collision with players and vehicles, and proper lighting with baked lights, but is also a pain in the ass to fix up for proper use on more complicated maps. and also the textures for big maps like gm_bigcity take up a lot of space, which takes aages to download over a torque server

Regardless, amazing job on all this. I guess I'm partly upset because I was really hoping this static map stuff would like... you know... take off, and we'd be getting all sorts of crazy maps.
staticmaps never took off because theyre such a janky and unoptimized system to work with, and end up looking far worse then maps in v20 ever did
even though making proper maps for v20 is also a pain in the ass, at least you end up with proper terrain and better looking lighting in the end
and most of all a result that users can download in under a minute, while v21s staticmaps are a complete hog on datablock count that take soo long to download over a slow torque connection

third party application called Hamachi or a similar VPN service.
Yes you can still use hamachi free of charge but it comes with a limitation
i havent personally used it myself but ive heard zerotier one is a far far better alternative to hamachi, without the dumb restrictions and users dont have to sign up at all unless they want to host

Yes please, and thank you for your understanding and kindness. Due to a series of unfortunate events (including medical stuff), I'm very much out of the loop on the whole situation. Other people could also use a refresh and summary about the history and situation too.
you can try and read through the old forum topics to catch up on stuff, though theres a forgetton of terrible stuff to comb through. ill try to sum stuff up here:

- some people dont like brickadia due to its complete lack of modding at the moment. devs say it'l be added later in development, but there's a big concern made that they didnt focus on adding modding at the very beginning.
- brickadia has stricter moderation in place to help keep the community be far more tolerable. in blockland, moderation is almost nowhere to be seen. so theres a lot of people around here who just stuff on brickadia because they can't harass people on it
- there was quite a bit of controversy in the past about two members of the dev team being discovered to be creeps. they were both removed from the dev team fairly quickly since then but theres still controversy surrounding that. this has long since settled but some people here still bring it up
- some people plainly just like blockland more. and are tired of people constantly talking about brickadia

the blockland forums just isnt a good place to bring up brickadia. almost all of the people actually into brickadia dont even look at the BLF anymore which just leaves the people who hate it for whatever reason

I'm mad we never got to see them at their full potential because they were removed from the game before the really smart modders started getting active.
this is such a true statement. think back to adjustable plate blowing everyones minds with being able to modify the environment in real-time for the first time. there was so much potential for mixing code with maps to really turn them into being far more interactive and great. but instead what happened is that the person who made adjustable plate just had all his efforts thrown in the trash and we never saw this potential in future maps realize

In badspots defence though, interiors & terrain really are extremely dated and are a pain in the ass to work with. its a part of torque that didn't age as well. its kinda like how hellish valve's old hammer is for making source maps. except even worse, since torques havent had any updates for so many years. but rehauling the map system and losing all old maps in the process is still a better outcome then having no maps at all whatsoever. though we know which of those takes far more effort lol

And you can say "But graphics!" but the shadows do not even look good. I will genuinely never understand this sentiment
also they run like loving garbage. its harder to tell nowadays because most people are running super modern GPUs but when v21 dropped in 2012-2013 so little loving people were able to run shadows well and the inability to run them just made the upgrade a downgrade for most people. such a wreck.

interesting how you only log back in to defend brickadia
1) it is very obvious i do not only post to defend brickadia. please use ur eyes. i have posted many other things on this forum.
2) this isnt me defending brickadia, funny how you immediately jumped to that. its just ive seen these same points said over and over again despite already having so much discussion about it already on the forums and elsewhere. yes im also not happy with not being able to mod the game yet, and having so little ability to create custom gamemodes to host for the game is very unfun. this is the big reason why brickadia is only largely popular for a week or two after an update and then people lose interest again

That still gets me worrying.
I know that they're adding new stuff (color pallete, new UI, optimization) every update, but I'm not sure if their priorities are right. Like basic weapons are okay for testing but do we really need to implement 5 types of SMGs and Assault rifles every update? A huge variety of accessories, when it's still in alpha?
this isnt just one dev making everything. the devs/contributors who are adding the many weapons and many many avatar cosmetics do not know at all how to do proper coding for the game. while those people are making that, the two-ish? devs behind actually coding the fundamentals of the game are still creating the bigger features and stuff
