General Discussion / Re: The Future of RTB

Many people including myself have tried this.
The issue is that it would require both a client and server side mod, meaning it'd be useless for a while, as people start to get it.

That's not an issue if it's included as default content or DLC.

Glad to see RTB is set to become an official part of Blockland. The current roadmap looks good, but I have one addition I'd really like to see; an upgraded server browser.

The current server list is passable and the webpage version is decent but a better, "richer" browser could be built. Something more interesting to look at than plain text, but also more informative than isometric-auto-generated images. I've left this description deliberately vague as I think anyone capable of creating such an add-on probably has many of their own ideas on how it might work.

I'm not trying to run a slave camp; I know everyone has lives to attend to and I'm no beacon of progress. But when I start seeing good builds disappearing and people saying they are going to build their ships elsewhere, I have to wonder what the point of the server is. It's not a slave camp but I don't want it to be a mausoleum either.

For now I'm closing the server. When the season is right it may come back. Let's assume that will be around Summer for now.

Here is the latest save:

Cut him some slack, we know hosting servers for teenage boys and girls is a cut-throat world. He has to keep his image up, don't you know? Now excuse me while I go play with virtual legos and giggle to myself when I make them explode into pieces.

You aren't going to convince me with a tone like that. It may be a virtual building game but that doesn't mean you all have to act like children in the thread.

Thread behavior aside, the server isn't even being used. The only remotely new build of note is the space shuttle and some of the few good builds that were on the server have been removed. It seems pretty clear to me now that most users lack the creative drive and/or attention span to just build something; clearly some arbitrary reward system or a flashy gimmick is needed to grab their attention.

The last 4 pages of this thread have all but convinced me to stop using the server for ARES. I don't want to be associated with behavior like this.

Till a better solution can be devised, I'm repealing the No-WIP rule. Obviously all other related rules (such as No-Spam) are still in effect.

8
No wip ships, so if you do not make progress while at the server it shall be cleared, considering us admins rarely ever visit the server if its not done it will be cleared. That's why I no longer build on the server.

Since when was "no WIP builds on the server" a rule? Now you guys are just making excuses.

grabbed a month of this to try out today

it's quite nice

here's my full opinionated review

The formatting of your review is horrendous but some of your criticisms were reasonable.

Perhaps I've been a poor judge of character.

How effective are shields really going to be in protecting from a direct collision with a battle-grade starship?

You're probably better off putting all power to sublight engines and ramming them as fast as you can manage.

I assumed that anything was possible since the whole discussion is fictional.

Just renewed for another 3 months. I've been really pleased with the service so far.

Why is the server locked?

Wait, so you're actually going to design, manufacture and sell this?

It's not as a difficult as you might imagine; you can buy most/all of the components from sites like this and libraries are typically provided so writing the software isn't so time-consuming.
