Games / Ace Combat Thread | "Radio Failure!"

What the hell is the Ace Combat?

The gameplay in Ace Combat revolves around shooting down enemy planes with guided missiles and a machine gun, and in the later games, a special weapon that the player can select. There are also ground targets that the player has to engage, as well as super-weapons, enemy ace pilots, and even large missiles, in some of the games. Typically, the storylines of the Ace Combat games involve war or insurrections, and sometimes conspiracies. All Ace Combat games are set in a universe called strange-real, where the earth is not quite the same as ours, and there are various different continents and countries, but that's really the only noticable difference, as most things in the strange-real universe are very similar to our own universe.

The Games

Air Combat/Ace Combat
Air Combat is the first game in the series. It was released on arcade machines in 1992, but was then ported to the PS1 system in 1995. Set in an unnamed country in the strange-real universe.

Ace Combat 2
The second game in the series. Only released on the PS1 system in 1997. It introduces Aces, which are more advanced enemies that challenge the player. They are recognizable by their different colour planes, and usually arrive in squadrons. Set in the country of Usea in the strange-real universe. This game also introduces Wing-men that the player can fly with, and be given orders.

Ace Combat 3
The third game, and a science fiction game. Released late 1999 for Japan, and early 2000 everywhere else. Only on the PS1 system. This game is set in the year 2040 in the strange-real universe, and features made-up plane designs. The game's north american release was alot different to the game's Japanese release, in the way that the Japanese release had more story content. In 2011, Namco included the game as the first part of the 'United Galaxy Space Force' series, which connects alot of Bandai-Namco's series into one universe.

Ace Combat 4
The fourth game. Released on the PS2 system between 2001 and 2002. This game introduces the asteroid impact with the strange-real universe (which happens before the game's beginning), and introduces the player's character of Mobius one. It is unknown if the Asteroid impact happens after the events of AC1 and AC2. Despite the previous games having already awesome soundtracks, this game introduces a new, higher-quality soundtrack to the game, available with the new PS2 system's technological abilities, a trend that continues through to most Ace Combat games after this point. This game features anime cutscenes, radio-chatter, and the inclusion of some of the first super weapons seen in the series, as well as some local multiplayer.

Ace Combat 5
The fifth game, and perhaps one of the longest. Released between 2004 and 2005, for the PS2 system. The game takes place in a different continent from AC04 and the earlier games, so the asteroid impacts dont really matter here. This game features more interactivity with Wing-men, but with only YES/NO answers. This game also introduces small, skip-able segments where the player can land on aircraft carriers, airstrips, and refuel in mid-air. This game also introduces improvements to the player's map, and improved targeting systems.

Ace Combat Zero

This is the sixth game released in the series, but is actually a prequel to Ace Combat 5. Came out between 2005 and 2006, for the PS2. The game takes place in mostly the same continent as AC5, but it revolves around the Belkan War that happened around 10-15 years before the events of AC5. The game features new Aces that are actually a large part of the game's storyline, and the player's actions through the game change dialogue and what Aces the player faces throughout the game. This game is also the only Ace Combat game to feature live-action cutscenes. The previous YES/NO interactivity with Wing-men is removed in this game, but the rest of the options for Wing-men (such as giving orders) are still available.

Ace Combat 6
The sixth game in the game's universe, released in 2007, only for the Xbox 360. The game features new online features, such as team deathmatch modes and co-op modes, along with downloadable missions and aircraft skins. Received mixed reviews from fans and critics alike. The game's story takes place close to Ace Combat 5's events, but no relation is made between the two, although AC6 is set in a country close to one of the countries that AC5's story revolves around.

Ace Combat: Assault Horizon
A spin-off of sorts, hated by fans of the previous games for how much the gameplay and storylines deviate from the typical Ace Combat style. Released on the PS3, Xbox 360, and recently, the PC. The gameplay is much changed from the gameplay of typical Ace Combat games, and features, simpler, combat. The game features missions where the player uses different aircraft, like an AC-130 and an attack helicopter. The story is set in the real world, yet still features some fantasy elements. The game also has multiplayer, improving on what multiplayer the game had in AC6.

Other Games
Ace Combat X: Skies of Deception
Ace Combat Xi: Skies of Incursion
Ace Combat: Joint Assault
Ace Combat: Assault Horizon Legacy

Ace Combat Infinity
Namco Bandai has announced Ace Combat Infinity, an all-new download-only entry in the flight combat series releasing exclusively on PlayStation 3 on September 25, 2013.Though details on Infinity are still scarce,  Namco Bandai has told VideoGamer.com that the game will be available to download exclusively via PlayStation Network with more details to follow in the coming weeks.

Games / Crysis 1 Sandbox 2 won't start
« on: October 31, 2012, 08:51:55 PM »
I wanted to fool about with the editor on my new computer, so I re-installed Crysis via steam, and ended up having to get this fix for 64-bit systems. Now when I try to run Editor.exe, I get this error message. The normal game works though.

Anyone know of a way to fix this?

EDIT: Someone said to disable UAC, and that didn't work. I got the same message.

Games / APB: Reloaded - Spooky Scary Halloween
« on: October 28, 2012, 01:05:09 AM »

Shamelessly copy and pasted topic.

Whats APB?

APB is a GTA Styled cops and robbers MMO set in the crime-ridden city of San Paro. There are two factions, Criminals and Enforcers. Criminals are pretty self-explanatory, they do bad stuff. Enforcers are basically vigilantes who try to stop the Criminals from doing said bad stuff.

The game also has amazing customization.

Is actually it F2P?

Yes, to a degree. You can play and enjoy the game without paying at all. However premium accounts are available, and so are premium weapons. Neither of these proved a huge advantage luckily, and many of the Premium weapons are the same as normal ones, just with a few mods that you can also get without paying. The premium account alone doesn't provide combat benefits, it just increases your rewards at the end of a mission and allows you to buy things from the Armas Marketplace for 20% off.

How good is the customization?

It's pretty damn good. There's lots of clothes, and a pretty nice selection of cars. You can design your own symbols and put them whereever you want on your car, yourself, your clothes. It's pretty neat. You can also make a custom tune for your enemies to hear once you kill them.

Any Tips?

I'll add some of my own and if anyone here has some good ones I'll add them

Don't rush in unless it is 100% nessissary, you will likely be gunned down.

-Use Cover.
-Switch the cameras position to see around corners.
-Don't use the same route multiple times.
-Coordinate attacks with your team.
-Don't try to take on a dump truck by ramming it, you won't win.
-If the enemy has an RPG, don't use a car within a certain distance. That distance depends on the situation and what the current objective is. Also, don't take a long route with lots of walls. The splash damage will cause you nothing but grief. Take the shortest route to get up to them without them getting a chance to attack. If they DO manage to get a rocket out, if they don't kill you, they will ALWAYS switch to their secondary weapon. Use this to your advantage, because the secondary weapon they'll be using most likely won't be enough to bring you down. -Jokey365

Most recently, they've added the still W.I.P. Asylum district, and there's a Halloween thing going on.

My friend and I realized that you could mimic a "BLOODY SCREEN SO REAL" like effect with the vignette and thought of an addon where the vignette became more red the more that you got hurt once you were below 60 or so health. I think that this would be possible, but I'm not too sure.

Help / Blockland occasionally crashed when AltTabbing
« on: June 27, 2012, 12:37:18 AM »
When I AltTab to start music or some other stuff, Blockland crashes at some point. This doesn't happen all the time though, and how much I AltTab doesn't seem to have any effect.

I checked the console.log and everything seems normal, no errors before I crash. The game just stops responding.

HACKENSACK — A man who stabbed himself repeatedly in front of police — and then threw his skin and intestines at them — remains in critical condition Tuesday morning, police said.

Police said they got a call at 10 p.m. Sunday from someone saying Wayne Carter, 43, had a knife and was threatening to hurt himself.

When police officers arrived at the Clay Street home, they kicked in a door to his room, which had been blocked with furniture, said Lt. John Heinemann.

Carter was in the corner of the room with a knife in his hand, and he stood up, he yelled at police while stabbing himself all over his body. Officers noticed that his intestines were protruding from a wound in his abdomen, Heinemann said. Carter allegedly threw some of his skin and intestines at officers as they tried to enter the room, Heinemann said.

The officers ordered him to drop the 12-inch kitchen knife, but he didn’t. Carter is accused of swinging the knife at officers, police said. The officers sprayed two cans of pepper spray at the man without any effect.

The officers retreated and called the Bergen County SWAT Team, which helped subdue Carter so he could be taken to Hackensack University Medical Center.

He underwent emergency surgery, and remained in critical condition Tuesday. Carter had a history of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest and has been taken to the hospital for psychiatric reasons in the past, Heinemann said.

About
Quote
Ace Combat is a hybrid arcade-simulation flight action video game series featuring 12 games,[1] published by the Japanese company Namco Bandai Games, and produced by Project Aces, an internal development team. The series emphasizes fast-paced action and dramatic plots, and has established itself as one of the most successful arcade flight action franchises.

Most games of the series take place in the same fictionalized world populated with fictional countries with details loosely based on real-life location, events, and wars. One of the main selling points of the series is the ability to pilot a range of aircraft that include accurate or slightly modified representations of present day military aircraft, prototypes that never saw actual battle, and completely fictional boss-type superweapons. Longtime fans of the series are rewarded with small hints of the continuity between the games, as some characters and events are referenced from one game to another.
