"5 Ways to Stop Trolls From Killing the Internet"

Funny, when 'trolling' comes to my mind, I'm instantly reminded of the people in this community.

This may very well be the thing to send shivers down the spines of anyone who has ever said "this is the internet" or "the internet is serious business" as an excuse to do anything.

Faces, Decals, Prints / Hezkore's Cool Face
« on: October 31, 2008, 07:43:30 PM »
Please note: This face is NOT mine. It was the work of Hezkore, who had given me permission to upload it. Do not credit me for this.

The reason I'm uploading this is because I truly believe this was one of the best faces to grace Blockland. It was originally posted very early in retail's cycle. Unfortunately, it was uploaded to BJayWay which went down very shortly after. What's more is that the original author of the face never came back to post on these boards.

Almost three months ago just after version 9 came out, I came across Hezkore in game by chance, and asked him if he was ever going to come back and post his face again. Apparently he doesn't even have the face anymore, and never thought much of it to begin with.

So there you have it. Apparently I'm(and anyone else is) allowed to do whatever with it. I would've done this almost three months ago then, but I was lazy.

I've taken the liberty of cleaning the image up a little(by somewhat removing the white outlines that are visible in game), giving it an appropriate file name(The original I had was called hezkore31431710206), and making a thumbnail to go with it.

Here's a preview image.

Gallery / Blockscape Angel Island
« on: September 30, 2008, 04:56:07 AM »
This was my contribution to Badspot's older blockscape build from a month ago, Angel Island. It took 28 hours to build from start to finish, which some of that time was spent making giant references and measurements so that the island would both look somewhat natural, and have it match the crater under it. Sans the most under 4x4 bricks and the water brick, it's supposed to fit perfectly into the ground. The build also doubles as a mini game, which I originally wanted to make it a lights out game using the super emeralds, but because of problems with dealing with schedule quota hit, I've ended up making it a treasure hunt game instead.

Under shots of the island. Also reelshiny has a special interest for the WinRAR file archiver and data compression program.

Over shots. It may be hard to see from this point of view as the island seems to blend in with all of the other terrain.

A close up view of the master emerald shrine.

A jump pad which allows access to the island for no-jet players. Also I've found that the island is barely low enough that you can free fall from it to the nearest ground. And I do mean barely, as in a brick or two higher would cause you to take fall damage.

The super emeralds are lit up! What does that indicate?

I'm sure near everyone here won't remember or ever recall this build I used to make in RTB, as most people here today weren't around at the time, and it was only ever posted on the Return to Blockland forum's old and now removed gallery section with minimal publicity...

...Well since then, I've went and made a new version of it...

This lighthouse scene, along with the cliffs, took ten times longer than any other part of the build.

The whole thing currently clocks at 21115 bricks, every part of it was built by me alone. Three of the buildings seen here are not enterable, two of them have half interiors, and the lighthouse has a full staircase to the top. None of the new giant cubes or water block compatibility, as I began this long before v9 was even announced.

This is currently a work in progress, but don't expect an update any time soon, as I don't know when I'll get back to this. I've actually had it in this state at around the time I posted ACM City. Also I doubt I'll ever fully complete this the way I want to, whever through just getting tried of it, or reaching the hard brick limit.

General Discussion / People who port other's works to v9
« on: August 21, 2008, 12:16:50 PM »
Man. Why are people currently porting other people's add-ons and the like since v9 came out? Don't do it if there's even a remote chance that the original author will come back and do it himself, unless you have a sign of approval from that author.

My concern is that the person who repackages said add-on either breaks or does it incompetently, gives it an improper file name, or just plain does it differently from how the original author would've done it himself.

Faces, Decals, Prints / ACM's Decals (Newly added 08/08/2008)
« on: August 09, 2008, 10:13:02 AM »
These are all of the decals and faces I've released throughout Blockland's history. Now repackaged for use in v9.

In this thread I will be submitting all of my generic themed chest and face decals. Should I ever release more decals, I will be updating each decal pack respectively.

Newly added decals are: HawaiianShirt1, Hawaiian Shirt2, Plane, Shirt.

Gallery / ACM City
« on: June 27, 2008, 01:21:54 AM »
This is a project of mine that I've started over a year ago shortly after Blockland went retail. I originally began working on this shortly after my blupo build, and I've been working on and (mostly)off of this for over a year now, casually adding onto it. I've always wanted to fill an entire world(Or in this case, the bedroom.) with nothing but lego builds, and ever since Blockland was able to reasonably sustain tens of thousands of bricks I was finally able to do that. This ultimately still isn't finished, but truth be told, I can't imagine myself wanting to fill the entire floor. I have no desire to continue working on this, and I'm more interested in other projects now. I think this is complete enough as it is.

So here is ACM City. My sole attempt at a generic town/city build. Currently clocked at 16478 bricks. Everything seen here was built by me. As a result everything takes much longer, however it lets me make the town as a whole look more uniform. Rather than one giant build, this can be seen as a collection of smaller builds I've done over the year. Some of the buildings are remakes of ones I've originally mae on other people's servers. All but one have full interior lighting. All but a couple have full interior furnishing. I've tried putting detail into the roads, such as pavements, lampposts, and the odd props. I will say this, half of the buildings in this take heavy influence from official lego sets, such as those that can be found on peeron. Especially the non-prefab doors and windows. There are also a couple of influences from things that other people have made. Due to how early I made this the current average floor hight is base 7, compared to what I prefer now is base 8. Because this is ultimately a generic city build, I'm sure it isn't that amazing anymore. It probably would've been back in early 2007, but now it's more 'been there, done that'.

Because of how many little things there are in this, it would take too many screenshots to show you everything such as interiors. So I'm uploading the current save file for you to to explore yourself. I'm only going to briefly cover the externals of the town in this thread.

Extract into your main Blockland directory, and it will do the rest.
Just a note, certain parts of this build use Wedge's Cityscape lights and my own telephone sound pack.

Overview shots of the town.

The following buildings shown in chronological order:
A modern themed office building. Focus was mostly put on the exterior, as the interior is pretty ugly and lacks furnishing.

The reason I made this park was so that I could make use of the music brick while I still thought it was a cool gimmick. Peaceful ambiance can be heard while in the park area. What's evident to how old this is is how the paths and pond are made out of large square plates.

Police department.

ACM City's resident chapel. It's pretty small for how tall it is. I literally left this unfinished for months and built four other buildings in that time because I didn't have any blueprint idea for it, so often I wouldn't know how to continue building it. I'm still not completely satisfied with how it came out.

A couple of generic down town buildings. The yellow one is a clothes store, the blue one is a pub.

The lonely fire department, next to an ACM City standard issue tunnel which leads to that unknown void beyond the bedroom which no one has even seen. Damn those road workers for closing it down!

BLP: Blockland Petrol.

Primary school.

Primary school that violates child safety laws by having basketball hoops that are more than 4 feet high.

A sweet shop across the road, next to another ACM City standard issue 1500megawatt heavy duty super colliding super button tunnel.

"Dammit! When is that bus arriving?!"

And lastly, a bit of DOF screenshot eye candy.

General Discussion / Blocko vs. Bloko
« on: June 25, 2008, 03:43:11 AM »
I thought this would be a funny and interesting question for the community. I don't know if this was brought up before or not, but if it was, please forgive me. When refering to the current theme of Blockland I've seen various people either call it "Blocko"(with a ck), or "Bloko"(with just a k). Which name do you personally use the most, or always? And are there any specific reasons?

I personally have used bloko(with just a k) because of how in the old v0002 of Blockland the studs on bricks had the writing "Bloko", giving me an indication of canon.

Music / Telephone Ambiance Pack
« on: May 08, 2008, 02:28:47 AM »

Ususally I wouldn't upload anything unless I think there's any use for it. Well, I personally have found a use for this, and using search has yeilded me no results on anyone else on this forum submitting telephone sounds, so here's my submittion.

These are three different short telephone ringing noises which I've got off various royalty free sound sites then slightly modified them to best fit into the game. I've actually done these quite a long time ago, but they were never submitted due to my laziness. These sounds can be very annoying to listen to constantly loop, but are best used to add ambiance to existing builds with... phone booths... or whatever.

Extract the file into your main Blockland folder, and it will do the rest.

Drama / Why Blockland is not a completely original creation
« on: January 05, 2008, 09:30:38 AM »
I would like to introduce you all to a bit of my childhood...

If any of you were around during the late 90s, and had any sort of interest or obsession with LEGO Media, a range of highly mediocre Lego themed computer games, then chances are that you might've heard of Lego Creator.

Similar to Blockland, lego Creator was a virtual sandbox lego building game that was actually endorsed by Lego(*gasp* Shock horror!). Back in 1998, this game was Blockland to me before Blockland even existed! It was Blockland played on an old 233MHz computer. Although it was only single player, while almost everthing about it is now done better in Blockland(Including the god awful minifigure and vehicle controls.), and looking back at it now, the game contained more than a fair share of bugs. There are however a few notable things the game still currently has over Blockland, such as being able to build your own working vehicles, and bricks that moved or rotated.

The purpose of this thread is to show many people among here who beleve Blockland to be a completely original creation that something similar has infact been done before by none other than Lego. Now perhaps knowledge of this will get anyone who has suggested that Badspot should sue Lego for 'stealing his idea' with the upcoming LEGO Universe to finaly shut up.

Gallery / ACM's House Build: Retail edition(With Trader's doors)
« on: September 22, 2007, 09:08:41 AM »
Yes... I know... It's a house build, and we all know how unoriginal house builds are. I kind of hate myself for making this too. But I made this in Trader's server, and I thought that some of you would liked to have seen a build that uses his doors(Even though there aren't that many doors being used in this.).

When I heard Trader announce that he was going to open up his doors testing server, I couldn't help but want to show up, having never actually tried out the doors before myself. But since he also mentioned wanting to see some building talent, I thought that if I was going to go, I'ld might as well make myself usefull and build something worth showing. However, because the server opened up at midnight where I am, I had to pick something that I could make easily. If you were around during the Return to Blockland days, then you might be familiar with this build. Depending on whever you've seen it in the gallery or not. This is basically the retail version of it. There are a few notable differences though. First off is the lack of editor wand artifacts, obviously. Another is that each room now has it's own paint job. Also there are fewer interior props, although that's due to time constraints.

Now what's mine here is the house, and only the roads surrounding it. Everything else in the server was of other's work, and the rest of the roads were made/duplicated by the admins.

Overview front. I forgot to had the black strips that were on the sides of the roof.

Overview back.

The front of the house.

My first use of a door was for the front door.

The main hallway. Originally I would've wanted to have wooden doors placed in the frames . But I wasn't sure if it would be too many doors, and whever it would slow down the server or not. Plus, I didn't want to go through the trouble of having an admin place each one. Now that I think of it though, I probably should've asked, just to see the potential in the use of doors.

Living room.

Kitchen.

Upstairs hallway.

Bathroom.

Bedroom. Which the only thing I've included in this room was the bed and nothing else.

A view of the backyard. Where you can see more use of Trader's doors.

A closer view of the gate, which uses two screen doors. It's a bit simplistic though in my opinion. I'm sure that some of the better builders out there would probably have made a better gate than me.

One more door was used for the shed. Now that I think of it, a barn door would probably have been better for it.

Please leave a comment or a rating, or at least something! I had to give up my diurnal sleeping hours to make this!

Gallery / ACM's Fishing Lake
« on: June 14, 2007, 02:07:52 AM »
I made this build in USSR Primary, after finaly thinking of something that falls under the server's 'ye olde theme.

Although I think that it's pretty well made, I can't say that I'm proud of it in an originality sense. As much of the ideas and aspects were taken from other USSR buildings that were in the server(Forgive me.).

Overview 1

Overview 2.

Parked boat, and entrance to the fishing cabin.

First interior shot of the fishing cabin.

Second interior shot of the fishing cabin.

The other side of the fishing cabin, and it's outside decks.

Stone path leading further away from the cabin decks.

Frog sitting on a rock.

The other stone path which leads into the other direction.

This path just keeps going...

The front of the sleeping cabin.

The other side of the sleeping cabin.

First interior shot of the sleeping cabin.

Second interior shot of the sleeping cabin, and a hole that leads to the attic.

Now this isn't really anything new, considering that every other building in the server has their own hoard.

Me going fishing!

Comments and ratings, blah blah...

Help / White outlines surrounding most custom decals.
« on: May 10, 2007, 10:29:04 AM »
This is something that has been bothering me with custom decal creation, although, I don't know it it's only me that gets this. Just to let you know, I use Photoshop 7 for any decal creation I might do. And have texture, particle, and shadow quality set to 'Best' in game(If that helps at all.).

While I was making my jacket decal and testing it, I've noticed the appearance of ugly white lines outlining my decal,  which are more visible in darker maps. I've also noticed the same thing in almost all custom chest and face decals made by other people. Although I've managed to address the problem with my decal by creating a new layer under the existing one, filling it black, setting it to 1% opacity, then merging it with the existing layer(For me it seemed to get rid of them.).

But what I don't get is that all of the official decals, and the more recent ones from Badspot don't seem to have this problem at all, and he didn't seem to have to use the same method I had to use. Seriously I'ld like to know, how does Badspot make his decals without getting any white outlines around them? Is another program other than Photoshop 7 needed? Or again, is this just a graphical error that only happens to me, while everyone else sees custom decals perfectly?

And help would be appreciated.

Gallery / BLOKO Blupo
« on: March 04, 2007, 04:45:19 PM »
Hey everyone, it's that watered down version of Blockland made for pre-schoolers which we all know and love, it's BLOKO Blupo! Every childs favorite toy(NOT!).

A spoof to LEGO Duplo, although I realise that the size of the bricks I've made can be compared more to the Quatro series.

Overview, front.

Overview, back.

On top of the playing table. It's obvious what the build on the right is, the one on the left is just a random build.

Viewing from the floor, and a closer view of the wheeled brick.

Caterpillar, enough said.

I've had to google for images of a duplo box in order to get an idea of what one looks like, although I know that the end result doesn't look exactly like one. And you have no idea how much of a douche I've felt like for googling duplo.

Left over bricks inside the box.

The lid to the box. You can actually crawl into the space under the handles to look inside.

And lastly, a funny coincidence when I loaded the build again. No extra bricks were added or removed to produce these results.

Please leave a rating of 0 to 1...out of 10.
