Off Topic / Computer hardware problem...?

'Ello again guys. I just have a small question about my computer's hardware, as i have been encountering a problem with it lately.


I recently bought my computer, just about 4 days ago from Newegg, and it started off beautifully, and still is working wonders. There's just one problem.

My computer runs fine from start-up, and goes for about 5+ hours running normally. But after a certain amount of time, strange artifacts start appearing all over my screen, and it gets to be quite an annoyance. The only way i can get rid of them is to shut down my computer for a while, and then they go away for another short period of time.

So this is what i ask you, what could be causing it? It isn't the monitor, or the cable. I've narrowed it down to either the GPU, or the PSU, but i just need to know which is causing it. The GPU isn't overheating, because it's running at a nice 50 C when i looked, while the artifacts are on the screen. I also have updated the drivers, and even re-seated the GPU, which hasn't fixed it.

So what could be the problem? Just ask for more details if you need them.

So earlier on, this laptop's battery finally got destroyed, but it's still on warranty.

I dont know why the battery failed, but it seems that it's too damaged to let my computer run without being plugged in. I think the cells burned out.

But anyways, i went online with dell customer service, like i would get any help there.

Pretty much, they lead me into a large circle, telling me to repeat what i had done earlier about even seeing if the battery failed. Of course it did, why would i be here?

And so after 30 minutes of personal information and running around in circles, the guy finally decides to put me on the phone and check the bios.

He calls me, and what i hear, i was expecting all along, an indian man who can hardly even speak english, with such a horribly noisy background. I end up just hanging up after he says hello because i didnt feel like dealing with it.

So what do i do? Buy another $400 battery, which is more than the laptop's cost itself, or argue for the warranty claim which lasts only another 2 months?

This happens to me, i get into game that i havent played in a while, like skyrim or minecraft, and i start having really freaky dreams about them for a night or two...

so yeah, i've finally hit the sad realization sthat i am bored and have completely nothing to do.

i need a new game to play :/


I kinda like those games where you can shape worlds, MMO or not, and i have already played minecraft, wurm online, and haven and hearth, but i also like other MMOs as well, but please, no mmos where its all "OLOLOLOL GRINDBOTS LOLOLOLOL I HAVE TO GRIND TO DO ANYTHING IN THIS GAME"

Does anyone have any suggestions?


P.S. my computer isnt the best, so nothin gthat has a lot of system intensive requirements

Off Topic / I hate how slow my computer is.

Alright, im going to make this a short rant.



So last night, i felt i would install the settlers 6 demo to see if the game would work on my computer, and first of all, getting it to download the website took about an hour.


Next, i tried to run the EXE, devestated to see that it froze my computer, so i waited 5 minutes, still frozen.

It turns out that it took around 10 minutes for my computer to become responsive again, upon then, it started extracting the installer, and then, my whole computer froze, and i had to shut it down.


I tried this 3 times, and every time it did the same thing, 10 minute freeze wait, followed by crash.

ON the fourth time, i finally got the installer to work, and it got on my computer.

THe time was 3 o clock when it finished, and i went to bed, to play in the morning.

I wake up in the morning to find that my computer login file was corrupt, so i had to use system restore to bring it back to my last working restore point.


So yeah, all that hard work i did last night was lost.




Im going to ask this: Why does it take 15 loving minutes to open the installer?
Its a 1.3GB installer, and it freezes the open window when i double click it to run it.


EDIT: No, this isnt about pirating, its about installing the Settlers 6 Demo
