Help / Having a problem joining my friend's game

Hi, I've been having a really bad problem recently with my friend as we play "Blockland".
He's running a server with me and 3 other friends, however, they join completely fine, though I can't ever join.
It's always stuck on "Connecting to (ip) with password". I've restarted Blockland numerous times, restarted my computer, and even reinstalled the game. Nothing works. The only we got it working was when the first time this happened, they were playing Pirates, then we switched over to Bedroom to make some sort of village-type thing. Only then did it work. I can find no fixes.
Some useful info, too: He is not port forwarding or anything. He's just starting it like you would if a game had dedicated servers, and it works. I can join every other server, but just not his. All of them are using Windows 10, so maybe that's my problem? I really don't understand. I wanna get back into this game but I seriously just wish it wasn't so finnicky to deal with to the point where I have to deal with the headache of computer maintenance.
