Quote
zyzzyva, a genus of tropical weevils native to South America. The word replaces “zythum” — an ancient Egyptian malt beer — as the OED’s final entry.

The name was apparently coined by the U.S. entomologist Thomas Lincoln Casey, who described it in a 1922 work, the OED said.

“In any case, zyzzyva owes much of its currency in English to its notoriety as the last entry in various dictionaries, the ranks of which now include the OED,” it said.

Step one: Locate your car.

Step two: Get stuck before you even leave.

Step three: wait 24 hours for the snow to melt. Only to find there is still ice on the ground.

Step four: Apply hot water and bird seed around the rear tires. Keep spinning until you gain traction and almost launch your car into the fence in front of you.

Step five: Drive down the road and locate an empty field.

Step six: Enter the field and scrape the stuff out of your car because it's so dirt nasty low.

Step seven: Do responsible adult things until you decide its time to leave because you just ran over a piece of hard snow and ripped the handbrake cable out from under the car.

Well I mean I didn't really remove them, they removed themselves. You see about a week ago I was driving home from work in my project car and I notice the thing is backfiring loud as stuff. So I get home, look under the car and see this.

That is the exhaust pipe, broken and dragging the ground. Now a normal person with a normal car would just take it to an exhaust shop or order new pipes off the internet. But my car is a bit obscure and taking it to a shop would just end up with "what the forget is that" or "we don't work on those types of cars" and I can't just order a system over the internet because nobody makes an exhaust for my car because the 1976 model year cars had a special manifold that mounted differently. So this is where the fun starts. Later that night at like 11pm I'm in the shower and I get and Epiphany. "I should just run a forgetin' cherrybomb out the side." So after planing it out for an entire week and actually putting legit thought into something for the first time in my life. I set off Saturday for the local junkyard, took the manifold and downpipe off of a 1978 car, took a trip to autozone and bought the cheapest exhaust stuff they had, and threw some half-assed welds on the pipe I have now made a custom exhaust system that is extremely loud and illegal.

that's what the old exhaust looked like, old, rusty, and full of stuff that makes it quiet-ish.
and this is the new one.

it's as straight and well-built as a catholic priest. But forget it, the real beauty is this baboon ass red glasspack hanging out the side.

Just look at that THING it's forgetin' AMAZING.
Video of it it in action ↓

It's a bit louder than i expected, and way buzzier than I would like, but damn if it doesn't make some beautiful noises when I let off of the gas.
Of course eventually I'm going to shell out the money for a properly built exhaust that will let me travel through the ghetto without getting dirty looks and glocks in my face. But for now I'm just going to see how long it takes for me to get a noise violation ticket, or until my car gets impounded because honestly I'm not sure how this rolling pile of rust has license plates on it.

Off Topic / blogland: I went on an adventure to a junkyard
« on: October 15, 2016, 06:39:06 PM »
I was going to do this last weekend but the hurricane kind of messed those plans up.

Like any great adventure I started by spending almost $40 filling up the Exxon Valdez

Then me and a friend drove almost 2 hours to get a turn signal for this broke ass pile

Which we took, among some other stuff.

This car was complete as stuff, I've never seen one with all of the factory fuel injection and smog equipment on it.
I also snagged this nice ass factory radio.

Not that I really care about music in that car, I'd just prefer not having a giant gaping hole in the dash.

There was some neat ass stuff in there among the normal cars and stuff.

Like the remains of a volkswagen golf.

Also I just need to say that holy stuff full size luxury cars at 75mph, like damn I thought I was on a cloud.
A triumph spitfire, You could see right through that car, it was crazy af.

And an MG midget.

Afterwards we went to five guys and my friend was like "are they cheap?" I was like "I think so" then we walked in and saw it was like $8 for a cheese burger and we both realized the mistake we made but we ate anyway because forget our wallets.

All in all I took like 7 things off of that car and it only cost $22. Which would of cost at least triple if I had bought off of ebay or somewhere because all the parts I got are hard as stuff to find.

I had fun tho, 10/10 would go again, mainly because I loving FORGOT TO GET SOME stuff off of the car that I needed.

I saw this and figured this place could use some lighthearted news that didn't involve people getting murdered for once.

Alex Dobson posted videos of the boy in sole control of a modified sports car at their home in Queensland.

The videos, which went viral, show smoke pouring off the rear tyres and the stationary vehicle surging in the driveway as the boy grips the wheel.

Police are investigating if charges can be laid since the incident apparently took place on private property.

Mr Dobson's car - his "pride and joy" - was seized by police on 24 September and child protection officers have been notified.

He told the Nine Network that he had been taking his son to burnout competitions since he was born.

"He knows a hell of lot for a five-year-old child," Mr Dobson said.

"He's not your average five-year-old,"

video in question

It's worth noting that stuff like this is very deeply rooted in Australian car culture

Tbh I'm not even sure why I'm welding the door since I'm probably going to buy a whole used door anyway.

(click it)
I'm also not using a very good welder. If I had a better one they would look like this

« on: March 26, 2016, 06:46:29 PM »
My brain must not fuction right. Because when my giant green pusillanimous individual-slaying machine of a car started dying I had a choice. Junk it and get a normal pansy ass car or see what the forget is wrong with it and fix it. Of course like most people I took the logical choice and decided to fix it. Myself. In my parent's garage. That is currently full of my other junk. So yeah of course I decide to not buy the parts I need but rather buy another car of the exact same year and then take the parts off of that one and put it on my other one.
I'm quite the odd person.

But I love being odd.

Oh yeah I forgot to mention it was three hours one way to the sellers house. Yeah I'm mentally insane
