Off Topic / The Kid! (SMB Warp Zone)
« on: July 26, 2013, 07:14:46 PM »
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bTPT2kv6PXw.
(Video example, not me playing)

I've had SMB for 3 years now and I've played it sparsely during that time frame, but still managed to beat the light world once before.  However, I just started about a week ago again with no save file and I'm trying to 100% the game (so far 100% forest, hospital, salt factory, hell, and currently on rapture).  I just beat this warp zone in one sitting but I remember trying it a year or two ago.  Probably the hardest part of the game I've played.  If you've beat it or attempted it you know damn well how difficult this warp zone is.

Modification Help / Truly "Hiding" the Tool Box
« on: July 19, 2013, 06:52:42 PM »
By default as most know you can check the "Hide Tool Box" option in Blockland's options.  However, the tool box still opens once you press q to use/equip a weapon.

To cut to the chase, I've been thinking of making a deathmatching compilation video and I want the screen to essentially only show my crosshair and the killfeed, if possible (basically Script_FilmMode but with those two elements still showing).  I don't know if you can only show kills in the chat box, but it would be nice if you could.  If not, hiding the blue names that appear while players are typing would be nice, too (both not being shown would be the best case scenario).  In addition, hiding stuff like T+T's ammo display and other stuff like that on weapons would be nice.

I talked to Chrono a bit about this yesterday but he's having some computer issues and said he would need Blockland installed and the script would "require work."  If anyone could whip this up it would be great.  Thanks.

General Discussion / Manty's Rocketball
« on: May 06, 2013, 06:13:25 PM »

Manty's back from school, and he's here to bless us with cool servers and pretty pictures.

Introduction:

Welcome to rocket basketball, one of the many games inspired by something from TF2/some other game.  Although the whole CTF and basketball court part of this (which is pretty much everything) is ripped from TF2's basketball game, rocket launcher deathmatches have been around Blockland for a long time now, and there have been some creative games made with them (D3ATH's rooftops TDM, for example).

Deathmatches involving heavy use of the rocket launcher and rocket jumping probably involve as much skill as you can get out of a Blockland mini-game.  This is exactly why I like them and host them.  You probably aren't going to be good at this game.  But there is good news -- you can get better by playing it more.

The Elements of Ballin':

Q: What is ballin', Mr. Manty?
A: Go read a dictionary or something, kid.

Q: Why are there no basketballs in this game?
A: Because rocket launchers are 100x cooler.

Q: Can we get to the Elements of Ballin' now Manty?
A: I thought you'd never ask.

            The Rocket Launcher
  • Your only weapon.
  • Direct damage: 30.
  • Radius damage: 100.
  • Q: What does this all mean, Manty?
A: It means that this makes my topic look cooler.
It means you + a direct hit from a rocket = dead.

            The Court
  • The battlefield.
  • Q: But what am I supposed to do?  We don't have basketballs!
A: Good observation.  You pick that flag up in the center and become the basketball.
  • Q: How the hell do I get up there!?
A: If you press space 0.5 seconds after a jump, you can double jump.
It's a secret function Badspot implemented into the game recently.

            The Rules
  • 1 flag capture wins the game.  Kills don't decide who wins/loses.
  • Formatting would usually be 2v2 but I'll probaby do both 3v3 and 4v4 (4v4 will be hectic, though).
  • Side note: The game uses a slight edit of the no-jet player so you can airstrafe more.  Thanks Manty!

Epilogue:

It's fun to overdo stuff, especially when it looks nice.  Realistically this is a very simple server and shouldn't be hard to understand.  The main reason I made this topic was to drag the attention of the typical Blockland roleplayer and get him to join a manly server.  That and not many people are joining my server and I'm not too fond of that.

The server will be up when I want it to be.  I don't have a dedicated server, but I might buy one for the summer for use of this server and others that I host.  Look forward to that.  I'll probably post in the thread when the server's up.  Most likely times will be around 5 - 6 and 9 - 11 EST.

It will be named Rocket Basketball, Rocketball, Ballin', or CTF_Ballin'.  Or something else.

Suggestions & Requests / Default Burn Damage
« on: March 08, 2013, 02:51:23 AM »

Basically, an "on fire" status for players who have made contact with lava or other flammable sources.

This is a very simple concept that is surprisingly not default.  Fire would obviously be extinguished by water and water bricks.  Should also probably include an event that sets players on fire and extinguishes them.  This would also save add-on developers the trouble of creating their own separate burning effects and simply use the default.  Two examples are Iban's and Bushido's molotov roostertails.

Other side notes include the possibility of healing items such as the medpack or pill extinguishing you and how explosions would come into play.  I know someone made a script where explosions had a chance to set you on fire but I don't think that would be necessary (would also get annoying).  There's not much else to say, as I stated this is pretty simple and self-explanatory.

General Discussion / Blockland Halloween
« on: October 31, 2011, 01:01:48 PM »

Quickly-drawn drawing because I wanted to do something for my 1000th post.  And...

1000th post.  Happy Halloween, Blockland Forums.

Discuss the "prepper," the new bricks, or whatever's relative to Halloween and Blockland.  Oh, and if you didn't dress up on Blockland for Halloween you're a loser.  This year I decided I would be...

VEGETO.  And that's Piderman right next to me.

Off Topic / Scored some JB stickers at Wal-Mart
« on: August 06, 2011, 08:04:41 PM »
As some may know, I went back to the U.S. for two weeks and got back about a week ago.  I hadn't been in a Wal-Mart for over 4 years before then.  We walked around a bit and I found some awesome stickers to put on my binder for school; I'm pretty sure I'm going to be the most popular kid this school year.  My JB sticker pack has 18 stickers front and back per-page, and I have 3 pages of them <3.

Discuss your undying love for our hero, Justin Bieber.

« on: July 29, 2011, 06:16:33 PM »
OFF-TOPIC IS MY FAVORITE BLOG.

I got 4gb RAM in this laptop now and I'm about to board my airplane at Dulles.  Back to Germany!
Discuss RAM and airplane flights, I guess.  I'll be back here in about...  8 hours?

Off Topic / College Campuses: Should you visit them?
« on: July 08, 2011, 12:31:25 PM »
Question to those who are in college/have visited multiple colleges.  My parents seem to think that I'm being stupid for not wanting to visit any colleges, but I don't have any desire to.  I've visited Penn State (my dad went there) and I thought it was pretty cool but it's not like I was that interested or anything.  I always expected to just graduate from high school and go to Penn State, graduate, have fun, and move on with my life with whatever I want to major/study in.

I guess visiting a college campus and listening to a tour guide for 2 hours sounds fun to some people, but I guess I could use some convincing.

Any tips?

Suggestions & Requests / TDM: Late Join
« on: April 16, 2011, 11:58:07 AM »
Yeah, as the title says, a late join option would be absolutely amazing if it were added into TDM.  ZAPT has one that it uses in its various gamemodes, and it works wonderfully.  I actually have asked Space Guy for this before but he stated that he "didn't like it when it happened to him in TF2" so he therefore "wouldn't let it happen in Blockland."  Space Guy is a great guy, and he's always been extremely nice towards me, but this approach to such an issue is ridiculous.

I don't really think a list of examples would be necessary to show the usefulness of this option.  My Four Corners game -- a game that's pretty unique on it's own -- would work much better with this option as an example.  I've had to forcekill people who join late and it gets annoying to constantly watch who joins and chase the people who join for more lives.

List of things that could possibly be included:
  • RTB pref to turn it on/off
  • RTB pref for # of time available before late-joiners get killed/not allowed to spawn

General Discussion / Manty's Brick Textures
« on: April 14, 2011, 07:39:58 PM »
Yo, what's good.  Manty here with some brand-spankin' new brick textures.

I spent about 4 hours in Photoshop today making these.  The goal of these textures is to keep the default texture look while removing the white lines/spots and making them compatible with dark environments.  I made these textures because I was tired of the ones already out; in my opinion all of them have serious flaws.  However, I did get persmission from Squideey to use his brickRAMP textures (the texture was already good and I felt it didn't need to be re-made).

Download process:
  • Unzip the folder (Ignore the __MACOSX file)
  • Copy/Move the files to Blockland/base/data/shapes
  • You might want to back-up your old textures, too, since these will overwrite them

Gallery / Miga's Birthday Cake
« on: March 05, 2011, 04:10:53 PM »
Blocktim and I decided to make a birthday cake for Miga!  We're tired of seeing the generic birthday cake picture on the forums!

Took 3 tries to actually finish because of various reasons.
  • Ike The Generic decided to be a douche at S4L's server and destroy it without warning.
  • My server crashed when I was hosting it.
  • We successfully rebuilt it on Blocktim's server!

Drak and I were bored, and I felt like I needed to refresh on my Premiere Pro abilities.  Idea/storyline was thought up by Drak in approximately 15 seconds, while I spent ages trying to get this to export in higher quality.
Unfortunately, the best I could get was 480p even when I was exporting with 1080p settings  :panda:

EDIT: New link, and now I have 720p (much better)

Help / Error creating font size (Mac)
« on: December 18, 2010, 07:22:57 AM »
This has been happening for a couple of versions now, but it's become increasingly more annoying.  I'm not sure what is at fault for this error, but font sizes/different fonts worked fine for me a couple versions ago.  When I try to change the font size in my welcome message, this is what happens:

The original message was: CONSOLE: This build was made by Manty, yo.

This is the message that appears in the console.

I put this as a mac issue because I've tested this with people using Windows, and they see the message.  I'm expecting people to say "well obviously the font doesn't exist on your machine!," but doesn't the "yo." at the end prove that I do have the font?  I don't understand why this hasn't been working for a couple versions when it was working fine a few versions ago.
