Creativity / [What is Gaming Life] - Youtube Shenanigans
« on: June 22, 2013, 12:43:38 PM »
Currently creating this topic on a laptop with no mouse so it'll improve once I'm back on my main computer. ANYWAYS:

What Is Gaming Life - or [WIGL] as we conveniently refer to it - is a Youtube channel shared between Dread, Rhypht and I where we upload gameplay footage and other similar things in no particular orderly or thematic fashion. At least, that's what it is currently. We started the channel not too long ago because we kept saying to ourselves "we should record the stupid stuff we do and put it on Youtube." So, after months of saying this without actually doing anything, we took the step forward and made...whatever the hell it is you see here.

Probably not the best way to present ourselves, agreed. However, we hope that by having more people actually see our videos, we can develop some sort of direction that we'd like to take the channel in, based on what people like and don't like and what everyone wants to see. Of course, as long as it still fits within our own personal style of recording and such.

Currently, we have videos of the following gameplay:
Grand Theft Auto IV
Garry's Mod
Blockland
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive
Battlefield 3
Minecraft
Phantasy Star Online 2
Sniper Elite: national socialist Zombie Army
Slender
More to come!

Not too much information to start with, but again, I don't have much with me in terms of versatility computer-wise for the next few days so once I'm back at home base I'll flesh this topic out some more to make it nicer to look at. In the meantime, in case you didn't realize the image at the top is a link to the channel:
Here you go.

Feedback is always greatly appreciated, criticism is what can help us shape this into something more interesting.
And of course I'm going to plug the obligatory: like, subscribe, tell ya friends, and whatever else Youtube does nowadays with their stuffty layouts.

« on: November 04, 2010, 12:30:09 AM »
So me and a friend were discussing our potential futures in the field of game development, here's what we planned out:

The Fantastical Ace: online content distribution network
The Fantastical Ace: where people can play games and chat
The Fantastical Ace: we'll call it like
PerfectedPhenomenon: Called vapor
The Fantastical Ace: smoke
The Fantastical Ace: VAPOR
The Fantastical Ace: YES
PerfectedPhenomenon: YES
PerfectedPhenomenon: With our Vapor distribution, what will our company be?
The Fantastical Ace: what
The Fantastical Ace: we can make games
PerfectedPhenomenon: What will our company be called
The Fantastical Ace: i already have an idea
PerfectedPhenomenon: Ooh, tell
The Fantastical Ace: the company will be called Faucet
The Fantastical Ace: i told you already
PerfectedPhenomenon: oh
The Fantastical Ace: i have an idea for a game

The Fantastical Ace: what will make ours so different
PerfectedPhenomenon: is a total useless cunt for no reason
The Fantastical Ace: what will make ours stand out from any other plain old space shootemup

The Fantastical Ace: wait...
The Fantastical Ace: angle...
The Fantastical Ace: OP
PerfectedPhenomenon: top down

The Fantastical Ace: Extraterrestrial Horde
The Fantastical Ace: :O
PerfectedPhenomenon: :O

The Fantastical Ace: to reach a wider audience
The Fantastical Ace: hmm
The Fantastical Ace: whats popular these days
PerfectedPhenomenon: Zombie game?
The Fantastical Ace: ah yes
The Fantastical Ace: we'd need to make it interesting enough
The Fantastical Ace: i like that team of 4 idea
PerfectedPhenomenon: Yea
PerfectedPhenomenon: not top down here though
The Fantastical Ace: yeah
The Fantastical Ace: cant overuse that
PerfectedPhenomenon: put the player in their shoes
The Fantastical Ace: survivors of an outbreak, perhaps?
PerfectedPhenomenon: I like
The Fantastical Ace: hmm
PerfectedPhenomenon: All different personas
The Fantastical Ace: yes
The Fantastical Ace: diversity
The Fantastical Ace: political correctness
PerfectedPhenomenon: An starfish, a goof, a wise guy, and a bitch
The Fantastical Ace: sounds good
PerfectedPhenomenon: Makes a good team
The Fantastical Ace: yeah
The Fantastical Ace: what would make it interesting though
The Fantastical Ace: ?
PerfectedPhenomenon: Take place in the middle of nowhere
The Fantastical Ace: it cant just be any plain old zombie game
PerfectedPhenomenon: Somewhere you wouldn't expect
The Fantastical Ace: hmmm
The Fantastical Ace: somewhere that hits close to home
The Fantastical Ace: so to speak
PerfectedPhenomenon: Hmm

Games / Star Ruler - An indie space RTS...in space!
« on: September 20, 2010, 07:00:58 PM »

Clicky.

Warning: the following is directly copied from the steam page...

Take command of a vast interstellar empire and safeguard your species from total extinction in a procedurally generated 3D galaxy (with the option to flatten it) from 1 System to 10,000+! Prove your species' ingenuity through a deep and intricate combat system where anything (from individual components on ships to the stars themselves) is a target of opportunity.

Twist other Empires into submitting to your galaxy-class wit with diplomacy and wheel-and-deal your way to supremacy.

Research new kinds of weapons, engines, shields, and more, all of which retain their unique benefits as the game progresses, with a research web whose contents are shuffled every game at your option.

Exploit interstellar phenomena such as asteroid belts and stars and exploit them for yourself or destroy them to deny your foes. Create and destroy new worlds through advanced technological research.

Match your strategy against up to 10 other opponents (online or LAN-linked). Save the game when dawn breaks and boot it back up at dusk. It isn't over until you say it is! Drop in and drop out at any point; disconnecting players will not disrupt the game!

Your weapons, your ships, your rules: Almost the entire game can be modified through Notepad! Easily add new models and particle effects to the game with “out-of-the-box” developer tools. Create new weapons in seconds; create new AIs through scripts! The Galaxy is yours!

A Masterpiece in Progress: As time wears on, new gameplay features, art, and GUI improvements will be added into the game through patches as time and money allows. Race Creation; Non-Player Factions; Terraforming; more Ship Sets; Deeper Diplomacy; Deep Planetary Invasion; these features and much, much more to come!

There's more information on the steam page for it but I'm seriously considering buying it. It's an indie game, which is interesting. Has anyone else played this?

Oh also it's 20% off for now.

Modification Help / Collision meshes and Shadows
« on: August 20, 2010, 12:31:17 AM »
I've searched everywhere but I can't find a solution to this problem.

I want to create a shadow on my vehicle that doesn't use the collision mesh, but the actual vehicle itself. I've seen plenty of other vehicles pull this off, and I have no idea how to go about doing it.

I'm using Milkshape. Using the regular DTS exporter does it just fine, but then flat-shading won't work. Using the DTSPlus exporter does flat-shading, but the shadow is of the collision mesh. How do I get both flat-shading and a non-collision mesh shadow?

Clan Discussion / [BAN] - Blockland Alliance Navy: Later, buddy.
« on: May 28, 2010, 06:21:09 PM »

The Schrodinger's Cat of Blockland clans.

-Two years ago, Ace and Ghoul decided to put together a clan dedicated to the construction of space-themed builds. After approximately five months of activity, the clan reached an inactive state. In January of 2009, the clan was reactivated. This second wind was rather brief, only a month long to be exact, due to Ghoul taking a break from Blockland. Over a year later, we've come to the decision to give the clan one last run. Effective now, the Blockland Alliance Navy is active again. Of course, we anticipate that the clan will inevitably die out again at some point in the future. But for now, let's give it one more go!

The Blockland Alliance Navy is a clan centered around builds of the space/futuristic variety. It's primary leaders are Ghoul and Ace. We search for the best of the best in regards to building and eventing. The ranking system has been thrown out, as it was useless. In it's place we have divided the membership sorting and application process into two divisions.
This is explained further down the page.

Oh, and the clan tag is simply BAN.

  • December 5, 2010 - Reactor Worker has been admitted to the Building Division. Welcome!
  • November 24, 2010 - Monkeyboy has been admitted to the Building Division.
  • November 21, 2010 - TheArmyGuy has been removed from the clan becaGUYS UGN IS TOTALLY COOL
  • September 12, 2010 - Xerces is being moved into leadership to replace Ace, Ace is going dormant.

Help / Spawn Points
« on: January 10, 2010, 04:38:06 PM »
I've been having some trouble today with player spawns. Usually everyone would spawn just fine where they were supposed to, on their checkpoints or player spawn bricks. When I changed the map, the game started spawning everyone in mid-air off in some random point on the map during a minigame rather than the spawn bricks I had set up. "Use Spawn Bricks" was checked off, and I had not downloaded anything new between the time this was working and the time it was not. I tried this with many other maps and it did the same thing every time.

Help / Unable to host a server.
« on: December 23, 2009, 07:50:58 PM »
I've forwarded my ports correctly, and everything matches up the way it should, but people are still unable to connect to my server. I've tried rebooting my router numerous times, rebooting my computer, checking the firewall settings, and everything is as it should be but nobody can connect.

Off Topic / Need some technical support...
« on: November 01, 2009, 04:22:18 PM »
I recently bought the game Red Faction: Guerrilla. Excited to play the game, I put it into my computer last night and began to install it. The installation halted halfway through, and I figured "Oh, well it will probably take a while, it's a big game." I come back 2 hours later, and it's in the same position. I cancel the installer and give it another try. Same thing happens.

I have retried it at least five times and it hangs at some random point in the installation.
Anyone have any idea why this could be happening?

I saw this thing a long time ago and I've recently been considering buying one.

http://www.n52te.com/

It's basically a game controller. You can customize the keys on it to do whatever and it has a thumbpad and such. Does anyone have one of these, and if so, should I buy one? Is it worth the money?
