A link to the blog post.

Valve executive Erik Johnson says that they'll soon be allowing "everything onto the Steam Store, except for things that we decide are illegal, or straight up trolling." He also says that changes shouldn't be expected until they have the tools set up and in compliance with various laws.

A few excerpts from the blog post:
So if you don't want to see anime games on your Store, you'll be able to make that choice. If you want more options to control exactly what kinds of games your kids see when they browse the Store, you'll be able to do that. And it's not just players that need better tools either - developers who build controversial content shouldn't have to deal with harassment because their game exists, and we'll be building tools and options to support them too.

So what does this mean? It means that the Steam Store is going to contain something that you hate, and don't think should exist. Unless you don't have any opinions, that's guaranteed to happen. But you're also going to see something on the Store that you believe should be there, and some other people will hate it and want it not to exist.

It also means that the games we allow onto the Store will not be a reflection of Valve’s values, beyond a simple belief that you all have the right to create & consume the content you choose. The two points above apply to all of us at Valve as well. If you see something on Steam that you think should not exist, it's almost certain that someone at Valve is right there with you.

To be explicit about that - if we allow your game onto the Store, it does not mean we approve or agree with anything you're trying to say with it. If you're a developer of offensive games, this isn't us siding with you against all the people you're offending. There will be people throughout the Steam community who hate your games, and hope you fail to find an audience, and there will be people here at Valve who feel exactly the same way. However, offending someone shouldn't take away your game's voice. We believe you should be able to express yourself like everyone else, and to find others who want to play your game. But that's it.

In the short term, we won't be making significant changes to what's arriving on Steam until we've finished some of the tools we've described in this post. As we've hopefully managed to convey, navigating these issues is messy and complicated. Countries and societies change their laws and cultural norms over time. We'll be working on this for the foreseeable future, both in terms of what products we're allowing, what guidelines we communicate, and the tools we're providing to developers and players.

Off Topic / New headset recommendations
« on: March 20, 2016, 05:22:38 AM »

that there is a logitech afterglow and it is a loving nightmare
i got one about a year ago to replace my old headset that had a cable chewed by my pet, and it was a pretty meh headset despite the good reviews i looked at while in the store

by far the worst part of it was that the right cup chafed against my earlobe, to the point where it was actively merging with my skin or something and was painful to remove
it has now chafed so hard that it's bored a crater into my earlobe

rant aside, need a new headset to replace it. might order one if it is durable (one of the reasons i bought the afterglow) but otherwise i was just gonna walk to target and see whats in stock

Games / SS13 Goonstation Code Released
« on: March 07, 2016, 01:35:55 AM »

someone screwed up and the coders for goonstation released the code
pretty big shame. the admins are gonna have a loving hell of a time dealing with the richards that have the recipe for quark gluon plasma now

on a happier note, we can host this now
who wants to screw around in a bl server?

unfortunately I can't forward my ports because the router takes like 2 hours to update when i try it so if anyone wants to host i've got the .dmb file compiled and ready
edit: the coders probably wouldn't like it if goonstation lookalikes showed up so please dont make it public if you're gonna try it
hi clownfish

« on: January 31, 2016, 11:13:54 PM »
Hello. Kane Werdinand, or as you know him on this forum, "kanew2000," has passed away due to creating a video game. I am his mother, father, brother, sister, best friend, regular friend, and dog. I am posting this game in his behalf. It's what he would've wanted.

Download it here. We hereby sincerely apologize.

Not gonna lie, it's pretty gross. So here's a virustotal link to make sure your computer is okay. Not you. You're going to go into cardiac arrest. townysis/1454299891/

Welcome, Commander, to the X-Com Project.
Earth has changed.

Twenty years have passed since world leaders offered an unconditional surrender to alien forces and XCOM, the planet's last line of defense, was left decimated and scattered. Now the aliens rule Earth, building shining cities that promise a brilliant future for humanity on the surface, while concealing a sinister agenda below and eliminating all who dissent from their new order.Only those who live at the edges of the world have a margin of freedom. Here, a force gathers once again to stand up for humanity. Always on the run, the remnant XCOM forces must find a way to rise from the ashes, expose the insidious truth behind the occupation, and eliminate the alien threat once and for all.

Creativity / RTRTB or Return to Banrey 2
« on: May 02, 2015, 03:27:39 PM »
Return to Banrey 2 is the sequel to Return to Banrey.
Return to Banrey was a 5 star game loved by millions worldwide, met with recognition the likes of which include exclusively a 4 page topic and a singular forum post.
Return to Banrey 2 is still in development, but hey, it's playable. If you have ideas, post them and I'll consider them!
Return to Banrey 2 so far has the test character, Wario, as the only playable character. However, you will be able to choose between Raven Simone, Jimmy Neutron, and Wario. Bill Cosby will be there too
Virustotal link if you want it.
Download Wario10 here!
Rightclicking switches the weapons. Space lets you blast, which also disables your weapon. The main menu can be controlled with W and S, with space to select.

TLDR: Return to Banrey 2 is being developed, give me suggestions and try out the game!

EDIT: I'm not sure if it works on 32 bit computers. If someone could check that, that'd be fantastic.

Games / Haven and Hearth - Not enough LP
« on: November 08, 2014, 04:51:35 AM »

Click that stuff

I stole this from other threads that also stole this cause forget that stuff

Haven & Hearth is a MMORPG (Massive Multiplayer Online Roleplaying Game) set in a fictional world loosely inspired by Slavic and Germanic myth and legend. The game sets itself apart from other games in the genre in its aim to provide players with an interactive, affectable and mutable game world, which can be permanently and fundamentally changed and affected through actions undertaken by the players. Our fundamental goal with Haven & Hearth is to create a game in which player choices have permanent and/or lasting effects and, thus, providing said players with a meaningful and fun gaming experience.

Players start the game surrounded by a vast and somewhat unforgiving wilderness, with only the most basic tools of survival at their disposal. The use of fire is a thematic focal point of the game's mythos, and an early and important task will be the simple lighting of one. As the first hearth fires disperse the darkness of the surrounding wilderness, more pressing questions will present themselves to the players: Who are they? Where are they? And, most importantly, where are they going? From this point on, players will have to blaze trails of their own into the unknown, the wilderness and the future, and explore and affect the world of Haven & Hearth using only their own best judgment and a chipped stone axe. Trust us, the stone axe is the stuff.

As players progress, they will be able to acquire new skills and abilities, allowing them to perform a variety of tasks—such as the claiming of land, the construction of buildings and the cultivation of crops—each step forward making the basic task of survival somewhat easier. Having progressed far enough, players will, in time, be able to organize themselves into societies, from simple tribes and villages, progressing through republics, nation states and, ultimately, empires.

TLDR By which that means it is all lies the game is an interactive waiting room

Some stuff to look at with eyeballs

What is Risk of Rain?

Quote from: Risk of Rain About Page
Risk of Rain is an action platformer/adventure game with randomized elements. While we don’t want to spoil the story, we can let a few things through! The game is set in the distant future, where space transportation is common. Space trains carry passengers and goods all across space. A particular space train, however, had some very special cargo. Through a series of unfortunate events, this space train gets shot out of orbit and crash lands on a mysterious planet.. with one survivor.

Risk of Rain can also be played multiplayer, with unlimited player counts, I believe. The game's a bit bugged, but the devs, Hopoo Games, are working on it.
