Help / Saving blocks on dedicated

Just wanted to ask, how does one save blocks on dedicated to be sure they saved them all? I know you can just save them, but it will only save blocks you saw, and it's possible you may miss some.

There must be some command to make sure it just saves all the blocks. If there is, please tell me.

Server will be up most of the time (it's dedicated). I cannot have it up 24/7, but will have it up as often as possible.

Special Event Sun, July 1st at 6PM:
The server will be hosted on July 1st at 6PM, and we will all play the game. If you are interested, and plan on being there, please make a post, and I'll add you to the list of people that will be there. I will be there as well, so it will be moderated. Lets have fun, killing each other and invading the castle.

Game objectives:

Attackers: Your goal is to infiltrate the castle. You do so by capturing the control points. First you take over the bridge, this allows entry into the castle. If you control the bridge, the defenders cannot close the castle gate. Once inside, you can then take control over the courtyard. If you control the courtyard, you may now resurrect inside the courtyard. If you lose control of the courtyard, you will once again resurrect all the way back in the starting cave. Once you control the courtyard, you can also go inside the castle. Just go inside and go to the throne room. Don't worry, it's a straight shot, and all other doors will not permit you access just to avoid confusion (there's no reason the attackers need to go anywhere else in the castle). If you capture the throne, you win the round. However, at any time, if you lose control over the courtyard, even if you are in the throne room, you will be booted outside of the castle, and must retake the courtyard.

Defenders: Your objective is to defend the castle from the attackers. If they control the bridge, you will no longer be able to open or close the gate (it will remain open). Take back control of the bridge in order to close the gate. If the attackers take over the courtyard, you will no longer be able to resurrect inside the castle, and will resurrect outside in the houses. Try not to lose the courtyard, because it is a vital control point. If the attackers manage to get to the throne room, and capture it, the round will end. So your top priorities are the throne room, and the courtyard. The lowest priority is the bridge, but this will prevent any new attackers from getting into the castle (pending you are in control of the courtyard as well).

Overall (all players): Each team will start off with 3 basic weapons (sword, spear, bow). If you really explore, you might just come across a few spells hidden around the area outside and inside the castle (as well as one spell hidden in enemy base). And if you explore enough, you might just find the not really all that hidden, Master Sword. All spells hidden in both the enemy base and castle, can also be found outside. Some spells can only be found outside. Be sure to explore to find them!

Rules:
Do not cheat. Spawn camping is especially forbidden.

Do not ask to be admin on the server. If you really want to be admin, make a post here with a good reason why you feel you deserve to be admin. Please note that I will only accept a few people, and I will do so at my own discretion.

Do not harass the other players, or admins. You will be banned for doing so.

If you see anyone offending the rules, and there aren't any admins online, please take a screenshot and provide it in this post. Action will only be taken if there is convincing evidence that a rule was violated.

Version notes:
1.55:
Added a player health bar so people can tell how much health they have, and so that they know when they have fully healed by taking food.

1.5:
Took out a few spells, and left the ones that aren't exploitable (wind and ice would allow entrance to anywhere you can imagine).

Made most food you see around the build heal the player for 5 health (each food item will disappear for 20 secs)

Made all powerful items respawn every 2 mins to prevent too many people from getting them at once. 1 earth spell is ok, but not 20 people with earth..

Made signs in the castle to clearly show where you are, and how to get to the main exit. Just follow the exit signs to get out.

All weapons have been removed, and players now start with all 3 basic weapons, so that they don't have to try to find something in order to get to the objective. Spells are still hidden though. Every spell found in the castle and the one spell in the enemy base, can also be found outside. And the one spell (earth) is not in either base. That should be balanced good enough.


Administration will be needed, however, at the time being, no admins will be added until the player base is actually something. Currently, there aren't enough people showing up. Once, or if ever, it gets popular enough, then I will consider allowing people to apply.

If you have any suggestions on improving the game, and keeping balance, please feel free to post them here. If I get enough suggestions of a similar nature, I will do my best to update and improve the game. As well as, any ideas that were given to me, will be credited in this post.

I would like some help on to knowing what I can host without crashing. Below I will list my PC and internet specs, and further down I will list what I actually plan to host.

Anyway, onto the PC and internet specs:

Internet:


PC (Main): AMD AthlonX2 3.0 GHZ Dual core processor
                 4GB DDR3 (1333)

PC (Old): AMD Athlon2 2.4GHZ Dual core processor
               4GB DDR3 (800)

I plan to host a server with about 50k bricks, and somewhat nasty amount of events. It's a challenge, but not just jumping over blocks challenge. You have to solve puzzles, clear areas with automated events, as well as encounter a few timed events. It also saves progress, so the loading and saving variables probably will add up when a ton of players are in the file.

And for the record, I'm not interested in any hosting services. I'm sure if there are any problems, it will be most likely be on the CPU end, and that I can fix very easily but just getting a new processor that can handle more. However, I'd rather avoid this if possible, as there really is no other reason for me to upgrade my computer or build a new one, and it would just feel silly to do so for hosting a server. As well as, I would love to be able to still use my main computer, and just fire up the old one to host something.

So, please just tell me a rough estimate what the limitations would be for my setup. I'm hoping 30 players, but if more, then I'd really love to know, but I don't want to risk pissing people off seeing as this is a challenge and it would really suck to just watch it crash when you just got past a really tough section.

General Discussion / Well... I'm trying to come back...

The problem though is, I have a rare case in which my Vid card has no real support for this game (Geforce 8500). I've done my research and it's a very weird problem. It has to do with Vista's nasty support for OpenGL. I can run the game, but it is guaranteed it will crash at a random moment, only the game crashes though. Its only older games or backwater games like this one (I mean no offense). And I don't know about you, but I can't stand building something huge, then losing it because this nasty situation went into effect.

Before any elitist buttheaded type try to talk stuff about maybe my computer sucks.. no... It does not and no other games cause this problem on my computer. Like I said, I did my research and from what I've read, I could have a computer 4 times the power of this one, and the same problem will occur. The only hope is if somebody makes drivers for Geforce considering older and backwater games, but that is NEVER going to happen. The newer games run fine, and never had any problems and never will. The simplest solution would be to install XP and run it to play this game, however at the moment that is not an option.

So, I may still play the game, but don't expect to see me on all the time, because it will eventually piss me off if I keep losing the game, seeing as the crashes are completely random and unpredictable. I could go a day without crashing at all, or have 5 crashes in 1 hour. My main solution around this is to run a dedi then join it and the server will never go down, just me crashing then I can come right back, but that is a huge pain especially if the server filled up and I can't come back.

Anyway, someday when I have lots of time on my hands, I will try to solve this problem. Otherwise, I'll try to show up every now and then if time permits it. This is just to show why I have given up on this game in the past. It's a very annoying problem.

Also, do not try to post me "solutions" because you think you know the answer. There is No answer and anyone trying to tell me there is, just is showing me that they cannot read my post. Don't worry I don't hate everyone, otherwise I wouldn't be trying to come back now would I? I only hate some people, and they know who they are.

Help / Need help with changes now that I'm back.

OK, now that I'm back, and the game has changed since the last two versions I need help.

first off:

None of my maps work, they seem to stop at

unable to load detail1

I have no idea why its asking for that, as the file doesn't exist and when I changed it to the terrain texture I would think it is, it still gives the error. So clearly something in the game and the way it is has been changed and I need to make this change to my maps, so I ask to please tell me what this is so I can get them working.

I would also like to know any other changes that I will need to know about. I haven't played since version 10.

Part of why I just don't show up here that often, is because I just do too many hobbies and other stuff, that things get dropped, and I'd rather drop things that I don't do as much, than ones that I do. I draw, I make music, and I play DDR (really hardcore about it). Those 3 things just can't be dropped, so the rest goes usually unless I am in a period where I don't do anything, but it's rare. I'll try my best to show up in this game again, but I first must get it updated again, because it looks like a few more versions came out since my last visit to it.

OK, since this is a creativity thread, it will be about all things I create, which is not just drawing, but music as well. For starters I will just link my latest songs, and later I will post some new art I have been working on once I get a few drawings colored.

Fair warning: My music is very strange and not like anything else, so if you are too geared towards any genre, you may end up not liking it.

Another Warning: My art usually involves drawing women, usually without clothes (I won't show the bad stuff here yet), or something bizarre like drawing a clown on a bus (I may do this again cuz that was so fun).

Help / Need help with making multiple Mini-Games

OK, so here's my situation. I've been currently working on a challenge build, but the problem is, people have to join the mini to play it, but I don't want to be in this Mini game myself. I also want it to be the option to join or leave the mini game so that if people want to just free build they can. So.. I need to know how to make multiple mini-games so that I can continue to work on my challenge, as well as let others play it as I work on it, but not be forced to do so. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Help / Help with console commands (plus weird sitation on crashes)

OK. lets just say, the game runs on my computer, but for some weird reason it crashes every now and then (only the display of the game itself). I found a way around this by using a dedicated server so that only I crash but the server stays up. First off, the crash is due to a Driver incompatibility from Vista and my Video card, and this problem cannot be avoided unless Vista releases a patch, which I highly doubt because torque engine is not a newer game. I researched the problem and its how vista has a timeout feature and if the video display does not respond within so much time, it automatically resets (thus causing Blockland to crash). If I turn the feature off, it will completely kill everything, so that's a big no. And if I set the timeout delay to any other time, it just still does it but takes longer to respond. The crashes are very rare, but when they do happen it sucks, and its why I'm resorting to running dedicated servers and then just going to them.

Anyway, now that you know my situation, you will understand why I'm asking how to do the next things.

I want to know how to do the following via console.

Kick a random player (in the event server is full and I need to get back on)
Load blocks
Save blocks
