MXR ARACHINA

A portable, self sufficient mobile station for ambitious missions into hostile environments. Can function as a lander, a floating station, an orbital base, or a subterranean base. Good for exploration, colonization, or even as a mobile nano-nation in an otherwise uninhabitable venue.

- CREDITS -

- Remousamavi -
Main construction, layout, relay loops, general idea.

- Xalos -
For a CSG contribution that allowed me to trace a near-perfect brick sphere. Without this, the curvature of this station would have been nigh impossible. And also for various other mathematical and logical contributions.

A cutaway projection of Arachina. Here you can see the general deck layout and see where everything in the station is located. Notice the two decks near the bottom which have a half-deck of sorts: This is considered a single deck.

Arachina has three layered lights which can, by internal controls, change colors or be turned off. The station's windows can all seal with the touch of a single button, which is preferable for burying it as a subterranean base. The station can also float.

Add-Ons / LangScripts Chat Client
« on: August 22, 2016, 01:16:19 PM »

First up, you may or may not have been to my last letter-replacement add-on page, https://forum.blockland.us/index.php?topic=301168.0. Since then I've been building a bunch of other scripts, so Xalos built a framework, Client_LangScripts, with which one can have as many of these scripts as they want without worrying about them glitching on top of one another. Below are the currently completed scripts, as well as the LangScripts client. You'll need the client in order for any of them to work.

Note: If you have the original Klingon Client and don't want any more, you're good. If you want to install more scripts, you should probably replace the Klingon client with the LangScript version as well as installing the LangScript client itself.

CREDITS: Xalos, for doing all the scripting, making poly-letter glyphs and flexible rulesets possible. I did the actual glyphs (Well, others invented the scripts, I just remade them into Blockland).

DOWNLOAD THIS FIRST!
You need this to make anything below actually work.

Client_LangScripts

Klingon, as seen in my last add-on. There are, of course, no clientside changes.
KLI: --- :KLX
LangScript_Klingon

Daedric, from the Elder Scrolls (Dragontongue script still in the works, folks!)
DAE: --- :DAX
LangScript_Daedric

Aurekbesh. Theoretically, if you can read this, you can read anything in the Star Wars universe. Theoretically.
ARB: --- :ARX
LangScript_Aurekbesh

Mando'a, another Star Wars script from a little known language from the planet Mandelore.
MDO: --- :MDX
LangScript_Mando'a

Srilermorna, a lovely arabesque script for Lojban, the artist's conlang where Esperanto is the logician's.
LSR: --- :LSX
LangScript_Srilermorna

More to come, please stay tuned...

Add-Ons / Klingon For Blockland
« on: August 10, 2016, 01:48:14 AM »

KLINGON FOR BLOCKLAND

This project, incorperating the piqaD script into Blockland chat, began as an experiment in bringing other scripts into Blockland chat. I sought to learn how to use TorqueScript, and to that end, Xalos began teaching me how to use and understand it. We collaborated on one of my languages, which has a fairly quirky syllabic script requiring two letters per glyph. After I had mastered that, I (With help working out problems with Xalos) built another one; this time, I did the Klingon script, piqaD, and made it into a client-side add-on :D
Basically, this add-on takes roman characters and turns it into Klingon. It would be terribly inconvenient if it just did everything you typed, so it uses "KLI:" to start and ":KLX" to stop. Below is a visual demonstration of exactly what it does:

By changing your clan-tags to KLI: and :KLX you can make your name also be in Klingon, but not yellow like shown above; I don't know how to make icons be different colors, so I'd have to make another glyphs folder with yellowed versions of each glyph and then work the script to tell the name from the message. Maybe I'll do that one day...

Now, to business. The download link is below, but first, some notes:

1 - I discourage using this on just any server. Anyone who has this add-on will see someone type , but if they don't it will look like KLI:tlhIngan Hol:KLX. I therefore recommend this for regulars who know the admins/host, as opposed to using it on community servers and scaring the hell out of the host and admins ("Hey, is this guy hacking us?").
2 - If you don't know any Klingon and/or aren't interested in the language, this isn't for you. Just typing "Willoughby wallaby yankee doodle abra kadabra" will not give you what you want (Well, it'll translate it to Klingon, but you'll probably wind up with a bunch of missing characters with [ ]'s around them.) If you want it to work, you have to know what Klingon in its romanized form looks like. For example, "DaHjaj Duypu'qoqlI'mo' rojmab qIqangbe' Hod" - if you recognize this, you'll have no problem with this add-on. If not, surf on by.

3 - Maybe you know perfect Klingon, but what you typed spit out the wrong character or gave you a letter in [ ]'s? Well, that wasn't you being bad at Klingon, you just encountered a glitch. If this does happen, feel free to send me, Remousamavi, a PM with the sentence and what showed up in the [ ]'s.

And now, the actual download:

https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B1FATwWnOl42bzEyUFdRQUg5c1k

Do not extract the .zip. Instead, click the download button in the top right (A little picture of a down-arrow with a line under it), and put the downloaded .zip into your Add-Ons folder. Once it's done, the KLI: / :KLX trick should give you fresh Klingon characters (But remember, those who don't have it just see the KLI:texttexttext:KLX.

Gallery / MXR Hellbender - Interdimensional Multicraft
« on: May 16, 2016, 01:05:13 AM »

MXR HELLBENDER

The MXR "Saucer" class Hellbender is an ambitious, multi-functional and versatile multicraft; primarily a spacecraft, but also capable of less common sci-fi actions such as time-travel, inter-dimensional travel, teleportation, intercausality navigation, withstanding extreme conditions, and extraordinarily long distances on intergalactic level. The ship is primarily used for reconnaissance, exploration, and once in a while as an ambassador craft or a priority express courier craft. The ship is not equipped with any weapons; some of its functions can be used as defense arrays, but the ship is not explicitly intended for combat; rather, it is more easily capable of evading aggressive assailants.

Some notes on the build itself: There's not a named brick present anywhere in the ship - it was all done with relays. Even the control that manages the skids and the other that manages the side-faring jet covers are linked by sequences of hull-embedded relays. Also, I have Xalos to thank for his sphere-making script, and making the perfect oblate spheroid shape this ship is. I just had to structurize the existing hull and optimize some areas for decks.

  • 1  -  The ship's class name "Saucer" is, of course, a misnomer. So is the classic term "Flying Saucer" from which I got that pseudonym, which might describe any alien or secret human-built ship vaguely shaped like a saucer.

  • 2  -  Here is the ship seen from the other side, as well as with its landing skids deployed and its utility vents and pilot and copilots' hyperspace covers retracted, revealing the windshields underneath. The ball-thing seen between the windows is visible even when fully retracted.

  • 3  -  A closer look at the tripod arrangement of skids. Each skid has a light at where it meets the hull, and each light is a different color; if in minimal visibility environments, it is helpful to know which skid you're at, and thus which way a given airlock or external component is.

  • 4  -  Here's that ball thing seen in Picture 2; the Pinball, which is its own similarly versatile craft. This pinball has its own range of capabilities, a collapsible airlock, two bunks, a bathroom, and a computer system - among a bunch of other complex equipment. Its skids also have colored lights, for the same reason Hellbender itself does.

  • 1  -  Now we come to the ship's interior, starting with B-deck, or the middle deck. Here is the entry lock. The actual airlock is the small dark area seen at the end, and doesn't include the seats. It can double as a landing port, and all airlocks in the ship have a lockdown mode, effectively turning the lock into more wall. The outside is flush with the ship, making it both hidden and secure.

  • 2  -  A lot had to be crammed into the ship, so there was little room for hallways. This little saucer packs three whole decks and has to have room for a bunch of impressively and cleverly compacted drives, so needless to say the corridors are exceptionally cramped. Seen here is a through-way with a combination person's status board (other side of the middle island wall), computer console, and bathroom entrance.

  • 3  -  A slightly more spacious corridor - in this case, the Pinball Hangar's entry hub. Here, people can mill around while the pilots aboard Pinball prepare for launch. Yet to be added here are seats, mainly because I'm still working out how the hell to cram six seats into that tiny space. To help reduce claustrophobia for guests, there are windows looking into the larger classroom and stairwells.

  • 4  -  The Pinball itself. This versatile craft, small enough to fit into a large bedroom, manages to have two bunks, pilot and copilots' seats and controls, a drive access in the floor, a computer bank in the ceiling, and even a bathroom. The bathroom even has a shower mode (though the cramped space makes that a bit hard to get used to). The Pinball has its own flush-hulled door and extendable airlock system; what you see in the picture is Hellbender's pinball docking tube.

  • 1  -  The Pinball craft is difficult to fly, primarily because it is as much hyperspace and interdimensional travel capable as Hellbender itself. Seen here is the training room; both for Pinball pilot training and Hellbender pilot training.

  • 2  -  The classroom, or lecture hall, can be used as a briefing or debriefing room, group meeting room, classroom, or even a secure conference room for people from off-ship while Hellbender is landed. Here, ship boarders can learn about Hellbender's many functions, hyperspace travel, Pinball control mechanics, and anything else one might use a classroom for.

  • 3  -  The ship has three windows. Two of them are on the bridge and are sealed while in hyperspace to prevent brain vegetation while in hyperspace. The third is on the bottom deck, looking into the pinball hangar, and is only opened if the Pinball is docked, which blocks its view of the void beyond, or the ship is in normal space. This, in conjunction with prolonged action, can make problems for morale and mental well being. Seen in Picture 3 is Psychomedical, where therapy can be sought for those in need, and medication in extreme cases.

  • 4  -  One of the nine crew cabins, each with double bunks. The bunks have their own soundproof curtains, TVs and temperature controls, so one can enjoy solitude and peaceful sleep - an essential component in the journey. The stateroom does not have its own bathroom, but does have ample storage; the crew section does has three bathrooms, each shower equipped.

  • 1  -  Now we take a look at the top deck, or A-Deck. This deck is accessible straight ahead from and directly adjacent to the docking room, seen on the first interior picture.

  • 2  -  The Computer core is an essential component to hyperspace navigation, in addition to more conventional functions such as autopilot. Seen here is the access component for maintenance and manual operation, but the computer can be accessed from any panel in the ship for regular use.

  • 3  -  The Communications and Navigations room, for assistance in traveling through dimensional rifts, wormholes, time, and hyperspace when you can't safely open your window. With the comm software, you can talk directly to other ships even when you or the other ship are in hyperspace.

  • 4  -  The bridge deck. The captain will spend most of his or her time here in the seat seen. Not seen, but to the left, are the two pilots' seats. The ship's maneuvering, governing, and the captain's communications take place here, and the captain's quarters, B-deck staircase, and comm room are all directly adjacent. The Pinball's hangar actually cut into the upper and lower decks, as seen to the left, so this area was not easy to build.

  • 1  -  A direct view from the pilot's seat. Here's where you fly the ship, and where the window is opaque wall when shut. Not seen here is the holoprojected screen for hyperspace travel. Seen here are the screens to the side, also used for hyperspace travel.

  • 2  -  The captain's quarters. Built to my own specifications, and I like bright stuff.

  • 3  -  The guest quarters. Built to more accommodating and friendlier standards, and with its own bathroom and isolated library seen to the left - more luxurious than the captain's quarters!

  • 4  -  The conference room. The classroom a deck below can also be used for this, but this conference room ensures that private discussions can be held that the bridge personnel don't want the rest of the ship to know ("Hey, we're flying into a black hole, should we tell everyone?"). Similarly, a heated argument can occur safely in here without it effecting the morale downstairs.

  • 1  -  Now we've seen A-Deck and B-Deck, it's time to take a look at the ship's bottom deck, C-Deck. This is the only deck where nobody sleeps during down-time, and is a work-shift exclusive deck. The screen seen in this stairwell shows shift schedules; you look at it on the way down to see where you're wanted for that day - though sometimes the bridge guys haven't decided, in which case you mill around near your usual area of work.

  • 2  -  The Pinball Control Room, where Pinball expeditions can be monitored remotely. This room also serves as a mill-about room for those not currently busy but stationed near their post. The window seen above the controls can only be opened when the Hellbender is not in hyperspace or similar, or when the Pinball is docked.

  • 3  -  The Lab is so important it has its own airlock. This area doubles as the ship's engineering access room. Seen to the left are drive mod controls and readouts pipe access junctions, and the entrance to the ship's equivalent of a jefferies tube leading between all three decks. Seen to the right is a storage set, desk, microscopes, transparent box, and computer screen.

  • 4  -  The airlock to the lab. Seen just behind the table to the left is a cryostasis pod, which can double as a medical pod. Not seen is the normal hospital bed because it's tucked inside the same chamber as the cryopod, and the other pipe junction which I didn't get a shot at.

  • 1  -  If you take a look back at the exterior shots, you'll find one of them, in addition to the ball-thing that we now know is Pinball, there are two smaller protrusions near the bottom - we are now inside one of them, the EVA pod. It's a one-person pod with the ability to stay together and keep the occupant alive in alternate dimensions, extreme environments, and hyperspace, but doesn't have the ability to shift between such states - if you're in hyperspace, the pod will stay in hyperspace. Therefore, it is best used with caution for short jaunts anywhere but normal space.

  • 2  -  The EVA prep room is another mill-around place in slower times, equipped with sim-booths - basically, closet-sized holodecks.

  • 3  -  Now we come to the gem of this deck - the EVA room itself. This room has the most safety protocols, and is made out of the strongest, most entropy-proof materials apart from the ship's hull. Not seen directly, but behind the half-wall to the right, there is a platform that can be lowered to ground level outside, with a built in ladder system. This EVA room can function at the bottom of deep oceans, in the most toxic atmospheres known, in total vacuum, in near-absolute zero temperatures, and even in Venusian environments that trash many other otherwise versatile and capable ships and probes. The EVA suits used with this room are known as Hellsuits, and for good and obvious reasons.

  • 4  - The actual ladder component. The mesh platform allows easier exit of the ladder, but can be retracted.

And finally, here's a cutaway illustration to get a good idea of the ship's interior-to-exterior layout and proportions. Note, the seats in the EVA room are absent because I added them after this cutaway was taken.

And that's all, hope you enjoyed looking at this! Lemme know what you think.

QXR MANIAC MAGEE

Hi y'all! So after a long and unintended pause, I've decided to try and break out of this builder's block with a little rover project, the QXR (Quinops eXodus Rover) Maniac Magee, named after the Jerry Spinelli protagonist. This rover is basically your go-to expedition vehicle assuming you're not carrying immense loads or traveling on landless worlds. That being said, let's take a look around:

Seen here are the roosterpit, two shuttlepods (lifeboats in an emergency), the EVA airlock door (red stripe), and the suspension (white rods). Yet to be added are retractable stairs for the airlocks, comm and sensory equipment, lights, and flag.

A view of the roosterpit and comms room, as well as the computer system (bottom right). Yet to be added are railings to grab in case of drunk pilots or uncooperative terrain. And finally:

Everything else that might make having a long journey rover worth it: A lab (top left and bottom right), bunkers for four (or eight if you're willing to sleep on top of each other or the floor) on the upper right, and the inside view of the EVA locks (bottom left). Yet to be added are the railings for aforementioned conditions, interior flag, and EVA suits.

And that's my new rover. What might still be added not mentioned here?

=QMOIS DRAGONFLY=

For approximately three years, I have been planning, building, and perfecting my greatest work to date, the QMOIS Dragonfly. This topic is the ship's official showcase, and will feature various different areas of the ship as they reach completion. The topic will be continually updated as more parts become complete and display-worthy. On completion, this ship will be used in an RP context and as a mobile headquarters for various QMOI operations, along with other activities.

=INDEX=

=EXTERIOR=

The main external view of the ship. Since the last renovation and refinement, the ship has been equipped with trim manipulators, ailerons, and an articulating tail to improve stability in flight. The head segment was modified to change airflow, allowing for the implementation of an "aft bulge" to make more room for a larger hangar and other accommodations, as well as a garden area seen in the middle.
The ship's windows and general design scheme were also redone to make the overall ship look more like my original vision.

=DECK 2F - GENERAL LIVING=

An area where long-term residents of the ship can come to get a load off, train in melee combat, go shopping, or have breakfast or dinner.

Vundrav Bar

One of multiple bars throughout the ship, this particular bar is the largest and oldest (the first of them to be built) aboard the ship. The bar features "homemade" (synthesized) exotic beverages of many varieties, a vintage Microblock jukebox, television with shipboard and broadcast channels, and even rainbow lights. At night (or if the ship is otherwise in darkness), the blinds may be lowered, the lights put on, the jukebox playing, and a great party venue is created and a good time is had. But it's definitely not a recommendation for hurricanes...

Morning Lounge

In this little corner of the ship, the place to be after leaving your stateroom may be found and breakfast sought. Various foods such as beef stew, salad, rolls, muffins, crackers, and waffles, as well as various drinks and sauces, may be found at the breakfast bar. The lounge also has two of its own televisions for separate viewing the two shipboard channels; one can have his or her pick between the news & events channel or the entertainment channel. One can also work on coursework or study or just relax and read a book in a quiet little nook of the ship.

Martial Arts

In this somewhat unlikely spot aboard the ship is the martial arts ward. Here shipgoers may learn everything from swordplay, melee combat, or general gymnastics such as exercises and games. The ward is both recreational and practical; self defense for emergency situations are taught, whilst those interested in the eastern martial arts may also come to learn. Like the bar, the martial arts ward is not a recommended place to be while the ship is flying through large storms.

Muwezo Diner

The main eatery for long term residents of the ship. Here is the best place to satisfy appetites with a generously large variety of foods catering to every life choice advocate, synthesized but nearly indistinguishable from the real thing, along with user-operated stoves. Also has coffee.

General Goods

The ship's long-term resident gift shop. For long journey people, a place to prepare for departure; for permanent residents; basically the mall. This area has everything from cosmetics to computer components to paints. Also has its own cosmetics booths (not to be mistaken for toilets).

=DECK 2F - MEDICAL WARD=

Every once in a while, the Dragonfly may experience an unusually powerful hurricane, an enemy encounter, a deadly virus, or the dark side of human nature. The Medical Ward is the ship's hospital, housing treatment areas minor to major cases, an isochamber for extreme cases requiring quarantine, and a ward for minor problems as well as routine operations such as dentistry and cosmetic surgery.
This room in particular is the entry, for check-ins and check-outs, as well as security. Equipped with a MicroBlock Icecube desktop computer, which also serves as an override for the Isochamber in case of incident.

Dentistry

Cosmetic surgeries, dental operations, routine checkups, and whatnot all happen here. Accessible by appointment.

Main Area

Moderate to major cases. Special enclosed areas for long term stays. Entry to the Isochamber visible at the end of the hallway in the bottom left picture.

Medical Ward Lounge

A private area for general relaxation and refreshment for those staying long-term in the medical ward.

Isochamber

And last but not least for the Medical Ward, the Isochamber. This chamber is completely isolated from the rest of the ship, requiring its own built-in airlock entry and atmospheric and environment control system, monitored from inside by another MicroBlock Icecube computer, with a fully evented environment control program.
The isochamber has two subchambers for quarantine patients, which are fully rated for metahuman, undead, and omnimorphic lifeforms (See The Thing, John Carpenter, for reference).

=DECK 5 - DRAGONFLY ACADEMY=

The academy deck of Dragonfly houses the ship's main information and learning areas, as well as a number of community venues and social areas. The area accomodates residents, passengers, and students alike, who may browse at their leisure or enroll in an academy's group study plan, which is not entirely unlike many public school systems on Earth. Given the Dragonfly's high capacity to stay aloft for exceptionally long periods of time, a student could live on the ship from childhood to graduation without seeing the ground close up; the true airborne scholar.

Classroom

The Classroom is the Academy deck's main gathering area for learning, teaching, community, discussion, and whatnot. The area can be used to teach, to have a discussion about something, or as a clan meeting center. The classroom can be specially reserved for up to an hour's privacy by appointment, with a three days' advance warning.

Media Center

The Media Center serves as a secondary community center complete with a computerized presentation set, a private study area, a virtual library set complete with holoprojected interface synchronized with Dragonfly's AI system, and internet access by way of the ship's largest collection of MB Icecube computers.

Gymnasium

The Gymnasium, whilst being the ship's fitness center, can double in and of itself as an educational venue, where passengers and residents may learn about health and fitness. The gym also contains exercise equipment and gear, as well as a game room and a TV with three channels, one for outside ship news.

Lounge

The Academy Lounge serves as a hangout venue for recreational activities such as board games, card games, and any kind of noisy chat that the commons area seen below might not take too kindly. Eating and drinking are also permitted in here.

Commons

The academy area's commons area, where students may gather and discuss, chat, hang out, or relax. Though drinking and eating are not generally permitted, the rule is not strictly enforced.

Office Ward

The office ward is where aspiring students go to enroll in long-term initiatives and studies, and other academic groups. Here is also where reservations for the classroom for purposes of community or learning may be arranged or managed.
The area also houses a private testing ward which can also be used as a private study area for advanced
students schooling in more obscure or difficult branches of study.

Stay tuned, more pictures coming soon!

Salutations and greetings, everybody!

The picture below is that of a 12-piece portrait printwork I have recently finished. I plan for this to be a keypiece aboard an airship I am almost done remodeling, the QMOIS Dragonfly. Please note that the frame around the picture is not the final frame.

Full credits to Adobe Photoshop; I used no 3D rendering or other outside software in making this little scene.

Gallery / World Trade Center Replica - North Tower
« on: April 17, 2013, 04:38:29 AM »
WTC NORTH TOWER

Among the many works I have been slowly progressing, the art of replica has been among them. This project is a geometrically perfect, one-to-one scale replica of the North Tower of the former World Trade Center. This project was inspired by Bones4's replica of the RMS Titanic, whose replication was similarly exact, and from whom and which I have learned a lot about the art of perfect scale replication.

Below is a series of pictures I will update as the project progresses. There are many things which, due to the sheer size and scale of the North Tower and its infrastructure, cannot be fitted in its entirety; the elevators, for example. Due to limitations in the brick limit versus the sheer size of the tower, only the North Tower was able to be replicated; both Twins together would vastly exceed the count. I do plan on adding a silhouette of the South Tower during the project.

This project, like the Titanic project, is meant to emphasize the WTC as it stood, rather than its destruction. The project is dedicated as an additional tribute to the disaster, its victims, and the recovery. Accordingly, sensitivity in your replies to this topic are much appreciated.

I submit this project, also, as a contribution to the Architects of Blockland clan, whose main topic can be located -here- .

And now, the pictures:

TOP LEFT - The North Tower seen from ground level, looking up. If the South Tower were in this replica right now, it would be behind me.

TOP RIGHT - A view feet from the base, looking up. The Twins' trident base columns were, among many things, a distinct feature among modern architecture.

BOTTOM LEFT - An alternative base view, from the opposite corner, from the Top Left view.

BOTTOM RIGHT - An overview of the NT from the side, near the top. Here, the South Tower would be directly in front of it, feet from me. The grey square seen to the right is the interior deck template, complete with a center core space.

TOP LEFT - A view from the upper edge, looking straight down. Note the topmost arches.

TOP RIGHT - A corner view of the top, detailing the beveled corners, with another view of the roof arches. Yet to be added is the antenna complex on top.

BOTTOM LEFT - A view of the second sky lobby. The "stripes" of the Twins were due to the fact that the columns were broadened outwards here to bear the heavy weight of the machinery of the mechanics floor just under the sky lobby.

BOTTOM RIGHT - The interior of the North Tower lobby, at Plaza Level. Thus far completed are the ceiling segments minus their lights, the balcony minus the escalators, and part of the base of the Core column cluster.

This project is a Work In Progress. More updates will be posted as it progresses.

Additional pictures of particular angles or parts of the tower, will be posted on request.

Clan Discussion / [AoB] Architects of Blockland - 2013
« on: January 03, 2013, 01:46:49 AM »

AoB, or Architects of Blockland, is a clan dedicated to skillful building while maintaining a membership of skilled and mature
players. The clan's goal is to provide each and every player with an ideal, friendly environment in which to share their ideas
and to learn from skilled builders, and advancing their technique. Being a member does not grant you just a place in the
community, but also the opportunity to learn from fellow members and to share your ideas through both standalone and
collaborative building projects. If you are a builder seeking community, come and knock on our door, for we are waiting for you.

History

In 2006, General Jake started hosting servers to work on large builds. After a while, he noticed that a lot of the people helping him with his projects came back to help on later projects. He started to feel like these people formed a "team" of builders; a team of architects. Soon after, the idea came to organize a formal clan with these builders as the core members. The name "Architects of Blockland" was coined, neat and simple, and such AoB was born with General Jake as its' leader. Some early members who were highly influential to AoB's development were FredzoC, Polymer (AKA :Tom:), Lordy_Lord, and *Magick* Mage.

Over the years, AoB has continued to grow in mature membership and community reputation, and the AoB community has evolved tremendously overall. The clan has maintained a pleasant, skillful building environment since it began. Throughout most of its history, the clan founder, General Jake, maintained leadership. However, in 2011, Jake took a backseat position in AoB, giving Remousamavi the position of acting director. Soon after, before the 2012 year, General Jake resigned, announcing his departure from Blockland He handed full ownership of the group over to Remousamavi to lead from 2012 on.

The Architects of Blockland is, as of 2013, SEVEN years old. For each year of AoB's existence, we have created a new forum topic to bring in the new year. Along with a new topic, we often update policies, application status, and the clan roster each new year. Below is a list of all AoB sessions, and links to their respective forum threads, if they exist:

 - AoB 2006
 - AoB 2007
 - AoB 2008
 - AoB 2009
 - AoB 2010
 - AoB 2011
 - AoB 2012

Apply to AoB

AoB is currently Accepting Applications.

To apply to the Architects of Blockland, you must be a highly skilled builder. AoB is, and always has been, first and foremost, a building clan. As such, we will not accept members on the grounds that they are good at eventing, or any other aspect of Blockland. For those who join AoB, and are interested in eventing, we have an eventing branch of the clan set up with the highly original name "Architects of Blockland, Eventing" (AoBE). This is for members who are accepted to the group and also have an interest in eventing. One is not a substitute for the other, and you cannot just join AoBE.

If you wish to apply for AoB and you believe you have sufficient building skills, follow the directions below:

1] Build your Application

There are two ways you can do this:

     1) You can build your application on the official AoB server. Please Note: Applications can only be built
when the AoB Headquarters is being hosted, unless told otherwise by the clan Director. When done, ask the clan
Director or other approved grader to look at your work. If your build shows off your skill, you will proceed to the
     next step.

     2) You can build on your own server. Once you are done building, post detailed pictures in the Gallery section
of the forum. If you do this, be sure to inform the Clan Director personally, either in-game or through forum PM.
Please Note: Apps built in your own server will not be loaded onto the AoB server. No exceptions!

2] Be Interviewed

The interview is a 5-10 minute private talk with the clan Director. No preparation is necessary, and rehearsal is discouraged. You may have to wait a bit to secure
an interview time, but you also have the option to schedule an interview ahead of time by speaking with the clan Director, by forum PM, or by posting here, in the
  AoB topic.

3] Have your Application Judged

Following the interview, your application build will be formally judged. A number of clan members will inspect your build and give you a rating 1-10. On average, a
passing score is 8.5. The clan Director will always have the final say in all application judging, but this score is most commonly taken as your application result. Input
from any members present is also taken into account. If you pass this step, you become a member of rank R-1 in AoB, unless given a
different rank by the clan Director.

Ranks

The AoB ranking system consists of ranks and titles. Some ranks do not have multiple titles. All new members begin as Recruits; former members wishing to rejoin may enter Builder.
There are three possible titles to a given rank: Novel, Experienced, and Senior. The Novel title may be excluded; a Novel Builder may also be simply referred to as a Builder. An Experienced or Senior Builder, however, would invariably retain their titles. A Senior titled ranker may be promoted to the Novel title of the next rank; a Senior Builder will become a Novel Architect.

A rank or title promotion is gained by demonstration of trustworthiness, loyalty, high building and/or eventing skills, and orderly, civilized conduct; ranks and titles do not apply to building skills alone. It should also be noted that it is more difficult to attain a change in rank than it is to attain a change in rank title.
  • Recruit
         No rank titles
Recruits are, simply put, new members. This rank has not yet learned many of the ways of
AoB, or has not yet "earned their stripes", so to say. All who are initiated into AoB for the first time will start with Recruit.

  • Builder
Builder/Novel Builder,   Experienced Builder,   Senior Builder
Builders are members who have been in the clan long enough to prove that they aren't going to be inactive, and have shown that they are sincere about being a part of AoB. Returning AoB members who have/had been with us for long time will automatically be placed here.
A Senior Builder's next rank will become Architect.

  • Architect
Architect/Novel Architect,   Experienced Architect,   Senior Architect
Architects are members who have proven themselves as elite builders. They have been in the clan
for a very long time and have shown themselves to be loyal to the group. Often times, Architect ranking
members are teachers for AoB's classes.

  • Guru
         Supplementary Title to Senior Architect
Gurus are the top ranking builders/designers of the clan. They are similar to Architects, but of a higher calibre. Those of the rank "Guru" are often looked to for temporary leadership in the absence of another clan leader. This rank is a supplement to Senior Architect; A Guru may be labeled "Senior Architect (Guru)".

  • Leader [Director, Retired Director]
         Director & Leader's rank
Leaders are the rank with the main leading and/or directing role in the clan. Members who receive this rank are hand-picked by the Clan Director, based on factors separate from those of the normal ranks. Currently, there are only two members that hold this rank. General Jake, the founder of AoB, has the rank of Retired Director, and Remousamavi is the current Director of AoB.

  • Ghost
         Ex-human AoB members.
Given if your name is *Magick* Mage, you have been with AoB for virtually its entire run, and are still with the clan spiritually.

Architects of Blockland, Eventing Division (AoBED)

AoBED is AoB's eventing & engineering branch. A minimum of Recruit rank is required to join AoBED. Together, AoBED works on advanced eventing projects, as well as set up events for builds created by AoB.

Ranking here works similar to the regular ranking system, except there are no numbered ranks in AoBED. These ranks are supplementary to AoB ranks. For example, if you were a B-3 rank, and became an AoBED member, your name in the Member list would look like this:

Username (Senior Builder), [AoBED Mechanic]

The ranks for AoBED are as follows:

  • Mechanic
Basic eventing skills. People in this rank know how to work with basic named brick events
and relays. Generally very basic VCE understanding. Skills include light switches, doors, curtains, trapdoors, emitter signals, etc.

  • Technician
Intermediate eventing skills. People in this rank can work proficiently with what they have. They can create relay-only devices with one or no named bricks or make a complex contraption. Basic to moderate knowledge of VCE events. Skills include security doors, player filters, click input based control systems, brick databases, etc.

  • Engineer
Advanced eventing skills. People in this rank are experts at all ranges of events. They do not
need named bricks, and VCE proficient Engineers do not even need many relays. Skills include computers, TDM control systems, training simulators with fully functional scoreboards, foolproof control panels, etc.

Note before applying:

  • 1] Only members of AoB may enter AoBED. A minimum of Recruit rank is required to enter AoBED. AoBED remains a supplement and division to the main AoB clan, and central membership is therefore required.
  • 2] Members of higher AoB ranks will find it easier to progress through AoBE ranks than newcomers. This is because older members are less likely to suddenly disappear and be dropped, and also because older members are more trustworthy of access to contributions in advanced eventing projects, such as security systems and economy systems.

Tags & Uniform

Members of AoB are asked to wear their clan tag at all times, in any server, especially when in the AoB server. AoB tags start with AoB. or AoB-, and
end in with rank. If you wish to represent two clans at once, you may use the second clan tag to do so.

Below is a list of acceptable clan tag formats:

  • You are a Builder, rank 2:
          AoB.Username Here.B2

  • You are a Guru, Rank 1:
          AoB-Username Here-G1

  • You wish to represent both AoB and Clan XXXX:
          AoB.Username HereXXXX

Clan uniforms are mandatory when attending an event or ceremony, and are generally preferred at all times when in the AoB server, although not required. Members are also asked to wear
their uniform when working on clan projects, and when otherwise representing AoB outside of the server. It is recommended that you have your uniform saved as a favorite in the avatar editor.

Please follow these guidelines when donning your AoB uniform:

  • Your hat should be the same shape as the one seen to the left, and colored to match your rank.
  • Your face can be any decal you choose, and your skin tone should be a color of human flesh.
  • Shoulder pads must always be worn. Recruits wear shoulder pads with a single bar, Builders wear shoulder pads with two bars, Architects and Gurus wear shoulder pads with three bars, and Leaders wear shoulder pads with a Star. These should also be colored to match your rank.
  • Your torso (Uniform Shirt) can be any shade of Black or Gray, and you must wear either the suit pictured to the left or the Pilot's Jacket. Other colors are sometimes accepted. Please speak to a clan Leader for details. Gloves are optional. You may choose any shape torso and arms you like.
  • Your pants and shoes can also be any shade of black or gray you desire. Other colors are sometimes accepted. Please speak to a clan leader for details.

Blacklist

The Blacklist consists of those who were permanently banned from AoB for various reasons. If you see your name here and do not understand why, you may PM the clan Director to inquire about it. Names listed in Black are people who have been blacklisted. Names listed in Gray are people who have appealed their blacklist status and are on watch. Names listed in White are people who have been removed from the blacklist, though their names will remain here for reference.

Clan Discussion / [AoB] Architects of Blockland - 2012
« on: February 12, 2012, 05:29:46 PM »

AoB, or Architects of Blockland, is a clan dedicated to skillful building while maintaining a membership of skilled and mature players. The clan's goal is to provide each and every player with an ideal, friendly environment in which to share their ideas and to learn from skilled builders, and advancing their technique. Being a member does not grant you just a place in the community, but also the opportunity to learn from fellow members and to share your ideas through both standalone and collaborative building projects. If you are a builder seeking community, come and knock on our door, for we are waiting for you.

History

A long, long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, a man named General Jake hosted servers to work on large builds. After a while, Jake noticed that a lot of the people helping him with his projects came back to help on later projects. He started to feel like these people formed a team of sorts. Here the idea spawned: A clan of architects. The name "Architects of Blockland" seemed like a good one, neat and simple. And so it grew from there.

Over the years, AoB has continued to grow in mature membership and community reputation, and the AoB community has evolved tremendously. The clan has maintained a pleasant, skillful building environment since it began. Throughout most of its history, the clan founder, General Jake, has maintained leadership. In 2011, Jake took a backseat position in AoB, giving Remousamavi the position of acting director.

The Architects of Blockland are, as of AoB 2012, six years old. Below is a list of past AoB sessions:

 - AoB 2006
 - AoB 2007
 - AoB 2008
 - AoB 2009
 - AoB 2010
 - AoB 2011

Application

AoB is currently Accepting All Applications.

To apply for AoB, you must be able to build skillfully, and have at least a basic knowledge of events. AoB is first and foremost a building clan. We do have an eventing branch, which you can read about below. But for those who come to the AoB server asking something like "kan I join? I dunt build g00d but im kewl at events," (which is a quote from a Blockhead, FYI,) this is why we have the application process.

If you wish to apply for AoB and you believe you have sufficient building skills, follow the directions below.

Build your App

There are two ways you can do this:

First, you can build your app on the AoB server. About half of the time the server will be hosting the Headquarters build, during which you can build your in-server app.

Secondly, you can build on your own server. After you are done building the app, post some pictures in the Gallery section of the forum, and let Remousamavi know. Note that apps built in your own server may not be loaded to the AoB server. No exceptions.

Interview

Ask Remousamavi to look at it. If it shows potential, you will proceed to the next step, the interview. If it is one of those spam builds, such as a tower of 1x1x5 bricks or a Rainbow FX "Club," the app will be denied.

The interview is a 5-10 minute private talk with Remousamavi. No preparation is needed, and rehearsal is discouraged, but you may have to wait a bit to secure an interview time. You may schedule an interview ahead of time by PM or by posting on the AoB topic.

Judgement

Following the interview, your app will be judged. Remousamavi will have the final say, but input from existing members will be taken into account. If you pass judgement, you become a member, R-1, unless you are told otherwise by Remousamavi.

Ranks

All new members start at R-1. Ranks are given to members for various achievements such as quality building,

Recruit [R 1 - 2]

Recruits are new members. All new members start here.

Builder [R 1 - 4]

Builders are people who have been in the clan for a while, and have proven that they aren't going to be inactive and lose their place soon. Note that returning AoB members who've been with us for a while will automatically be placed here.

Architect [R 1 - 3]

Architects are people who have proven themselves as builders. Like the actual definition, Architects can recreate existing buildings and landscapes or create new ones of their own. Architects have a very high building quality.

Guru [R 1 - 2]

Gurus are the top notch builders/designers of the clan. They are mostly like Architects, but of higher calibre. They are also the least noobish, and most trustworthy of temporary leadership if needed.

Leaders [Director, Retired Director]

Leaders have a founding, leading, and/or directing role in the clan. These ranks are given by director's choice, based on factors different from those of normal ranks. Asking for Leader rank will, in fact, make you less likely to get it.

(Remousamavi is the current Director of AoB; General Jake, the founder, is a Retired Director.)

Members

Below is a list of all of AoB's current members and their ranks. The list is divided into sections based on rank, and each section is sorted in alphabetical order. AoB currently has 12 out of 20 members.

General Jake (Retired Director)
Remousamavi (Director)
*Magick* Mage (Guru 1)
Black_Ninja (Builder 1)

AoB Meeting: Mandatory
Current time: Friday April 6th, starting at 6:00 PM, Eastern Standard Time.

LINKS

- AoB Print Pack

Tags & Uniform

Tags are usually optional. If you are in AoB, you do not have to wear them unless you are at an AoB event or ceremony. The AoB tags start with AoB. and end in your rank. If you wish to represent two clans at once, you may use the second tag to do so.

Below is a list of examples of clan tags you might use:

  • You are a Builder, rank 2:
AoB.Username Here.B2

  • You are a Guru, Rank 1:
AoB.Username Here.G1

  • You wish to represent both AoB and Clan XXXX:
AoB.Username HereXXXX

  • You wish to represent AoB as a second clan:
XXXXUsername Here.AoB

Uniforms are mandatory for events and ceremonies, and are generally more required than clan tags. If you are on the AoB server working with the clan, you should wear it. It is recommended that you have it as a favorite in your avatar editor.

The AoB uniform consists of the following:

  • All parts of the avatar above that are white are actually colored based on rank.

  • The uniform must have the hat and shoulderpads seen above.

  • Gloves, shoes, and shirt may be any shade of black or grey. Ask Remousamavi about other colors.

  • Your chest decal must be the Pilot Uniform seen in the avatar above.

  • You may choose your own face and torso shape. If you wish to have a different color head, ask Remousamavi about specifics.

AoBE

AoBE, or Architects of Blockland: Eventing, is AoB's eventing division. If you are already a member of AoB, and you are good at eventing, you might consider applying for AoBE as well. If so, just ask Remousamavi.

Ranking in AoBE works similar to regular AoB. Ranks in AoBE are supplementary to AoB ranks. For example, if you were a Builder, and became an AoBE member, your name in the Member list would look like this:

Username (Builder 1), AoBE Technician

The ranks for AoBE are as follows:

Technician (T 1 - 2)

Basic eventing skills. People in this rank know how to work with basic named brick events and relays. Generally very basic VCE understanding. Skills include light switches, doors, curtains, trapdoors, emitter signals, etc.

Mechanic (M 1 - 2)

Intermediate eventing skills. People in this rank can work proficiently with what they have. They can create relay-only devices with one or no named bricks or make a complex contraption. Basic to moderate knowledge of VCE events. Skills include security doors, player filters, click input based control systems, brick databases, etc.

Engineer (E)

Advanced eventing skills. People in this rank are experts at all ranges of events. They do not need named bricks, and VCE proficient Engineers do not even need many relays. Skills include computers, TDM control systems, training simulators with fully functional scoreboards, foolproof control panels, etc.

Note before applying:

1: Only members of AoB may enter AoBE. You may apply right after you get in, perhaps with the same app you used to get into AoB to start with if it has sufficient events. Events are, of course, otherwise not judged.

2: Members of higher rank will find it easier to progress through AoBE ranks than newcomers. This is because older members are less likely to suddenly disappear and be dropped. Newer, lower ranking members such as Recruits may still reach Engineer, they simply must prove that they are trustworthy enough.

Blacklist

The Blacklist consists of those who were permanently banned from AoB for various reasons. If you see your name here and do not understand why, you may PM Remousamavi about it. Names listed in black are people who have been blacklisted. Names listed in grey are people who have temporarily appealed their blacklist status and are on watch. Names listed in white are people who have been removed from the list, though their names will remain here.

REMOUSAMAVI'S CLASSROOM DESIGN

About a week ago I began work on a medium sized headquarters. This headquarters had everything I always tend to put in them, only this time I made the classroom larger. In this topic, I'll start by showing you the classroom. The classroom has two entrances leading into a central room. This central room leads into the classroom, the elevator, the bathrooms, the main entrance lobby, and two visitor's guest rooms.

ENTERING THE CLASSROOM

I took this one just as the door was closing. As you can see there's a little table to the left of the entrance. The other door is on the left of that. The table is used for picking up assignments and things on your way to your seat. Plus the view is great, though all you see is the endless expanse of Blockland Ocean.

TAKING YOUR SEAT

A view from sitting in one of the student's seats. The paper is blank... well, I could not find anything with print on it, I was too busy looking for the camera. From anywhere in the room you have a good view of the podium, but you might not want to sit anywhere in the front but in the middle if you get a teacher who stays at the podium all the time.

THE TEACHER'S VIEW

Here we see what it looks like for the teacher, at least when he or she is at the podium and not walking around the room deep in lecture; this is his/her primary spot. Here you can also see both doors on either side of the little table. The highlights above them are aqua, meaning access is allowed by anyone and the door will open when you press the button.

CORNER VIEW

Here we see the room from an angle. Here you can get a better feel for where everything is. At the time this was taken, the camera had some issues, so I just stepped up onto the upper ledge and took the picture myself. The security camera is there though.

And that concludes the classroom tour. Thank you for taking the time to look at it. If you would like to see other parts of the building, just say so. The other parts include living quarters, many, many offices, studios, and a restaurant. There are also more central rooms with different floor insignias on them, and hallways connecting the offices. The exterior view is nothing much, I just wanted it to look like an ordinary building, nothing fancy until you enter.

General Discussion / How do I save far away bricks?
« on: March 13, 2010, 01:56:49 PM »
It seems that whenever I try to save vastly distanced builds, it will only save the bricks I'm presently at, even if I've seen all the faraway ones. Is there a way to combat this?

REMOUSAMAVI'S EMBASSY OFFICE BUILDING

Hello, all. This is my first post that isn't a reply to anything, and I'm already starting rather big. These images below are pictures of my latest build, Remousamavi's Embassy Office building. It took me about a week to complete it, and eventually topped it out with over 70,000 bricks. This is my AoB app.

Here is the exterior:

It took me a while to decide on exactly how I'd arrange the exterior modules. At first I was going for two windowed areas per side, but that detracted from interior layout and made the building look too small. It was already a good enough size to begin with, so I went ahead and made it one window-area per side.

Here are some additional exterior views:

And that's the basics for outside. It looks out-of-place in the middle of a desert plain with no road leading to it, but the interior is a different story.

Here is the lobby:

Beyond the lobby are the classrooms, the vault, and elevators to the offices and minisuites, and the two conference rooms.

First on the list, the classrooms:

Something I've been improving a lot lately was my ability to make elevators that took you directly to the floor corresponding to the specific button. So here is a picture of the elevator door, open:

This elevator leads up to the suites, conference rooms, and of course the offices.
Here I will start with the offices.

One will come off the elevator and then enter this room with his credentials. He/she will pick his/her office and use the same credentials. This is mainly for easy access for visitors and inspectors.

There are two sizes of office. Here is the smaller size:

And now two different pictures of the larger size:

Next are the minisuites:

The bedroom looking inward toward the hallway and the currently empty painting:

The window, looking onto a bleak desertscape:

And last, but hopefully not least, the Conference Room:

And that concludes the tour for now. I will be looking for requests for pictures taken at certain angles, or in different places, or even both.

A word for judgement: If this app doesn't pass, please don't hesitate to say so. I did put a lot of work in it, but the effort was entirely aimed as an app. If it does fail, I would like some feedback on where I went wrong so that I can spend some more time improving my skills in that area.
