Faces, Decals, Prints / ModTer 8-Bit Expansion Pack
« on: May 31, 2020, 07:04:30 PM »
6 years ago I created a NES-inspired print pack that became somewhat popular.  I come to you now with 107 new prints designed to be compatible with the first 38.  Suitable for a wide range of themes.

IMPORTANT:

These prints will work on their own, but they'll be missing the original 38 if you don't download and enable Part 1.  Get that here:

The unexpectedly popular Ultimate Pirate forgetaround was hosted exactly twice previously, and now it's back!  Explore, find treasure, collect gems, fight other players, or just throw each other off the lighthouse.  It's up to you!

There are several useful commands unique to this server.  Type /commands in-game to see a full list of them.

Games / Chatters the Squirrel - World 1 demo out now!
« on: March 12, 2018, 08:05:51 PM »
I've been kind of a stranger around BLF lately, but some of you may remember me posting development screenshots and gifs of this game, and random stuff of this character.  The public demo is finally out, so I figured this game could use its own thread.

Chatters the Squirrel is a platform game for Windows inspired by the great platformers of the 16-bit era.  All the design, programming, art, and music is by me.  The demo contains the entire first world, with 10 levels and two boss fights.

Suggestions & Requests / Any way to block /boombox and/or /stereo?
« on: November 20, 2016, 10:50:02 AM »
Here's the thing.  I really hate these add-ons.  Normally if I don't want to hear music loops on a server, I just turn "Play Music" off, but that option has no effect on music played by the boombox or stereo mods.  Is there any possible way to force music from these add-ons to never play?

Alternatively, is there a way to clear all music from my cache.db?  This (and then never redownloading music) would effectively accomplish what I want, but I don't know how I'd do it without simply deleting the entire file.

« on: September 19, 2016, 01:10:04 AM »
Ahoy, ye landlubbers!  Two years ago, I made a fine pack o' Pirate Music in honor of International Talk Like A Pirate Day.  Some o' you might remember some from me Ultimate Pirate forgetaround server.  Now I give ye a new 'un!  Thar be only 13 loops this time, and one o' them ain't even new.  Aye, I really scraped the bottom o' the ol' rum barrel for piratey music.  I even wrote four of 'em meself!  Still, I hope ye'll enjoy what thar be.  Just like last time, all are me own handiwork.

Music / Chenchis - Me Cacharon Mis Papás

The infamous Mexican rap song that uses the same stock music source as After School Special.  Now looped for Blockland in 30 seconds of glorious awfulness.

Forum Games / Give Indiana Joe a face
« on: July 04, 2016, 07:13:29 PM »
This suspiciously Indiana Jones-like character appeared in one episode of The Super Mario Bros. Super Show.  For whatever reasons, be it lazy or low-budget animation, he has no face.  Let's give him one, eh?

Off Topic / In honor of "dog" (image-heavy)
« on: April 02, 2016, 09:17:36 AM »
I am making this thread to honor "dog", the greatest and dankest meme to ever grace our beloved forums.

From what I can gather, it all started with this post by Nymph in my Chatters joke game thread.

It seems that pretty soon espio was inspired, and went on a reply spree.

I also made this as a reply to the original Chatters thread, but given the post timing, it doesn't seem to have been espio's original inspiration.

Eventually Pie Crust and Jshotgun got in on the action with expanded dong image size.

And of course, once I found out about the posts, I couldn't resist.

Bless you, dog.  Long and fluffy may your tail grow.

Games / Why are momentum-based platformers so rare these days?
« on: January 05, 2016, 05:16:10 AM »
Back in the day, when platform games were the most common kind of game, it seemed like there was a pretty even split.  Control was either binary (you start and stop instantly, and stop moving when you let go of the direction mid-air), or momentum-based (you accelerate to a maximum speed, and keep going if you let go in mid air).  Nowadays, with a resurgence of indie retro-style platformers, it seems like they're almost exclusively binary.  Shantae, Shovel Knight (who accelerates a little bit, but still stops dead if you let go in mid-air), and the majority of Metroidvania style games are all examples.

So, whatever happened to the momentum-based platformer?  These days it seems like only platforming veterans like Mario and Sonic get momentum-based platforming.  This is a shame, as it's got to be my favorite style of 2D game.  I know a game is great when simply running and jumping around is fun and satisfying, but I just don't see it anymore.

Off Topic / It is so cold outside my car door is frozen open.
« on: December 31, 2015, 08:38:43 AM »
Yes, open.  OPEN.  My car's driver-side window is frozen shut, and in an attempt to thaw it out I somehow ended up freezing the latch over.  Now the window still won't open and the door won't close.  And now I am stuck at home without delicious breakfast.
