What is Spotify?

Spotify is a new way to enjoy music. Simply download and install, before you know it you’ll be singing along to the genre, artist or song of your choice. With Spotify you are never far away from the song you want.

There are no restrictions in terms of what you can listen to or when. Forget about the hassle of waiting for files to download and fill up your hard drive before you get round to organising them. Spotify is instant, fun and simple.

Because music is social, Spotify allows you to share songs and playlists with friends, and even work together on collaborative playlists, Friday afternoon in the office might never be the same again! We’re music lovers like everyone else.

Video of it in action:  http://vimeo.com/1939731
There's also a video of it on their site.

It's pretty much the fastest, most light-weight and prettiest music player that I've ever used.  When it starts a track, it starts as quick as a local song (on my computer) would play.  No buffering.  I'm blown away.  I recommend you try it.

Use a UK proxy to access www.spotify.com's sign-up or have a UK friend sign you up.

They also seem to be cracking down on people signing in when not appearing to be from UK, find a UK proxy and set it in Spotify's preferences ("Edit>Preferences...").  Using an HTTP proxy at the moment without and problems.

Off Topic / Slowly buying parts for my first PC build :)
« on: November 23, 2008, 06:59:19 PM »
So I decided that I would really like to build my own PC since the one I'm using at the moment is starting to date.  I've been making a list of the parts to get for the past few weeks and figure that by the time I get enough saved up the prices will drop a bit more.  I just made my first buys today :)

Ordered:

Saving for:

Total:$759.88
Remaining: $679.94

I know that the CPU will go down in price very soon since the i7 s just came out, so I'm looking forward to that pricey cut.  Any comments?  Suggestions?  Maybe building a PC of your own soon? :)

UPDATE: The price on the CPU went down $10 today for a while for the "pre-black friday sale".  I hope it drops more soon :)  The price of the case I bought went up $10 today, too.. Yay me buying it yesterday.

Games / Fuel
« on: August 19, 2008, 06:26:32 PM »

Debut trailer: http://www.gametrailers.com/player/38527.html

Features:
  • 14,000 km2 of environment (that's over 8,600 miles2)
  • Open-world, drive-anywhere
  • Dynamic, extreme weather that effects your races such as tornadoes, sand storms, and thunderstorms

I personally can't wait to see more of this game.  It looks loving amazing.  I mean, can you imagine how long it would take to drive all the way around the map?  Burnout Paradise and GTA IV have pretty large maps, but this one puts those to shame.

I just jumped trying to break some bones and got this crazy glitch.  Rate it if you can, too, as I need the achievement for 20 ratings (:

GamerTag is Spaceomega if you ever want to some games online.

Here's another gnarly crash, as well.  Ratings appreciated (:

Off Topic / Anyone hear the new Slipknot single (preview)?
« on: June 16, 2008, 04:15:03 PM »
A track, "All Hope is Gone," was released as a preview for their new album that is supposedly coming out in September.

I liked it, especially the drums.  What are your thoughts on the song? :)

My school district holds a talent show(-off) every year, as do most from what I have seen, and this next year (08-09) I was thinking about entering it.

What I'd really like to do is sing AND play this song on guitar:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p4cJv6s_Yjw
"Between the Bars" by Elliot Smith

There are a few problems, though:
  • I've never sang in front of an audience before
  • I've never sang on a microphone before
  • I've never played guitar before
  • I have a bit of stage fright

Now, I think the third one of those is probably the most significant of the four.  Do you believe this song would be too difficult to learn for a beginner?  I could probably get a guitar and start practicing/learning with my friend (who's decent).  It doesn't look too difficult from this video.

This will be my third (and final!) year in high school, so I wanted to do something that is a bit different from what I normally do.  The show itself is actually after school one of the days, and from what I hear a few hundred people show up.  Last year only a very few people from my school even went (2-5), so that would ease the tension on me a little, I suppose.. Just invite the people I like.

Anyways, what do you think:  is the song a particularly difficult one for a beginner?  Any tips about the microphone?  Stage-fright?

Suggestions & Requests / Upload to ShareBee
« on: May 24, 2008, 05:01:40 PM »
Not trying to advertise, just trying to be a bit more helpful to our modders.

www.sharebee.com

Upload once and it'll upload to four different sites for you:  RapidShare, Badongo, zSHARE and Megaupload.  So, not only is it easier to use for the uploader, but you get four mirrors with one upload which makes it easier and more reliable for the downloaders.

Hope my suggestion is noticed and used :)

« on: May 05, 2008, 07:11:13 PM »
I've tried and I've tried - followed the guide on portforward, Badspot's guide, and a person's help.  Nothing.  I just can't get this sucker to forward.

Anyone here have this and can help me out?  Thanks.

Suggestions & Requests / Vehicle Creation (Not "in-game")
« on: November 21, 2007, 04:56:56 PM »
I would just like to say something about vehicle creation within Blockland: I don't think it's how you would picture it to be, if it existed to make your vehicles without the use of other programs.

I think that if you were to be able to make vehicles without actually opening up programs like Milkshape that it would be in a GUI, much like the avatar creation menu.  There'd be a set of wheels, wings, bodies, and other parts to choose from, as well as some basic forms for speed (with limits), acceleration, etc.  The bodies would restrict how many wheels you could put on, as well as maybe the size of the wheel (classified inside a script about the pieces), where the wheels would be, and other things like this.  As you build these things up you might see a 3D preview (much like the avatar creation menu) of what your creation would look like.

I think being able to have the community add onto this would be nice as well.  The creator(s) would just have to provide a few basic pieces, then allow the users to have add-ons for the rest.  All they'd have to provide is something like a wheel and a very basic script.

But as for building it in-game along side your giant houses and such?  Probably not going to happen.  I would like to see the vehicle-creation menu like I described though, and I do think that it would be possible to do.  Maybe not easy, but possible.

Any input on this?  Is it a bit more plausible than what most people hope for?

EDIT:  Trader is pointing out some flaws like the datablock limit.

Suggestions & Requests / 'Grass' brick print
« on: August 18, 2007, 02:12:19 PM »
On my newest build I need some sort of nice grass decal to make the normal green look a bit better.  Think anyone can help me out, here?

Screenshot to show where it would go.

Thanks.
