AoT General / AoT: The storyline
« on: July 12, 2006, 11:12:52 AM »
Here's a little sotryline I wrote up in about a half hour because I was bored.
I felt like giving you all a small taste of some of the stories I can cook up. Which I hope you will remember when I release my own game by the end of the year.

So here it is: The AoT story.

Far away in a world much like our own. In a new land, rich and abundant with resources, beautiful flora, and hidden magic. There was a time when the people lived properously, and lived their lives to the fullest. The people there were satisfied with their simple life, and as it went on, they continued to make advancements in the realm of magic.

But one day, whilst working alone, late at night in the fields. One man stumbled upon an ancient text. Half buried, but recently unearthed. Out of curiosity, he proceeded to pull the text from the ground, and begun to examine it while reading it aloud. It read:

Bow mortals, to the powers of Malice, Terror, Rage, and Death.
The power to crumble the mountains and drain the oceans.
The power to call forth the monsters of the abyss.
The power to make thy enemies fall at your feet.
And the power to take away life.

Heed the warning thou shalt recieve.
If the powers are unleashed.
Forever-

The scroll was unreadable past this point. But little did this man realize he had read the tablet out loud, the man then dashed away in fear, dropping the tablet to the ground and racing off to protect his loved ones (From what he did not know).

As he drew close to the capital city, Starboard Town, he knew that something was wrong.
Screams and desperate pleas rang across the hillside. And the wind began to howl furiously as if angry at the earth itself.

The man was afraid to even look over the hill to see what was taking place...what was happening to his family! But there was no turning back now. He unsheathed his sword, and began sprinting towards the town.

And then he saw them. Hundreds upon hundreds of beasts, monsters, trolls, orcs, spirits, and demons, seemingly sprouting from the ground like perverted patches of weeds.
The sky grew dark, and the sun was put out as the people of starboard were dragged from their homes by menacing figures and forced to bow before them as they were decapitated one by one.

By now, his own home was completely surrounded by these embodiments of darkness. But
if there was even the slimmest chance that his family could be saved, he had to take it.
Barrelling through the throng of orcs, he dashed to the door of his home.
Only to be stopped, by what looked to be an orc, set ablaze and setting it's sights on him.

There was no time to deal with this creature and still save his wife and children. But he had to try. In a blaze of anger and desperation, he charged towards the beast, and the closer he got, the more intense the heat of it's flame. His eyes barely held open, he swung at the creature with a mighty swing fueled partly by courage and partly by adrenaline.

THWACK! The beast was decapitated on the spot. A lucky blow for the young warrior, but not a victory. For his valiant efforts had attracted the attention of most of the monsters mulling about around him. One, two, three deformed, orcs caked in mold approached him at once.

The intense gravity of the situation dawned on him...right before the screams of his family burst out in a chorus of surrender. He sat there, surrounded. No hope of survival. No hope that these foul beasts would allow his life partner to live. No hope to see the light of the sun one more time.

But still...he fought. Into the early hours of the day after, he continued fighting. Tears streamed down his face, and fueled his body with rage!  Swing after swing, his enemies fell at his feet. But as swiftly as one orc was destroyed, two more emerged from the earth and begun spreading their terror to the masses of Starboard.

By now, he was probably the only warrior standing. Every hour he had been made to endure the dying pleas, and final screams of his friends, and neighbors. Every hour he was made to understand more fully, the immense evil that was approaching. And yet he could not bring himself to stop fighting.

And then...silence. All at once, every orc, every gremlin, every creature, monster, demon, and entity...stopped. And then a new sound. One so forboding, and so demented, that many of the creatures around him fell at their feet and writhed in agony.
The sound of footsteps. So dark, and so heavy, that they seemed to shake the earth without so much as making a leaf stir our of place on a tree.

A dark figure on the horizon, slowly made his way...in the direction of the warrior.
And kept coming, and coming, until it was inevitable that he would soon be towering over the young man. And he stopped, inches in front of him. And looked down at him with eyes that burned like fire, and yet seemed to give off a rush of air colder than ice.

"Who are you, warrior." he said in a dark voice.
"Why do you still stand before my army of Malice?"
Never before had this man come face to face with true eveil such as this...but he felt required to give an answer. "I do not wish to die." he said with the fear obvious in his strained voice.

And then, the creature began to laugh. And kept laughing, until the mans ears began to bleed from the sheer intensity of the sound.
"You do not wish to die?" he said.
"Then so be it. From this day forward, none who are killed in battle, will ever die."
And with a wave of his hand, a great wave of dark magic escaped into the air. Enchanting the continent with agrim and twisted barrier against death. Keeping all souls locked in the mortal world for all eternity.

And to the mans terror, the dark one turned back to him and uttered the words that would seal his fate.
"And now warrior...you will be the last to perish on this island, along with the rest of your fellow man. For the dark magic has yet to take effect." He turned to face the throng of minions behind him. "From this day forward man shall never be born again! And all men living now, shall die!"

And with those final words, he retreated to his lair, deep under the earth. And one thousand screams all at once, echoed across the land. This was the beginning of a new age.
The Age of Time. Only the women remained as servants to the dark lords. But now 100 years later, the darkness has weakened. Just enough to give the new warriors of the land the ability to fight back.

And far away, buried beneath the earth, is a seal. A seal once mistaken for a meer tablet.
A seal that was read aloud, and unleashed the evil upon the land.
And at the end of this tablet, the broken text reads:

Forever shall darkness reign over the land.
