Off Topic / Headphones Debacle
« on: March 06, 2017, 01:17:38 AM »
for the longest time the way ive listened to music or youtube videos on my computer has either been through a set of 4 altec lansing speakers (with sub) that are pretty nice, or through headphones, but here's the catch. The ones ive been using until recently are a pair of early 1970s david reimer rystyl hs 300d headphones, the problem, a large style jack. Wont fit into my laptop. Next to my laptop there's a cassette deck that I occasionaly record mixtapes on, so to listen to music one day, I had the idea to run an RCA to aux cable from the REC input of the tape deck to my laptop (which is how I record tapes as well) and then put a blank cassette in the deck, turn the deck on REC Pause, (record preview mode for volume and quality check where it lets audio through) and plug the headphones into the large style phone jack. to control the volume ive used the input level control on the tape deck.

anyway, the reason im making this topic is because my brother just gave me his roomates dated but functional retired Logitech g430 headset and I thought "Problem Solved!"

I was wrong, first of all, my laptop has only 3 usb ports, one of which is already my mouse, the second is taken up by a webcam (also my current gaming mic) the third alternates between an SD card reader and my driving force pro wheel for racing games. I want a seamless system here, id rather not unplug and replug things for different purposes for example if I wanted to play a game on my speakers (my normal way) id have to unplug the headset and replug the webcam because you cant use the headset mic without the headset. same applies for video calls obviously. I could simply plug the green side of the headset into the audio port, but that would leave the pink end flapping about

the other issue is that even on full volume the headset isn't nearly as loud as id like for music listening, so I thought to myself, hmm, If I ran an aux to rca to my tape deck, then plugged the green end into the phone jack using an adapter on rec pause I could solve my usb port problem and turn the tape deck into a pre-amp thus making the headset louder and leaving me with my webcam mic.

Im right back where I started, the only diffence is that the pink side of the headset is dangling down off the tape deck and the damn cord for the headset is ten feet long and I can see myself running it over with my chair and tbh, the old headphones sound just as good

TLDR I had a really complicated system and new equipment didn't make it any less complicated

Off Topic / I accidentally triggered my professor
« on: February 14, 2017, 09:09:59 PM »
My English professor since January has always worn a cloth/scarf/garment on her head, she is a 55 year old white woman with a german sounding last name, I considered she might be a muslim, but I wasn't sure, I considered that maybe she was a cancer survivor and used it to cover her baldness from chemo, or maybe it was just personal preference or a cover for natural hair loss, so anyway after class I dun forgeted up. I asked her exactly this
"Hey I was just curious, what is the purpose of the rag you always wear?"
at this point I realized I forgeted up, but I waited for a response like I hadn't said it and hoped she'd understand, I probably could've used any word other than rag and I would've been fine. long story short she didn't understand
"Who wears a rag on their head that's ridiculous." she said.
"Sorry, I misspoke."
"Well sorry, there are things going on in this country right now that make words extremely important, you cant just be offensive like that, going around quoting hate media."
" I stuttered, trying to come up with a reply, but I finally said
"Im sorry, is it a religious thing?"
"Yes it is, and I would've been glad to have a conversation with you about it had you been more considerate."
"I totally respect that, I was simply curious, I thought that perhaps you were a cancer survivor or otherwise, sorry again for the mix up."
"We can talk later, I have other things to do."

this was also in front of two girls in the class that have had her before and are close friends with her but they didn't say anything. I guess come Thursday Im going to have to patch that up If I want an A in the class lol

still, even though that was the wrong word, I think a sane person would answer my question something like this
"I'd rather you call it something else, but I wear this because of my religious beliefs."
I would've apologized and it would've been peachy, but instead she stood there for two minutes and treated me as If I'd just called her a raghead, college life. Also, the women's issues now cult was giving out free condoms today and they had a sign that said "Roses are Red, Violets are blue, and I'd like to deconstruct the patriarchy with you."

Off Topic / The Loud House topic
« on: December 23, 2016, 07:18:44 PM »

since its Christmas break, i've had little to do with my afternoons, so I was cruising the on demand and remembered this show, id never seen it before. ive watched a good part of the episodes and I have to say its very well done, I really have no complaints with the show and really loved some of the episodes. Its also pretty accurate to real life, my friend hunter grew up in a crappy house with 4 sisters and I cant help comparing this show to him all the time. only diffrences were Lincoln's dad isn't a deadbeat drunk and his sisters are actually interesting

anyway guys opinions?

Off Topic / I'm up to my third Annoying Orange sign
« on: October 15, 2016, 10:46:43 AM »
People these days have no respect, I live on a very busy four lane street and since early September I've had Annoying Orange signs in my lawn, one lasted a month and then got stolen, then I went back to the GOP and got two more just incase it happened again and would you look at that, I get up this morning and my second sign was gone after just a week out at the street. I don't care how people feel about this election, but however that may be it doesn't give you a right to steal signs, If you're that butthurt about Annoying Orange's far superior policies than go do something productive about it, steal my sign and there will be another one within a business day. Its a labor of love, Hillary cant win this election, in my mind it will be the end of America as we know it, her supreme court judge selection would tilt the courts against the second amendment and towards censorship of free speech and a ton of special snowflake policies and white privilege laws. Her lies will create distrust in the American people, and the media will continue to bombard us with pro leftist propaganda. This is America's last chance to stand up to this corrupt power structure, you can see with your own eyes how afraid of Annoying Orange those in power are by the amount of constant smears and lies told of him in the media with complete disregard for Hillary's many crimes, acts of treason, and betrayals of the American people for her own personal financial gain as well as her mindless followers stripping lawns of Annoying Orange signs and thereby limiting free speech and expression. The polls are rigged, the election probably will be too, my vote and so many others will count for nothing, but a sign in my lawn and a loud voice of reason is all I can do to save my country from this absolute devil of a democrat party and its media cronies.

Off Topic / My brother had a confrontation with a drunk driver
« on: July 04, 2016, 11:47:37 PM »
my bro works really late at Arby's some nights, tonight he got out at midnight... on July 4.... so he's coming home on a two lane road  that runs through a neighborhood and a truck in the oncoming lane starts veering over. So he slams on the brakes and cuts into a guys front lawn where he stopped inches from the drunk guys stuffty durango. Then the guy gets out and starts yelling slurred cuss words. The guys truck was blocking my brothers car in so he got out to tell him to move it. Then the guy says "you loving richardwad, you were in my lane man, get out of the way."
My bro tries to explain it, but the guy isn't hearing any of it. In his infinite wisdom he started stepping up to my brother and swung with all he had. My brother easily dodged it and he fell flat on the asphalt on his face. Then my brother just spit on him, got in his car and backed out and left.

when he got here I told him, man we should probably go check that the guy isn't dead laying there, so we went back and the truck was gone, the guy just kept loving going when he was that loving drunk. I was going to call the cops but he was probably long gone. If he would've hit my brother or his car that he just bought last week he would've been on for serious loving jail time, hopefully next time he wont be so lucky

General Discussion / Skyscraper Rush
« on: May 29, 2016, 07:40:26 PM »
In this action packed server, a terrorist organization has taken hold of a small corporate office, and a special forces unit has been deployed by air (they parachute in) to eliminate the threat and destroy several key communication boxes throughout the building and its premises. I've hosted this a few times already last year, but the events got erased somehow. Still, prompted by the public release of Gravity Cat's formerly private Government Vs Rebels pack, I redid the events and spruced up the build a little and we're back at it

Modification Help / Warble's 1988 Camry Wagon (near complete model)
« on: November 29, 2015, 11:44:29 PM »
im back and better than ever now that thanksgiving break has given me a chance to get the hang of blender A LOT.
ive decided to make my own car, a base model 1988 camry wagon, rather than my previous tercel hopes

the reason?

I actually found good blueprints of a camry wagon

anyway the only thing the model really needs is cleanup (im looking at you front end) and some non placeholder tires and rims here are pics

the other thing, I have an independent study now dedicated to learning 3d modeling programs because I want to be a car designer
I might be able to turn out a decent amount of mods in the coming months if I stick with it

edit, I made an imgur account just for you

Off Topic / Extremely non helpful but pleasant luck
« on: October 20, 2015, 10:37:58 PM »
So I had Marching band tonight and near the end I started singing The rickroll song, "Never gonna give you up" and got it stuck in my head. I don't remember why, so I got in my car to go home and there was a cassette of party music songs in the deck, shortly after we pulled out of the lot the song that was on ended and I decided that i'd rather listen to Bob Seger, my bro ejected the tape during a commercial on our local classic hits station, and as he was reaching for the Bob Seger tape the jingle played and there was "Never gonna give you up". He was reaching for the deck and I was like NO LEAVE IT ON!!!!!, he was shocked by my sudden enthusiasm for Rick Astley. I couldn't believe my ears!

and also last week I was playing Risk with some friends, and I was losing and getting tired of playing so I was laying on my back and waiting for my turn or to get attacked, my bro handed me the single die, as I only had one army on that country, still laying on my back I just threw the die at the wall about three feet to my right, it bounced off and missed the carpet around the board, landed right on top of the board and spun on a corner, my friends started whooping and hollering and I had enough time to sit up and see it spin for another 10 seconds, I bet I couldn't spin a die like that if I tried, it slowed down and then fell, it was a 6, we all had a reaction similar to those MLG videos for about 30 seconds such a dice throw couldn't even happen on dude perfect

share your extremely lucky situations that in no way affected the rest of your day but still left you happy, you know what I mean

Blogland:
So my school just got a giant new building and the orchestra, and band got new rooms, because of this the drafting/engineering room is in the old choir room and the choir is in the old band room. Anyway in the old choir room there was a whole audio setup left over, the teacher didnt transfer it over to his new room because it consisted of two tape decks, a Nakamichi reciever and a Cd player. So im in engineering drafting class and i see it all sitting there not being used by the drafting teacher. So i ask "Hey can I have all that stuff if you guys dont need it?" I wouldnt've asked if it was more modern stuff but tape decks is my kinda stuff if you havent read that in other threads of mine. It took two days of negotiating with the school tech office and we compromised on me not getting that really nice Nakamichi reciever (it was probably worth 200$). but today i went down to the room and ripped out all the equipment and wiring and threw it in my camry, i got home and realized that both tape decks dont work, the motors dont even turn. they probably would still work if they werent controlled electronically by buttons that dont actually do anything, just tell the internal computer what to tell the machine to do. the older ones are more simple and thereby more reliable. Anyway the Cd player works and the best part isnt that, I got a mess of wires with all sorts of routing boxes attached and mic line cables

here are pics of all the stuff (not my pics)

denon dn720r

priced on ebay in working order at 105-135 USD

denon dn770r

priced on ebay in working order at 65-100 USD

denon dn600f

Priced on ebay in working order at 75-125 USD

the routing boxes are also suprisingly pricey

radio design labs Stm 1 pre amp (I got three of them!)

priced on ebay between 50 and 100 dollars each!

audio technica at8801 power supply (I got two of them!)

priced between 50 and 75 USD each

TLDR:

Warble takes a ton of obsolete equipment off his school and makes an easy 300$

Games / Test drive Eve of Destruction (Driven to Destruction)
« on: September 07, 2015, 12:28:37 AM »

Ive had a copy of this game since 2006 ish its hard to remember. it broke in 2010 after 4 years of good service I then tried to buy other copies of the game in subsequent years and none of them worked when I brought them home, good thing I only spent 3$ total on buying them, this game from mainstream stores is expensive for an 11 year old ps2 game
https://www.google.com/search?q=test+drive+eod&num=100&rls=com.microsoft:en-US:IE-Address&source=lnms&tbm=shop&sa=X&ved=0CAgQ_AUoAmoVChMIyfi68JXkxwIVQRw-Ch2IQQD0&biw=1077&bih=719
eventually my want for other things made me nearly forget about ever buying it again until I took out my ps2 and started playing nfs pro street again earlier this month, one of my friends came over and we had a long chat about what ps2 games I still have and EOD came up, he told me about using toothpaste as a disc cleaner. I was skeptical at first but it sure did work, I found my whole childhood still exactly as I remember it, its not one of those games that you pick up again 5 years later and say "those graphics are far worse than I remember them". I was even more surprised to find my old saved career waiting for me, those designs I spray painted were immature at best. I'm not surprised that it's still a great game despite its age, and nothing like it has been produced with such attention to detail in both cars and gamemodes since. Not to mention the one of a kind spray paint system. they truly don't make games that are as simple anymore either

Anyway, did any of you have this game? it seems to be a rarer game based on the ps2 price
