A new piece of legislature in California would make it illegal for companies that have games, particularly single player games, with online requirements to take their servers permanently offline for games people have played to use. If they do so, they have to provide 60 days notice, and offer a way to continue to play the game in a singleplayer offline mode.
The Stop Killing Games movement is a recent effort to put an end to exploitative business practices by game studios that produce online only game that people pay for, but then shut down those games, effectively stealing from the customers.
